Others say...

"Great game with a few flaws."
Titan quest is an over the head 3rd person hack and slash RPG that is really one of the first solid options since D2. This is not Diablo 3, it's not Diablo 2, or 2.5, or any other version....So why is the gameplay so similar? Diablo fans will notice a multitude of features and gameplay that scream "Diablo", but really, there aren't really any other ways of doing this kind of game right, you're bound to see the similarities.

Pros -
* Beautiful 3d engine _IF YOUR COMPUTER CAN HANDLE IT!_. Grass sways, immense amount of detail, but it looks fairly lackluster on slower machines, many non-gaming machines that are several years old won't really be able to handle it, take note of the min requirements.
* Long amount of gameplay, a friend and I have been at it quite a while and gotten through 1 chapter. (of I think a total of 3) Stack the upcoming expansion on, and you could have a game that takes you 50 hours just to get through on normal difficulty.
* Good enemies, solid gameplay. Overall it's just fun, if you like Diablo type games, and you're not expecting it to be exactly like Diablo, you'll enjoy this.
* Decent sound and music, not fantastic but I liked it enough to keep it on.
* Fun multiplayer, play with friends, it gets harder with more people, making things more challenging etc.
* It's cheap! Around $20 now, worth the investment if you like this type of game for sure.
* Different melee/caster trees allows excellent "pure" combinations i.e. caster/caster or melee/melee, but also makes for some interesting hybrid classes.

Cons-
* Lack of support/info. This game I think was fairly successful, but not like I'm used to, so there isn't an abundance of support or item databases etc.
* Fairly steep computer requirements.
* No character customization! You get to pick male or female, that's it. No features, sizes, nada.
* Quests are boring, not that I expected them to be otherwise.
* Odd graphical glitches if you turn the settings all the way down on certain video cards, honestly not too big of a deal.
* I haven't beaten the game yet, fairly low level (23) so I haven't seen all there is too offer, but the gameplay seems almost too simplistic. Bind a main attack spell/skill and use it forever... Cast support/heal spells occasionally.

Bottom line -
Titan Quest is a solid purchase for people who enjoy hack and slash rpgs, collecting cool gear, and learning a little mythology in the process ;). Worth the low price tag, and it will enjoy added content/replayability, not to mention a bigger online playerbase, when the expansion comes out first week of March, 2007.

First of all, I'm a die hard Diablo and Diablo II player. I've tried many "clones", and Titan Quest is the one that stands out first and foremost in my mind. I was never so delighted to play the hack and slash genre since Diablo as I have with Titan Quest, happily delving into this type of game with abandon. A breakdown is below:

Fun: For pure monster slaying mayhem, this game is the one. Lots of enemies on screen, spells fly, swords thunk into beasties...you will be at this for awhile.

Playability: Simple controls make this game one of the most playable games out there. Simple left click and right-clicks will keep you moving along without complicated control schemes

Graphics: Exceeding Diablo II, the graphics will cause problems on middle to lower end machines. Perhaps unplayable on lower end machines entirely.

Originality: Based on Diablo and Diablo II, not very original, but with plenty of diversity to keep you busy and enthralled.

Overall: Highly recommended for those that love hack and slash, item collecting, or just monster bashing. Those seeking a more "fulfilled" RPG/action game might want to rent or find a demo first before committing to this title.

THIS GAME IS ONE YOU CANNOT STOP PLAYING. GREAT GRAPHICS INTENSE GAME PLAY REPLAYABILITY, IN MY OPINION IF YOU ARE A ROLE PLAYING GAMER THIS OUTDOES WOW.

My kind of RPG. Lot's of hacking and slashing and I was able to finish without getting a game faq.

"Great semi-mindless entertainment"
I just started playing this game a week or two ago, and I'm totally addicted. I agree with many of the previous comments...this is clearly a Diablo II clone, but so what? I loved that game! There's enough of a difference in character development, spells, etc. to make it interesting for me to play even though it's similar gameplay.

What I like:

1) Portal system. You can go sell stuff or wrap up quests in town whenever you please without having to carry things in your inventory to cast a spell.

2) I like the maps because the areas you have not explored are black - not an uncommon feature these days I realize. But in addition to that, the areas you were in during a previous game session are gray until you run through them again. That is very helpful.

3) Spell/skill variety. I like that you can choose 2 different skill lines to master (like warfare, nature, earth, etc). Within each one are a large variety of spells to choose from & upgrade. In my opinion these choices really have a huge impact on gameplay.

4) The game is not too difficult and doesn't take much head-scratching to figure out where to go and what to do (see review title). Call me a wuss, but I really hate when boss mobs are so tough it takes you 15 tries to figure out the best strategy and get past it with a few HP left. I am probably in the last 3rd of the game right now and I've only died once. That was at the hands of one of the lower level bosses, and I was quite pleased to see when I returned to finish him off that his HP were right where I left them when I bit the dust. =)

5) Death doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. You just lose a little XP, but will never lose a level. You go back to the last 'rebirth fountain' which is kinda like a save point. Then you just trot back to where you were - the monsters don't respawn unless you quit the game.

6) Equipment does not wear out. I never liked that feature in other games...where you always had to go back to town to fix your weapons & armor.

Things I'm not so crazy about:

1) I wish there was a bank vault. Inventory space is very limited, at least for the early levels of the game. So far at level 10, 20, and 30 I've been granted an additional backpack, which is cool but I'd still rather have a bank to dump stuff in that I might want to use later.

2) Although I haven't finished the game yet, it does seem like it's going to end a little sooner than I expected. And I can't really see myself playing it again w/a new character. It would be pretty boring to go through it all again since I know nothing will change.

3) I don't care for the way heal spells work. You can't really click to target anything...which is why you have to just hold down the mouse button to continue combat (also slightly annoying). So you hit the spell button first, then click either yourself or your pet. There have been many times that this just didn't work when I tried to click on my body and there was a lot going on, so now I just automatically click on the part of the screen that shows my health/energy bars. This is in the upper left corner - I don't like having to stop fighting all the time to click on myself for a heal.

4) You have no choice in your character's appearance, you're just either male or female. Not really that big of a deal, but I'm used to it from other games. I like being able to pick my own facial features etc.

5) As another reviewer said, the dungeons are way too small. It ends up being more like a dungeon sprint than a dungeon crawl.

Overall I am happy with this game, and would definitely recommend it to anyone that doesn't require much of a challenge to stay interested. This is mindless hack n' slash, which is just what I like.
