"Very poor gameplay outweighs good graphics"
This game was a huge disappointment.

The packaging boasts "exceptional puzzles." They were exceptional -- exeptionally bad. And the puzzles were sparsely distributed among a game mainly consisting of painstakingly scanning the floors, walls, and ceilings of countless rooms in search of sometimes pixel-sized inventory items which you rarely even know you need. For example, there is one case where, I kid you not, you must find a hairpin on the stairs (because of course that's where you'd look for a hairpin) right after (and I couldn't make this up) an explosion has caused debris to fall everywhere on the floor. Where should the hairpin be used? To pick a lock? To poke a hole in something? Something else that follows the rules of logic? Of course not! You have to use it on a mirror to (in a manner never quite explained) extract a letter that was somehow behind the mirror.

At best, it's an inventory game, rather than a puzzle or adventure game, and the inventory use is arbitrary and frustrating, rather than logical and rewarding. If you want puzzles, get 11th Hour; if you want inventory get Monkey Island. This game's only redeeming quality was the good graphics and a catchy Victorian/Egyptian soundtrack. The premise of Sherlock Holmes poking around Ancient Egyptian artifacts in a mansion sounds so promising. Unfortunately, Holmes' comments and the boring and convoluted plot miss that potential as well. I sympathize with the animators and recording artists who had to work on this terribly designed game.

"Will not install properly"
- I had some of the same problems with the Viva Media version. On an XP pro machine (everything up-to-date, plenty of memory & disk space, nothing! else running to interfere) every install was successful, but the game would never load and run. Always the same message "please insert the cd-rom to continue". The game could not find the cd-rom in the unit from which it had been "successfully" installed, nor from any other unit. The experience was exactly the same on a Win98se machine.
- Response from tech-support: Are you sure that you followed all the right procedures? Did you read all the documentation that came with the game? Have you checked our web site for our tips and hints? Yes, Yes and Yes. Never heard anything more from them.
- Funny thing though, the original version of the same game by The Adventure Company installed without problems.

"How Dumb Can I Get?"
I'm stuck on Level ONE! I can't get out of these rooms and up the stairs! I can't figure out the order of the seals! I think I would really appreciate this game if I MOVE AHEAD! The graphics are wonderful.

"One of the BEST mummy games out there!!!"
This game is short with 5 levels, but very longs too because each level will take you a long time to complete.

This game if full of amazing graphics, and scary suprises that will just blow you away.

Also, it's a great mystery game that when you get into it, it'll suck you in and leave you thirsty for more information.

I'll say there are a few hard puzzles that may keep you back, but try your best, or use the internet and you'll get through it.

"More like "Where is Waldo" kinda game..."
Good thing the name "Sherlock Holmes" isn't copy-righted. This game is an insult to Sherlock Homles. I've read all Sherlock Homles novels and I've watched all TV series. The voice-over in this game is nothing like how Holmes would sound. Homles should sound sharp, logical, and with an obvervational skill beyond anything. The guy in the game sounds like he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and has been injected with a mind-bending substance that reduced his intellect to about 5th grade level. Also the game play isn't even remotely close to either an adventure or mystery game. If there's something to pick up or looked at, the cursor will change to a finger or magnifying glass. That's it, just search the entire room for large to tiny objects, collect them, and then use them at some other locations. If the game is titled "Retardo's Tale of Mummy Hunting" I might give it one more star.
