"Toughskin is TOUGH" The toughskin has saved my iPod so many times it isn't funny. If you are tough on your stuff as I am, get one of these. It fits over your iPod like a glove and protects it from water and dropping. I LOVE this product and highly recommend it.
"Great iPod cover" This is exactly what I wanted. It's great protection for the ipod and I like that the screen cover doesn't actually touch the ipod screen - it hovers slightly above it. It may make docking a problem for those who like to dock their ipods because this cover doesn't actually open - you have to insert the ipod through the screen opening like putting on a glove. But for protection it's wonderful.
"Must have iPod protection/carrier" I was given this as a Christmas present last year. I had wanted an iPod and the giver was so unfamiliar with technical items that he asked the seller what a must-have accessory for the gift would be. I'm glad this happened since I was unfamiliar with this product. I was expecting an iPod Nano and figured it would be safe in my pocket or fanny pack. Given my affinity for practical ways of protecting/carrying things like the aluminum case with belt clip for my beloved Palm Pilot. I have found only one 'con' among the many 'pro' items. There are also a couple nit-picky items which have been reviewed as negative which I consider as neutrals.
The Good: Nice sturdy rubber which aesthetically matches the style of my iPod. Whether the color matches or contrasts, it still looks like it could have been designed by Apple to be used with the iPod during the design process. The grooves not only lessen the bulk but act as a functional method for finger grip purchase to reduce slippage. The cutouts are plenty large enough for the features to be accessed. The USB sync cable fits nicely, the control disk access is the same size, the viewscreen square is roughly the same size and there is a removable clear plastic cover which has a raised rubber edge to protect the display, the hold/lock slide has enough of an access for even large fingers to actuate without allowing for accidental de/activation, and the headphone jack is well-sized for typical headphones of most designs. My main reason for writing this review is the durability and protection factor. I dropped my iPod recently. I'm almost 6 feet tall and I was holding it about chest level. I had my fanny pack in my hand and I opened the side door of my van. The iPod slipped out of my hand and bounced under my van. I heard at least one more 'thud' before I knelt to retrieve it and saw it rolling almost to the far side. I turned it back on and plugged it into my cassette adapter. It still worked just fine (such could not be said for my nerves at the time)! The belt clip allows it to freely swing to protect from random (not so) near misses and it also makes for a nice ad hoc stand when watching podcasts/videos.
The Bad: The hole for the headphone plug is too small for the Apple A-V adapter cable. In order to be able to watch my subscribed Podcasts, I had to take scissors and flip the hole inside out so that I could enlarge the hole from the inside. To remove the protector from the clip, you can press down on the button on the top of the clip. There is a piece of plastic which separates the part which holds onto the disc on the back of the protector. This piece of plastic is too fragile for my taste. Every time I took it off my belt to place in the cup holder in my van, that plastic got pressed. A couple weeks ago, after about a year of consistent use, it stopped working. This is somewhere between inconvenient and annoying.
The Nit-Picky: Anyone who owns an iPod has some form of external speaker system. Mine uses the sync port on the bottom of the iPod to connect the unit. This of course means I have to remove the iPod from the ToughSkin in order to connect it. It fits nice and snugly so it takes a firm, even hand to remove or apply it. I have noticed some scuff marks on the back from the connector, but this is entirely cosmetic. From the nicks and scuffs in the rubber, I cringe to think about the marks on the iPod if I had not been using the ToughSkin at the time!
Overall this accessory is a winner. Since I got the first one as a gift, I'll likely be buying a replacement soon. At a price which is less than 1/10 of the iPod's cost, it is a reasonable price point.
"No nonsense protection" The ToughSkin lives up to its name. I use my iPod mainly in my car, but shuttling it back and forth between computer and automobile, usually with handsfull of mail and other detritus, I've dropped my iPod before. No damage beyond a few scratches but now that it's encased inside this thing, it's safe.
Funny, it just stretches open at the window opening... stuff the ipod in, position the enclosed clear shield for the window, and it's ready to go. My iPod is black so it's good looking, in the same way the Incredible Hulk is good looking.
IF you want to stuff your iPod in your pocket, you might want to keep looking. Otherwise this thing is simple, durable, and tough.
"Simply the best protector for iPod Video" Think of this as "bulking" up the exterior of your iPod Video with a couple of layers (or 3 or 4...) of protection. For someone like me, gravity has a way of destroying the things I invest a lot of money in. But this skin keeps drops from making me spend more money. Like an earlier reviewer mentioned, it's something Batman would have on his utility belt. Only con? Doesn't make it easy to plug into a external speaker unit because access to the bottom is thicker...Getting one for 3rd gen iPod nano.

What our customer's say!
"Fits like a Glove", Best protection for your precious iPod. Screen protector also. Rubber skin keeps your iPod in place whether in your hands, on dashboard or on your desk. Larger earplug hole accommodates larger jacks too. Removable belt clip too. Worth twice the price!!!
"Speck ToughSkin Ph!l's Review", Great product, with the rebate it was free ! Not sure if the sale is still on but I'm glad I bought ? it. Sometimes I can be a klutz and I know Ipods are very susceptible to impact. This amour type case definitely will protect it from being dropped, better than those stylish clear cases. The belt clip is very secure and it has a screen protector as well as cutouts for connections and controls that fit perfect.
"Ipod Rambo Case", This thing is a little over the top but it does what it's supposed to do - protect the ipod. It has a slightly military look to it which I could do without but I am not afraid of dropping it. It may even stop a bullet for all I know. Good case but if you are looking for a slightly less intense accessory I would look elsewhere.
"Perfect for my 30G iPod", This is perfect for a 30G iPod. It keeps it clean and safe. I've had mine for over 3 years and have dropped my iPod while in the Speck's ToughSkin. Saved it everytime. I strongly recommend this product.
"iPod 60GB Video User", This is a GREAT CASE and is exactly what I was looking for. The TOUGH Case keeps the iPod protected and DOES NOT MAKE iPOD TO BIG. Comes with a nice screen protector and belt clip. The belt clip has a rubber protector inside the case to keep it from damaging or scratching the iPod. The case also keeps iPod from sliding around in the car. There are openings for the data port, sound port and hold switch. Nicely seals around the display and click wheel. AGAIN, this is a GREAT CASE!

"As close to Klutz-Proofing your ipod as youcan get", I'm a total klutz, I've dropped my ipod more times than I care to admit. I believe this case is why my ipod is still in top-notch working condition. Only issue- my boyfriend had the white/translucent version, left it in his car and the heat made it expand, so it now fits Gigantor's ipod. But so far the black one's been great!
"Does its job.... ", This Speck skin is all about bullet proofing your iPod, thats it... it does not care about being compact and so being designed slick. I have been using this for about more than a year now and it hasnt failed me. I have dropped my iPod several times, even on concrete from about around 3 ft, it still withstood the impact. The Belt Clip is THE BEST!! Once you have your iPod clipped on to your belt securely, no matter where you go, it will not fall off or anything. I have traveled to India with this, and in the crowded places, with all the pushing and everything, it still stayed strong. The build quality is excellent, but the skin around the screen is deforming. It does not fully hold the screen protector tight, so i expect that in few more years the skin will get so loose that the screen protector will fall off. The quality of plastic of the screen protector is not very good. It scratches very easily and when you are looking at images or video, the screen eats up a lot of of the clarity. The only downside to this is that the skin is the bulkiest one I have ever come across. The beltclip is also very big and fat. I hope to see improvement in making the skin more slimmer and more dense. And the screen protector, making it scratch proof and more transparent so it does not take away from the colors. Overall rating 3.8/5 Pros: Great build, what you see is what you get Cons: Bulky, screen is made of low quality plastic
"Well Engineered Great Price", This ipod case is great. Its easy to hold and it looks like something Batman carries on his utility belt. The belt clip is easily removable. And, even though I would never attach an ipod to my belt because of the sheer size, if you are a runner or someone who likes to have things on their belt or have a thing for belts and things on your belt, the clip is great. It swivels a complete 360 degrees (like a gun-slinger) and is very sturdy. The LCD cover is a little tough to manuever, but once you get it in place it is unlikely to move out of place at all.
The Speck Products Tough Skin is just what I was looking for. I waited a long time to find the right case and I'm very glad I held out almost a year, searching for the right protective covering. Of course it would have been a better idea to order it the moment I saw my co-worker show me his rather than waiting an additional week and dropping my unprotected ipod while running down a sidewalk. I will continue to keep my eye out for additional items made by Speck Products. They seem to have form and function down pat. (If your name isn't Pat I apologize.)
"Fantastic Case", I consider this case a part of my iPod. I had an old iPod, and when I get my video and bought this case with it and haven't gone a day without it in a year, and wouldn't suggest it either. I use my iPod in this case everyday, at home and in the car. Will interfere with docks. I used to sell electronics and would always show my ipod with this case to customers. Anyone who says it doesn't fit or that the screen protector doesn't work clearly has done something wrong or had received a defective case. It's thick, you don't have to worry about every little drop because of it. It's also durable. As some have said, tight pockets can be a bit of a mess since it is rubber, but if you are capable of putting it in your hand and sliding your hand into your pocket then you shouldn't have a problem : ) My suggestion, if you won't use the clip often, then pull the circle out of the case, it makes the shape much more consistent and easier to put into a pocket or sit flat on its back.
"My second one. Excellent, Excellent. ", I have had one on my Nano for two years. Now I have one for my 30GB Ipod. It has saved my Nano numerous times from complete destruction. You can drop your Ipod and not have to worry.
This should be a required purchase.
