"learning computer"
I purchase Mavis Beacon teaches typing for my grandaughter as she was so behind in school in the computer class. It seems to be helping her. And then I thought it would help my husband to learn the computer too.

"Good but not Perfect"
I thought that in my thirties, after years of using 4-fingers to type, I would never really be able to learn the proper form for touch typing. This is a terrific program; I went from 7 words per minute to 40 words in 1 week. The problem with the program is that once you get to the "advanced" level it has a limited number of passages which it keeps repeating. Also the program does not include a series of tips for common weaknesses (using the pinkie, for example). It is very good at getting beginner's to become medicore typists but not so good at getting a mediocre typist to the next level. In my case become mediocre was a big leap, esp in just 7 days, so I give it 4 stars.

This typing program is the best I have ever used. I have been trying many typing games to learn how to type and this is the only one that has worked. I am now 11 and can type with ease. I recommend this for all ages.

"Has Adware, but a decent tutorial", I broke from my golden rule of buying software from a store when I purchased this program which I have a few complaints about.
1:) Netzero adware. How a commercial costing $20 (in the store) puts adware on your computer without your permission is beyond me.
2:) Dated visuals. Vista has to temporarily downgrade it's visuals in order to accommodate its games and videos. Also, the font size is far too small and the overall look is from 1995 where CD rom games first started
3:) Proceeds too fast from letter to letter. I actually downloaded a free typing software in order to review certain troublesome letters.

That being said it will help you to type better (I'm typing fluently with both hands now thanks to this and other software I have found on the internet and I'm still working on my speed) and is decent overall, but I would not recommend it to you unless you don't care about the three complaints listed


"Mavis Beacon Typing 17", We homeschool, and most of the "learning is fun" type computer programs we have purchased in the past either fell short of any real learning aspect or taught the material well, but wasn't too fun. However, my 10-yr-old little girl really liked Mavis Beacon. It was fun and really turns the lessons into fun games. Usually, we have to tell her how long to practice on her guitar, or other school activity, but she will spend 30 minutes several times a week practicing her typing and we don't have to remind her. I would definitely recommend this program.

"Terrific for kids!", My 11 year old daughter asked for this software after her typing teacher recommended it for practice at home. (Private school) She and my 8 year old son are both loving it. They are learning without even realizing it. Fun games make them stick with it much longer than ordinary lessons would.

"A Great Resourse", We bought this program to teach our children about typing correctly. It has been a huge asset to our home school curriculum.

"Mavis Should Be Ashamed!", What a joke! This product is more about NetZero than typing. I bought this program so my daughter could practice typing and 10-key but all we got was NetZero and it does not ask your permission to put NetZero on your computer. Such a sad day for Mavis Beacon. My suggestion is try a free online tutor first. If you buy this product all I can say is good luck.

"Great product", I have always enjoyed the Mavis Bacon Typing tutors. This version is excellent and we are really enjoying it.
