Others say...
"another home run for Amazon" Great product with price and service to match. Contacted seller with what I thought was a problem and received almost an instantaneous reply.
"Door for CD did not open." When the product arrived I plugged it in and the door for inserting the |CD did not open. I returned the product for a refund.
"Better than expected" I was looking for the cheapest CD recorder I could find just to record weekly sermons to distribute to the homebound and elderly. I found the recorder easy to use, high quality, and it does wonders transferring my old LPs to CD.
"Good Unit - simple & bare bones, just what I wanted." I bought the TEAC CD RW880 last week. I've got it hooked up to a Kenwood KR A4040 Receiver which lacks the four extra audio jacks needed to plug the CD recorder into. I had to (temoprarily) unplug the Yamaha Dual Cassette deck so I could connect the CD recorder. I'll have to by some Y-Splitter cables so I can reconnect the cassette deck later this week.
I have some cassettes I recorded off many of the Chicago radio stations and want to transfer some to CD. The drive belt on my Pioneer PL600 Turntable died three days before I received the CD reacorder. I'm waiting to get the belts from Pioneer so I can start recording my LP's.
I recorded 2 CD's of songs off the radio. I also copied some pre-recorded CD's for use in the car. Of the 47 songs I recorded from the CD's, the CD Recorder only missed automatically inserting one track break. And I didn't even set the press the auto button.
I'm using TDK Music CD-R disc to record on. They sound and play fine in the Teac CD RW880, the Pionner PD-F506, mother's Bose Wave and my Buick. I got them from Amazon too. The unit was shipped rather fast. The corner of the box had a slight crush mark on it an there was a hole torn in the top of the box large enough to insert four fingers. There was no damage to the unit though.
It was easy to hook up. The directions were pretty straight forward. At the present I'm not using the remote control, I prefer to use the buttons on the recorder. My only complaint is the unit is black. I wish they would go back to the silver faced panels like we had in the 70's. They were much easier to read.
I wanted a simple unit. I didn't want the multi-disc player/CD recorder that Sony had to offer.
"Great unit for the money, Works great but has a few minor issues" Hi, I purchased this unit for my church to record the music/sermons weekly. The unit is very nice looking and feels sturdy and built well. The controls are easy to use and connections are very simple. Analog stereo in and out are all you need but you can also connect a digital signal to another device to record without quality loss.
The only issues I have with the unit is it defaults to the optical input and auto track division every time it is turned on. I use the analog input coming from one of the Post Fader Aux sends off the Mackie Mixer our church has. I have to change the input from Optical to Analog and then press the A-track button 4 times to Manual just to make sure it doesn't auto track on a low level signal.
It is very easy to use, we place a blank CD-R Music disk into the unit and after the above settings changes, I press record and it gets ready. When I want to start the actual recording, I press play and away it goes on track 1. To start another track, which I do for each praise team song, I just press record button again and now I am on track 2. I do this through all the songs and then when the offering comes up, I just hit pause. This ends that track and sits waiting at the next track. I then just hit play and the next track starts recording. After the sermon and the closing hyme are done, I just hit stop.
The last thing you have to do is press "finalize" and then Play and it writes the TOC (Table of Contents). Takes about 1:20 or so for a full CD-R. You must do this for the disk to play in other CD-players.
I know a lot of other reviews were unhappy with the Music disks being required. You can buy a 100 disk pack off of Amazon for $20. They are a Generic brand but I have used them for many weeks and have not had a bad one yet... (knock on wood). As another reviewer said you can just buy a pack of Music CD-RW's, copy on a PC to a cheap data CD-R and then reuse the Music CD-RW's.
Overall a nice unit. The only other complaint is the "Time" button, (which switches from counting track time to counting down total time left) is only on the remote. Not a big deal but it is the only button I use on the remote as the unit is right there next to me.
Highly recommended for any church wanting to get away from recording to cassettes.

What our customer's say!
"Weak remote control", This product burns an original CD ok. But it requires a certain type of CD (digital audio). You WILL have to read the instructions carefully, but is works pretty good. However, I was disappointed in the short range of the remote control
"Just what I was looking for!", I almost bought a lp to mp3 product to record on my computer until I seen this product on Amazon.com. This is old school and I love it! Don't bother with the computer method this is much simpler to use and it works great. Just hook it up to your receiver and start recording your lp's in no time. You have to use the analog input for lp's by pushing the input button on the front panel until analog shows up on the display and then push the auto/manual button until the manual input comes up on the dispay. First put in a blank cd-r audio disc in the recorder and wait for the blank disc shows up on the display. Then play your record and push record and wait for record pause to show up and you can set your recording level by using the level plus or minus buttons. Once you have the optimal recording level set you are ready to record. You also have to manually track each song by pushing the record button between each song so you can separate the tracks. It helps if you write down the song times on a sheet of paper so you can know when the songs will end. This way you can assure you will track each song properly without any problems. I love it and I am getting back to recording my albums like I used to when I had a cassete recorder. I highly recomend this Teac cd-r recorder and soon you will be making your own cd audio disks and loving it!
"Mostly Good", I've had the Teac CD-RW880 since July 2008. I use it to copy my many LPs onto CDs for traveling and for work. It makes good audio CDs most of the time. I've made around 50 good CDs, and had to throw away maybe 10 bad disks. I've had the following troubles:
1. Playback: On a few CDRs that have a long tracks of 15 minutes or more, a CD recorded on the TEAC will sound choppy when played on the TEAC, but fine when played on regular CD players.
2. Audio CDRs are widely available, however, audio CD-RWs, the rewritable kind are NOT. I am down to my last three TDK re-writeable audio CDs. I like using CD-RWs to make the first copy because errors can be corrected.
3. Recording from other CD players with the digital input sometimes does not work. When it doesn't work I get "REC ERROR" or "LOAD ERROR" and it stops. This could be a problem causeed by my older CD-RWs.
I like the adjustable automatic track marking feature. It picks up most track changes when I adjust it up to -30db. If I have a noisy record it works most of the time.
"Teac cd recorder", Functions EXACTLY as advertised, finalizes quickly, works equally well w/ both Fuji, and TDK RW's. Minor complaint: the digital recording volume control is difficult to fade in/out, as it graduates in steps, and is not as smooth as a rheostat type vol control would be.
"A much better and less expensive alternative", I just received my TEAC unit today and I put the return paperwork on it and sent it right back to Amazon without opening it. Nothing was wrong with the unit. I have nothing against TEAC as I own a reel-to-reel and a cassette deck and both are outstanding. I had debated this for well over a year and sure enough as soon as I ordered it I found a better alternative - one that is way less money, does not require an engineering degree nor runs through your PC's soundcard. Check it out on Amazon - "Xitel INport Deluxe". Xitel INport Deluxe [Record From Your Stereo to Your Computer] It comes with cords and everything. Check out all the reviews on Amazon and especially on Xitel's site. Sony uses Xitel products. You can even download and print the manual (I was unsure about Vista). It shows you how simple it is and the cost is 70% less than the TEAC alternative. It works as advertsied. I found it locally, but Amazon has it $10 less than retail. A Best Buy!
If you're missing equipment like a computer, the TEAC is the way to go that's not too complicated.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Excellent product for the price ", After researching local stores and prices for this item on the internet, this store provided me with exactly what I was looking for and the quality is great and price was nice. Still haven't used it to its full potential but so far the basics are great.
"One Year Owned and Not Set Up", TEAC CD-RW880 CD Recorder with Remote
I purchased the TEAC CD recorder in November, 2006, and it is still in its box - 14 months later - gathering dust. I am not a technically-minded person; therefore, when I received the TEAC CD recorder and read the enclosed instructions, I was entirely confused about how to integrate the unit into my overall stereo system. Specifically, I had the same problem that "Quickbeam" reported in his review of 7/23/07: the instructions and diagrams are useless for anyone who wants to record cassettes and LPs onto CDs. Nowhere do the instructions indicate what should be plugged in where. I have, upon occasion, taken the unit and the instructions out of the box and tried to use my logic where TEAC's instructions failed. However, over one year later, I still have not recorded one CD or LP on an electronic device that one reviewer stated was a "no-brainer" to set up. I can only recommend this to someone with a knowledge of electronics or someone who has access to a resource that can provide the set up information.
"Ahhhhh at last !", At last ! I have searched for a reasonably priced single disc no frills recorder for quite some time and I have finally found it ! I made my first disc, on the first try, no hassels, no troubles. This made a very clean copy of an LP from the 60's long out of print. (which is why I purchased this deck). The only hitch is you must use "digital audio" blank discs. You cannot use regular digital CDR (that you would normally use on a PC). That aside, this Teac made a fine copy and very easily. In other words NOT ONE ruined disc trying to figure things out. I most strongly recommend this product to anyone with a large vinyl collection or with any amount of vinyl that is long out of print and/or not available on cd. Now I can listen to Jean Luc Ponty's "Sunday Walk" anywhere, even in my car ! To top it off, this TEAC is not only a fine cd recorder but also a very nice player as well, (with headphone jack and headphone level control) and at this price, all I have to say is....Buy this Product!
"Easy To Set Up, Easier To Use", If you're looking to upgrade your old vinyl collection to CDR, this machine is a must.
Set up and use instructions are extremely clear, and the results are excellent.
Generally speaking, I am not greatest when it comes to electronic gadgets, but this machine is truly "idiot proof" and I highly recommend it.
"This did the job for a fraction of the price.", I needed something to record my practice sessions since no one has tape recorders anywhere we are forced to record on CD's. This thing works fabulous. I recorded 11 tracks today and they sound excellent you've just got to remember to buy the CD's with "Digital Audio" on them otherwise you won't record anything.
I recommend this or you can spen 500 - 1000.00 and try to find happiness.
