"All the negative reviews are from years ago"
Ignore the negative reviews. If you look at all of them, you will see that they say "I played this game x number of years ago and then they changed crap and it made me all sad and bitter so now it sucks worse than anything has ever sucked." The positive reviews say "I started playing a few weeks/months ago and am having a blast.

Translation: Those that didn't like change, flame this game to get back at the company for making them sad they didn't get their way. Current, non-bitter, non-whiney, honest reviewers will tell you how the CURRENT state of the game is.

Join us. Download the free trial. It's fully unlocked now so you can play as much as you want on any planet (outside of the ToOW expansion) for 14 days. If you like it, sweet. Look me up. I"m Vyfop on the Lowca server. If you don't, PLEASE post a legitimate review detailing what you did and what you didn't like so new people can actually read a balanced group of reviews of the current game rather than this constant complaining from people who are just sad their jedi had to share the universe with other jedi.

"SWEEET!!!"
I dont care what anyone else says about this game. I have started to play the 10 day trial, and i have to say i really enjoy this game enough to actually start paying for an online game. I have played guild wars but im unsatisfied but with SW Galaxies its like im immersed in star wars. Its great try it out

"It would be good but"
Ok I loved this game at one time. I played before the combat upgrade. And Well just got back into it again. and Well as I got back in and right before I hit my highest level SOE did it again they changed it! Yeah the Jedi and bounty hunters can do new things and than guess what they changed it again. I think if SOE tried to stop being like WOW and Everquest they might have something good here. But until they stop changing game play and stop forcing people to do things they don't want to do, they are just going to keep messing up a great game. But hey even Lucas changes his movies all the time so the fan boys should be used to changes they don't like right?

"You mean there are other people on this server?"
I played this since it went live all those many moons ago, through the combat upgrades through to the NGE. I stayed longer than most vets, I only cancelled my account a couple of months ago, as I wanted to give them a chance. Well they blew it. You used to interact with others. You had to dive into a bar to fix your BF and while you were there you could interact and make friends. Well they got rid of that a while back. Eventually they sort of brought it back with entertainer buffs but not like it used to be. People got groups to together to run missions. Now until you get to the high level missions which require you to be strong most can easily be soloed. The AI which used to be good got dumb, though that was happening long before NGE otherwise I could not have soloed the Warren! Now you're lucky if you run into anyone else. The servers seem deserted. Strange ghost towns devoid of other players. They talk of making it more Star Warsy. Well this is set between Ep IV and V. Exactly how many Jedi were there then? Had SOE just fixed bugs and added content to the original or even the CU releases, I would have recommended you try this. Now it a waste of money. Remember there's a monthly charge!

"dont waste your time"
i've been playing MMOs for 10 years and i played star wars galaxies for 2 and a half of those. then the NGE came and removed everything that was interesting and unique about this game. now its just like 90% of any other MMO out there. level grind and kill loot repeat, when it used to be so much more. dont waste your time, you could have all of your hard work wiped out and rendered useless too. they completely removed 2 of my characters professions and didnt convert any of their stuff. they have no idea what they want to even do with this game anymore and they change direction everytime the wind blows. worst dev team i have ever seen in any game in my life, a real disapointment

What our customer's say!

"This is the Best MMO Ever", I played this game when it was first realeased and played for only a few months. At that time there were allot of bugs and the professions were'nt very fleshed out. I recently downloaded the trial version and found that I love this game now. I have a droid engineer and I have to say the crafting in this game is the best of any mmo. I also have a jedi that's very fun to play and the legacy quests are great. I think this game has gone through so many updates that has become one of the best MMO's out there.

"NGE, FTL. Pre-cu, FTW", Although the New Game "Enhancements" (NGE) was supposed to make the game more "balanced" and more "Star Warsy" it did neither. Back when the game was good, Jedi was an honored profession, terribly hard to get, now anyone can be a jedi from teh very start. Crafting used to be a very big part of this game, now crafters and merchants are poor because of the in-balance of loot to crafted products. If you are thinking about buying this game, I sincerely suggest you do not. If you wish to purchase this game for use with SWGEmu ([...]) than but a used one. That's all i have to say.

Regards

"A great MMORPG", The starter kit is very fun. You can create your own StarWars Character and live your own StarWars life. I don't understand why a lot of People gave this Game a bad review. The combat is okay, but good enough. The Graphice are also ok, and the Gameplay is Excellent. Getting lots of Credits and exp. takes a long time, but it is Worth it. You can choose your side in the Galactic Civil War. Be Rebels, Imperials, Smugglers, Bandits, and Black Sun Pirates. You can own your own starfighter, and the First one you get is free! You can work for Jabba The Hutt, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader himself! Join the Imperial Navy Or the Rebel Space Fleet. Fight in massive space battles, including Mon Cal Cruisers, Star Destroyers, and much, much more. You should Definitely Check this game out.

"I'm such a dork", I bought this kit JUST to get the instant travel vehicle. Been playing it over 3 years... I guess with anything, it gets old after a while. A new player would have fun with this for many months. I suppose, played in moderation, this game would be fun forever. Good graphics and nearly endless amount of things to do.

"Only one thing to say, "Instant Travel Vehicle"", That is the whole reason I bought this kit, I wanted the Instant Travel Vehicle. Honestly, this game is not that spectacular. It does have it's moments, and the very fact that you really get to explore the Star Wars Universe speaks for itself, but it can be downright tedious to play. Hence the reason I wanted the Instant Travel Vehicle, which you can only get by buying this Starter Kit, it does help to speed up your progress.

"An Example Of How They Treat Their Customers", Remember this is a monthly subscription game. And here is a recent forum post by one of the designers taking jabs at the community:

<>Roughly 80% of the people who play SWG never read these boards. We know this from our own internal metrics and it poses an interesting question. Are we talking to people who play the game or posters who play the boards?

I don't mean to imply that the people who post here don't play the game. Far from it. There are thousands of well-constructed, thoughtful, and insightful posts from people who obviously know the game very well. Just read a few lines of these gems and you'll realize that, first and foremost, these people care about the game. Their focus is the game. I think the lion's share of the profession feedback in the last couple publishes is a fantastic example of these players who post.

But, at the same time, these boards are constantly cluttered by the reverse. Posters who play. They use these forums to lash out at others, criticize wantonly, and generally feed their own egos. They regularly attack devs and moderators, clinging to past wrongs and imagined slights. They focus on themselves instead of the game. To them, the boards are the real game.

As devs, we aren't here to play the board game. We're here to play, and to make, SWG.

The upcoming chapters will see the remainder of the profession expertise systems implemented. We have a lot of work to do and the feedback from players who post is going to be invaluable. You aren't going to like every decision we make and we understand that. We have a limited resources and time to accomplish all that needs to be done. But, as I've said before, we will be here (on the boards) and we will be listening. If you're up for a focused discussion of ideas, we welcome you and you can bet you'll have our attention.

If, however, you feel the need to throw another stone, indulge a rant, whine, pick apart another poster, argue a dead point, rules lawyer, quote ancient history, or engage in any of the other classic board game moves, don't expect us to pay attention. We have better things to do.

We have some SWG to make.>>

So you may want to reconsider whther or not this is the type of customer service you want to deal with on a monthly basis

"Give it a chance", I've probebly read tons of revews saying how bad the game is or how horrible it has become since NGE, but I say, "At least give it a chance."
Right now i am playing the 10-day trial version of the game and it is fun, granted it would be funner if I had a better computer but thats not the point. If you going to let other people tell you what to do, then why do anything at all. You don't have to try it, but if you consitering the game or even looking at it and your curious about it, why not download the trial version and see if you like it.

"Star Wars Galaxies -- a n00b jumping on board", Star Wars Galaxies has so much going on for it that it can become overwhelming for a new player. The introduction now has direct interaction with four signature SW characters, which is a HUGE step up from the last version of the game where you had to play for months before you could interact with them. Many of the complicated, user-unfriendly professions are gone, replaced with an easily understandable and attainable profession set. You can actually start out as a Jedi rather than wait weeks upon weeks to maybe get there.

The graphics are okay at best. Compared to other online community games, it feels behind the times with its jerky character movement.

Though there have been improvments from the archaic profession track, the game doesn't feel intuitive. You really have to dig in there and spend a lot of time asking questions from other players. Everyone knows that doing so automatically marks you as a n00b, placing yourself out there for internet ridicule and scorn. If you care about such things, you may want to join with a friend and play together. Otherwise, don't be thin-skinned and you'll eventually find a few good players who are willing to help you out.

While this is a vast improvement, it can still use some TLC from the developers.

"Sony Online Entertainment has extremely poor quality", Sony Online Entertainment has extremely poor quality.

It is very unfortunate because I am a fan a Star Wars since I first saw the movie in the 1970's.

Sony ONline Entertainment is selling a 3 year Beta. The game is extremely unbalanced. Two Reasons Why. Firslty, There is only one profession that can succeed in Player versus Enemy and Player versus Player. That is the Jedi Profession. Secondly, no new players can ever reach the title of "Elder" Jedi. Elder Jedi have 5% better defense and 5% better offense than any new Jedi can ever reach. So to Summarazie the unbalance issue; only Jedi can PvP and PvE at the best level. They can out heal the healing class, they can run away from every class, they can go invisible and they can slow the movement of all the other classes.

The other areas of extremely poor quality are the almost complete rejection of the game dynamic changes Sony Has made. Sony tried to make a Frame Per Second Game. This means you must have the cursor over your target to use an action. But it is not it is a hybrid. Non Player Characters can shoot through walls and floors. There is no skill in evading. The other major problem is that the action specials frequently fail. For example if you try to heal. Your screen will show the action as working, but the server may not register the action. Since the server does not heal you, you end up with a timer coolddown in which you can not heal again. This famous bug has been around since Nov 15th.

The final major issue is rubberbanding. Frequently, if you are traveling you will warp back,it is repeatable. It happens in comabt when you are evading. So you will run away, and end up in the middle of the enemies.

As a Final Summary. As a New Player You can never equal and Elder Jedi. The simple command of action does not work, Movement is sporadic.

There are numerous other major problems with the game. Just do a trial download and read the forums. I 100% do not recomend a new player invest their time to be a forever second class. This failed project of Sony's will one day be studied in University of how not to manage an online game.

"The other point of view from loyal players, such as myselft.", Okay, NGE, was a bad idea. But they, pretty much redeamed themselves with these Chapter publishes they have here. Now, the pvp is hotter than ever. When Restuss became a hot pvp city, my mouth dropped. Players I hadn't seen in a while came back. Everyone is really impressed with the intensity of some of the conflicts. The expertise is also a great add on. My Jedi, Tohee on Kauri, is very powerful for a toon I created just to learn how to play the nge game. There is so much you can do in this game. It is like I live a second life online. I cannot tell you how that helps me escape after a long day at work. I am so glad that it is not just a ground game either. Being Star Wars, the Jump to Lightspeed really appeals to me since I like games like Ace Combat 5 where you can fly around and pull g forces. The npcs now are smart and able to use special abilities just like players. The Emperor's Hand, that spawns in Restuss, is no joke. No one player can beat her trying to get her lightsaber schematic, which is the best in the game. You are doing this all at the same time watching out for players of the other faction who could show up at any moment to come and kill you. Sure, there are some annoying bugs, like the broken spawn point in Restuss, with all the Stormtroopers and Urban Assault Troopers quadruple spawned on top of each other. (which is usually an instant incapacitation, followed by a player that usually dbs (death blows) you. I love this game. And I will enjoy it more the additional chapters come out giving every profession the experitise system. The next thing they have to fix, is space is too calm from a pvp stand point unless you go to deep space or kessel which is usually hard to get to unless you are close to becoming a master pilot. These are all little things that are annoying but in the end don't really hurt the game.

Thank you.

Steven Lougher
