"Upgrade is a major problem"
Updating from 2003 version which I like. Had major problems with my Server and QuickBooks. Repeated lengthy calls to support in India gave me nothing but frustration. Everything they suggested was more and more work for me (I'm talking hours)and I do not believe they ever understood. Now, from another source, I find the problem stems from their data base server design which is new for 2006. I am using the sytem in a very awkward procedure until my outsource IT specialize comes to fix. The new version has some nice new feature but I truly miss the simplicity of working with the older version. If I had the choice to do it again I would pass.

"Quickbook Pro 2006"
I really like the changes made to QuickBooks. Excel is easier to import and export. I find the product a bit more user friendly. The software offers account history at a snap; I really like this feature the best. I know what jobs I've done for any one-account holder the history populates the screen. It makes my searches so much easier. I recommend this product 100%.

"QB 2006, the best QuickBooks ever"
QuickBooks 2006 is a great product. I work with QuickBooks users full time as my job (as an independent, I don't work for Intuit). I wouldn't recommend anything else for small business. As with any software, a new user may want to think about getting a little help with setup and training. In my experience, there is usually much more to the product than users realize. A lot more capabilities than they are aware of. Again, great product!

"review of Quickbooks Pro 2006 - 5 user"
We previously had Quick books Pro 2004 Single user in our Accounts Department, Since we have upgraded, we have received no complaints from the Accts Dept. They can now work on the program at the same time and they have indicated that it is more user friendly and has useful new added features compared to 2004 version.

"Defective Multiuser...should have stayed with QB2000"
This program has a 60 return policy with Intuit - thank god! They say I should get my money back in about six weeks.

Problem: Version 2006 multi-user speeds things up by installing a database engine (as a windows service) on the machine you decide to keep the main QB data file. This is the "recommend" setup. The problem is that the database engine keeps crashing. You can restart the DB service by opening QB on that particular machine, but this is a temporary fix for error #99937. The tech at Intuit says that this is a known problem and they are working on it. The knowledgebase article is dated 11/10/05. How did this product ship in this condition!!! Highly unreliable until the patch is released. The last patch we downloaded did nothing to address the problem (11/23/05).

Buy at own risk!

Even without the database problems it's hard to justify the money for the extra features.

We are staying with clunky version 2000 - at least it works in multi-user mode.

What our customer's say!

"Easy install and upgrade... it works.", Upgraded from 2003. Was concerned because of previous reviews but the upgrade went just fine.

Pros: Product running without a hitch on XP, it is possible that one of the hotfixes solved alot of the previous problems.

Cons: Slightly slower startup, Registration had a loopback problem and even after completing it it would ask to register again. It finally took the registration.

"Great option for small businesses", This item is much easier to use than Peachtree, and works great for the standard functionality of small businesses. It has everything you need to get the ball moving and keep it moving. Despite other complaints of slow processing with the new database engine, we have experienced no issues. The software and database engine is installed on a single processor server with 1GB of RAM and the clients are installed on P4 3.0GHz with 512MB RAM. Everything runs without a hitch.

"Enter at own risk", Upgraded from QB 2004 pro as we needed to add another user and 2004 is not available any more. Kept getting errors trying to convert the file to new system. When we finally got it installed and in working condition, the system is SLOW. Transactions can take a while to complete, just opening the program takes a few mins as well. This is with just two people connected. If I had the choice we would still be running 2004 as the new database system seems to be sluggish, probably 2-3x as slow as it used to be at times.

"No need to upgrade unless you use payroll or merchant svc.", I upgraded from QB Pro 2002 because I wanted to open a merchant account and be able to accept credit cards (sure hope I don't have to upgrade every year to keep merchant account).
I am running a Windows 2003 Server system and using XP-Pro on the work stations. I followed the upgrade instructions, to the letter, and had no problems what-so-ever. As long as you install QuickBooks on the server first and convert existing QB files before installing QuickBooks on any of the work stations you should have no problem.
I don't really care for the new opening menu but once I get used to it, it shouldn't matter. Every other screen is almost identical to my 2002 version. It does take a little longer to open (and close) QuickBooks, which is not a big problem, but I would recommend only using newer, faster computers.
My 2002 version really did everything I needed, accounting principals don't change. I would not recommend upgrading unless you "really" need one of the new features or need to keep up with payroll or merchant services offered by QB.

"USELESS - constantly crashes and locks up my PC!", 1 Star? It shouldn't get any!!!

I'm an accountant and we had to buy this worthless program because a clients data was in QB 2006. EVERY TIME I open the program a) it takes FOREVER to open, b) it crashes constantly - the program will lock up and then just disappear - SWEET!, c) when you want to log out and go home make sure you have about a half hour to spare. The program will, hang, hang, hang, hang then give you a "not responding" error that will take another half hour to clear.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on this absolutely useless product. Quickbooks [...]- now it's an it's alltime worst. Once I'm done retrieving the data this program will be uninstalled from my PC. [...]

Read this reviews before You buy...

"QuckBooks 2006 is easier than ever to use", The 2006 version of QuickBooks is even better than prior years editions. It is much easier to use and learn. It helps non-accountants do bookkeeping and business management functions easily and correctly.

There are big improvements in the 2006 version, such as expanded MS Office import/export features, a new homepage for users that makes it easy for them to understand what steps to do next in their daily work, and an easy, quick set up interview.

I think every small business owner should try out the 2006 QuickBooks - either Pro or Premier, or the 5 pack if you have multiple users.

"Get with Security, Intuit!", In the year 2006 it is INSANE that we as IT pros still have to hack registry hives to get this software to run as a limited privilege account to better secure our computers.

QuickBooks Community - Running QuickBooks 2005 as a Restricted User (Admin Rights FIX):
http://www.quickbooksgroup.com/webx?14@@.eeb323b/9

When will quickbooks begin to code in a secure manner? Peachtree does. Microsoft Small Business Accounting does.

Why does Intuit require updates every few years and acts like we are still all running Windows 98 machines?

Security is important these days. How about stepping up to the plate Intuit and getting with the other vendors?
