"The way to protect your computer.", I recommend Norton to anyone out there who wants to have peace of mind when surfing the net today.

"Norton works for me", After using Norton antivirus for several years on multiple computers with no problems and the 2006 version ever since it came out, also with no problems, I thought it would be interesting to see what the state of the art was in antivirus software so I did some research on the Internet. I don't consider my computers slow like some people complain about, I just wanted to see what was out there. Generally, Norton gets decent reviews on most web sites but Kaspersky was often rated higher so I thought I would try it since my Norton subscription was expiring in a few days anyway. I ordered Kaspersky version 6.0 from Amazon for $50 with a $50 rebate and I thought it doesn't get any better than that. I uninstalled Norton and after installing Kaspersky, my computer continuously restarted. The manual tells what to do in such an event but their solution didn't work. I called their tech support and spent two hours on the phone trying to correct the problem. I downloaded and ran the Norton uninstaller, I downloaded and ran the Kaspersky uninstaller, I downloaded and installed Kaspersky version 7.0. We tried everything that the tech could think of, same problem. I asked him if this was a common problem and he said yes even though the manual says it is rare. It was late in the day and I was tired from the effort so I asked the tech if we could continue the next day and he said he would call me at 8 a.m. the next morning. Well, I've been around awhile and I doubted that he would call, and he didn't. After reviewing everything I had read about antivirus software and considering my experience with Norton, I downloaded and installed Norton antivirus 2008. It was easy and it's working perfectly. I'm sure that Kaspersky is excellent software if it works for you, but it didn't work for me and I'm not interested in going to all the effort it would require to try to make it work. I can count on one hand the number of times I have needed tech support for hardware or software so the fact that Norton charges for tech support is not important to me since I've never needed it anyway. I may try a different program someday, something like Nod 32 if they fix their interface, but for now I'm going to go by the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

"Forget about Windows Restore", What a disappointment over version 2005. After installing NAV 2006, my Windows Restore function ceased to work. I uninstalled the NAV 2006 and my Windows Restore is back to normal. Furthermore, the spyware and adware blocker do not work either. I routinely find spyware on my computer by using spybot so I guess NAV 2006 failed to pick them up.
What more can I say.

"Not what I expected", I purchased Norton AV 2006 along with my laptop, because the vendor at circuit city was recommending that I should buy it, so I went along and bought it and right now I'm not sure what to think of it. It's been doing it's job, in fact it has already blocked many threats, but I've already had problems with the software twice. The first problem started when I would turn on the computer, and the program would take a long time to load until it would just say that the program had an error, so I clicked on the link that took me to the symantec website to give me my options. It told me to auto-fix it and I did, and everything went back to normal, that was until around 2 weeks later when Norton tried scanning my computer, and said it couldn't scan my computer because I hadn't agreed on their EULA agreement. WTF? So again I had to click on the friggin link and it told me that my product was damaged and the best way to fix it was to download the Norton removal tool to uninstall Norton and then re-install it again, and so I did, and now it's working perfectly fine, but any moment now I'm waiting for it to have another f-up. I bought this so it could keep on the look out for my computer, not the other way around.

"Norton AntiVirus 2006 [Old Version]", Norton AntiVirus 2006 [Old Version]- I purchased the program from the lower cost used section of the Amazon product listing section. The only difference between the one I received and a new one was the outer packaging carton. No problem after installation. Much lower cost.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Stay away....", Norton AV has been good to me for many years, but this 2006 version is a piece of....

Issue #1: Could not install/reinstall/uninstall when NAV 2003 was installed. Had to manually edit the registry

Issue #2: Bios batery went out and clock was reset. This forced product to re activate, and now after getting a new battery and updating the time, NAV says I have exceeded my # of activations... Oh and to fix it, you must call a 1-900 #.....

Bye bye NAV...

"Sloooow as molasses in the middle of winter!", Product works, but slowed pc down to a crawl after software was installed. If you're not running a Cray supercomputer with gobs of memory, I would recommend looking for another brand of Antivirus software. Very disappointing, as I have always used Norton products in the past....

"Overpowering AntiVirus", This Antivirus software will first tease you with installation permissions errors that baffel tech support and then go on to convince you that you need a CPU upgrade. The product does function as Antivirus software..... I gave up on using my machine as its was primarilly busy checking for virus issues days after I completed installation and updates.

"Resource Intensive / Updates Problematic", After installing this product on my system, it has negatively affected my PC's performance. The new version seems to devour a lot more resources than the previous version. However, I do appreciate that spyware scans are included in the new version.

In addition, I have had a variety of problems with LiveUpdate. The problems require the user to perform extensive system modifications, including changes to the registry. That is not a sign of a robust software product.

I chose this product because of the favorable reviews I read about it and am wondering why the problems I have seen were not experienced or noted by the reviewers.

"Norton AntiVirus and Amazon work for Me!", I have purchased Norton AntiVirus from Amazon for the last 3 years. I DO NOT purchase from Symantec where it would actually cost me more money. LOL ! I have had NO trouble installng any of the previous Versions on Windows98. This new version was installed on WindowsXP. And, again no problems whatsoever. I have not had a virus in all the years I've been using Norton. Thats my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
