"What's that whooshing air sound?"
I bought one of these and tested it out compared to the audio-in jack on my PowerMac.

The audio-in gets a lot cleaner results. With the iMic you hear a whooshing air sound coming through with the music, not so with the audio-in jack.

SO if you don't have audio-in on your laptop like with my iBook then it's ok but definitely inferior audio capture quality compared to a line input.

"Good Insurance"
The iMic works just as advertised. The plastic construction is a little on the chintzy side, but this is great insurance against a major problem.
The audio jacks on Mac laptops are easily damaged, especially with repeated use. To fix the jacks you have to replace a circuit board (the logic board in my MacBook.). That's expensive.
I'd much rather replace a $35 iMic down the road instead of a logic board.

"Griffin iMic/USB Audio Interface"
I bought my iMic to transfer Records to CD.I wanted to use it with my Laptop. They say it doesn't work with Windows Vista. I have no problem recording with Nero 8. I can't get it to work as a line out device(Windows Vista). This may be due to Vista or my Notebook's Sound card? But since I save to the hard drive and burn a CD this has not been a problem. You can also save to a USB Flash or External Drive to work around this problem with Vista.

"Good product"
It hooked my Technics phonograph to my CP for copying my old records unto CDs along with the Cakewalk program to clean them up. Great product.

"Griffin iMic/USB Audio Interface"
Product works as advertised. Great way to convert any analog signal coming out of your turntable/stereo receiver into digital files. The only problem I have noticed is a tendency to generate a static signal after extended recording sessions.I needed to experiment with various line out options from my receiver until I found one that worked without static/interference. The other work around I have found is to Quit and Restart their free software application Final Vinyl after each record. This may well be a problem with the software and other more sophisticated programs are available. I am sure that someone more knowledgeable about these devices and applications would not have any problem at all getting this to work right out of the box.

"It worked well with my Apple G4", I used this because I had a cassette deck that still worked and an Apple G4 and wanted to preserve some cassette tapes in my iTunes and iPod. These were cassettes that were old enough to be ready to break. My first thought was some sort of USB cassette deck, but that seemed unnecessary since I had a cassette deck that worked. I also had Sound Studio on my Apple which has helped me when transferring vinyl, for which I've used my USB turntable, but that's another story.
So, this little product arrived and it worked exactly as I wanted. I plugged in the RCA cords I already had (they don't come with this product) from the back of my cassette deck to the little receptors, set the thing on "line" instead of "mic" and plugged the USB into the computer. Then I played the cassette and recorded using Sound Studio on the computer. The end result actually sounded a bit clearer than the cassette, and of course it's preserved digitally on my computer instead of on these cassette tapes that were about to break, and had some recordings I made back in high school (the 1980's for me...)
The product comes with some recording software that I can't comment on because I already had Sound Studio downloaded on my computer. I imagine the software they provide would work, but can't say that's the case from experience. I can say that Sound Studio has worked pretty well for me since it's helped me transfer old vinyl l.p.s and cassettes. So this Griffin device worked well with my Sony cassette deck and my Apple computer. It was out of the box and working in minutes. If you need to transfer some cassettes cheaply to an Apple computer, this should do the job. How it works with PC's I can't say, since I have an Apple. Of course once I've made a Sound Studio file I save it on my desktop, then drag that as an AIFF into iTunes and convert that to a smaller file, but that's all pretty simple. The important thing is getting the cassette recorded in digital form, and this device made it possible for me to do that.

"Easy to use", Bought this as a present for my father, who wanted to transfer cassettes to his computer, and it has since provided him with hours of fun. The included Final Vinyl software worked very well too - better than Audacity.

"Works As Advertised", This device makes it very convenient to switch between a Mac's internal speaker's to an outside sound system. Rather than plugging and unplugging an audio-out connector, one simply selects the choice in the System Preferences menu. The audio-out connector on my Mac had a failure due to the numerous making and breaking of connections of the plug. The Apple Store Genius called to my attention this product which solved the problem affordably and was actually what I wanted in the first place.

"Does what it says it does and does it easily. I'd buy it again", Terrific product -- I use it to connect a cassette player to my iMac computer. I play the cassette and (after setting up in the Sound window of System Preferences) capture the incoming sound using Final Vinyl. I then tweak the piece with Audacity and save it in the format preferred (often merely MP3 since these are generally spoken word tapes).
Simple and to the point for translating cassettes to digital.

"Simple, easy, and quite useful.", Honestly, for simple recording/monitoring tasks, this interface works well. I would recommend it to any homebound composer, hobbyist, or anyone who just needs the extra ports on their Mac. Final Vinyl is a pretty neat little program too. Works about like Pyro, but better for LP copying. All in all, it's definitely worth the price.

"Griffib iMic", I found the iMic unusable for my intended purpose. Their advertising says it may be used with any microphone. I found that it would not work with the most common type of dynamic microphone. After several e-mail messages back and forth they advised that it would work with a relatively rare high impedance dynamic microphone.

"Great Product for Recording", This product is typically used on a Mac, but I would like to chime in and say that it also works beautifully on a PC. It allows the user to record from line sources without any of the noises associated with an on board sound card.

It connects easily to the USB port on a PC, and is automatically detected (in Windows XP--it's not compatible with Vista). It provides a super high fidelity sound system in a portable package.

The software packaged with my iMic was for Mac only, but I downloaded Accoustica's Spin It Again and I have been making quality digital recordings of my old LP's and cassettes ever since.

Another nicety about this wonderful, super-fi device, is the quality of sound it provides for PLAYBACK. I use it instead of the on-board sound to play our MP3 library, and, coupled with the Sonic Impact T-amp, have better sound that our living room setup.

The only downside to this product is the lack of Vista compatibility. Hopefully they address that; it would be a shame for such an excellent product to disappear.

"Just the right fit if this interface is what you need.", There can't be many who are trying to bridge the analog and digital audio worlds through a USB port but if you're one of those people then this product could do the trick for you. Not only does it go from analog to digital but it has two levels: line and mic. They have different amplification levels to support typical inputs. I was surprised at how small, how stylish, and how effective this product is. Works like a charm. Recommended.

"Works just as intended.", My internal microphone jacks on my iMac had gone static for the second time and as the computer is quite old, I did not want to spend money fixing it again. A friend told me about this product as an inexpensive alternative. The price here was almost 25% off of SRP, I selected the free shipping and it showed up faster than expected, so that was good, too.

And most importantly, I can now run the sound from my computer to my stereo again... out the iMic and through the headphone jack to RCA adapter cord I've been using for years.

It also has a line-in jack that I assume works just fine, but I don't have a need to use it.

"Saved me!", I have a lot of audio cassettes with jazz from my dad I wanted to digitize. The problem is that I have a laptop, so there is no way to connect the deck to the computer's soundcard. This device saved my day! And the price is great, too.
