"mouse and keyboard only but great graphics and fun"
Bought this recently when trying to expand my library of shooters for pc. I play battlefieldd 1942 and star wars battlefront. Both are good. This game is good too and fast paced especially online. The graphics are very good. Even though the newest version just came out for those who dont have a new computer capable of handling COD4 give this one a try. You can't use a controller easily with it and can't map all the controls though.

"COD Fan"
Overall this game is really good. The games gameplay is good, but some of the levels have waves after waves of German soldiers come to the same spot and start shooting at you, unless you eventually move up to where they're positioned. But you dont have to worry to much unless you like the difficulty on hard or on veteran.the includes the basic WWII weapons and vehicles, such as the British Lee-enfield bolt action rifle,Russian PPSH submachine gun,and the American semi automatic M1 garand, and those are only a few of the weapons. Also has alot of vehicles such as the Sherman tank and the German halftrack. The enemies AI is about average, but your allies are kind of dumb to tell you the truth.this game has 24 levels, 7 American,7Russian,and 13 British.I would recommend this game to anyone who likes QUALITY first person shooters.

"Polished but slightly worn."
I dearly loved the original Call of Duty as well as its expansion pack. Call of Duty 2 takes its predecessor, turns graphics and intensity up to 11, dials back the user interface to make it more console-friendly, and sticks you in the war.
The gameplay is excellent stuff, standard WWII FPS fare in all respects, with hordes of enemies and many weapons. My one an only beef is the (console-driven) reliance on save points; it is absolutely impossible for the player to save their progress, because all the saving is handled by the game. This is a terrible idea in my opinion as it forced me to spend many more game hours fighting my way through some intensely difficult situations over and over again instead of saving my progress as I do in other, "proper" FPSes.
Oh well. You'll find sniping missions, tank missions, antitank missions, the whole gamut. Finally getting to play in North Africa is a treat.
This is enjoyable stuff. Just keep your patience about you and be ready to play some sequences over, and over, and over.

"When a console port goes wrong"
For the record I have always preferred Call of Duty to Metal of Honor. The weapons in CoD~1 were responded better, the graphics and maps seemed better to me. I knew from the first second I opened this box that I had made a bad mistake and didn't trust the negative reviews here: HALF the game manual was blank. That might be okay for me since I've played FPS's since DOOM but still... from there things got worse. At least the CD-key was intact.

I'm sad to say that CoD~2 does not live up as a sequel. At first glance the graphics are better, the AI seems better and everything is a notch up but the PC version of this game is simply a Console Port for a game obviously designed for the X-box et.al. it ignores everything that a PC offers over a console (like quick saves)

This game has about as much to do about WWII as the 1980's coin operated game "Duck Hunt" had to do with duck hunting. The game "cheats" - clear out a 5 man post and wait 5 seconds and 5 more men appear, and again and again and again until you advance to that spot and the game autosaves (or you run out of ammo and die) There is no flanking or tactics or careful house clearing here. If you clear a spot and do not advance far enough before you die (again) then you have to repeat the procedure ad. nauseum. Clear some trenches and backtrack and hand grenades "magically" appear from a nearby trench that you have already cleared to blow you up. Each Zone contains at least one "insta-kill" spot where every single angle is covered and there is no way to advance except by throwing a smoke grenade - oops - you DID save a smoke grenade for later right? Because killing everything does not work, 5 seconds later more bad guys magically appear on the 3rd floor of a building where all the staircases are blocked...

You are almost at a disadvantage to using your own weapons, if you swap out everything for German weapons then at least you collect ammo laying on the ground as you advance. Or, for the truly morbid, just coax 10 of your squad mates to a machine gun nest and pick up THEIR ammo... do NOT depend on your team members - you will be doing 95% of the killing yourself as they get crushed by tanks and walk single-file around a corner into a machine gun nest, or even worse - block the doorway as a grenade gets tossed at your feet. In a crowd of 20 the game ALWAYS shoots at YOU, as they don't even count as a distraction... It's no wonder the game fails automatically if you shoot your squad mates because otherwise I would have executed all mine at the very beginning of each mission (more ammo - yay!)

The "health" is the worst mockery of this game. Even on 'Difficult' nearly any amount of single shots is survivable. While slapping a band-aid/med kit on a sniper bullet hole might not be "realistic" for some, it's even less realistic to find the sniper by walking into the center of the town square, take a chest shot, duck, wait a few seconds until you have "calmed down" then stand up again to take another shot, then repeat as needed as a way to figure out where a sniper might be.... how realistic is that?

Needless to say - I love the old Call Of Duty and it's expansions. This "sequel" left me wishing I had waited for the price to drop to 5$ And furthermore, I won't be buying CoD 3 (or 4) - because I hear it has a really nifty segment that forces you to row a rowboat using the control keys... um, yea.

"Call Of Duty 2 (Review)"
I haven't played the game all the way through yet but so far it has been a lot of fun, the graphics are great, and the soud is pretty realistic too!

What our customer's say!

"one of the three best games i ever played", a very equilibrated game, with lot of game thrill & entertainment, Three different points of view on the same war on the allied forces, three kind of different weaponry and equipments, simply magnificent.

"You can really feel like you are part of the action!", What I really enjoy about this game is how realistic it is! There are a number of great missions that you go on that are based on historical events. Also, you really do feel a part of the actions. For instance, when a bomb explodes next to you, the ground shakes and your controller shakes as well! The game is also rather challenging. Often times it is hard to see who is shooting at you so you have to be very, very careful not too move too quickly or expose yourself to gun fire. One wrong move and you are dead!

I would strongly recommend this game to any fan of shooters...or any fan of good games in general!

"Extremely frustrating save system", I would love this game if they would just fix the save system.

I feel I have no control over the game and that I'm not really interacting with this environment because my only goal is find the next save point. I'm not permitted to play out the game how I want to.
In the traditional game saving system, I would have a sense of accomplishment by being able to save whenever I had performed well. This system takes that away. It only saves by my finding a secret save spot. No thrill there at all.

And it wouldn't be so bad if, upon getting killed, I would instantly start the game play again. Instead an extremely annoying philosophical message appears for a number of seconds. They disrupt the flow of the action to the point where I just don't enjoy this game. I have all the expressions memorized at this point. Why the !@%@@ did the designers impose this on us? I would really like to know.

I refuse to buy the other versions of Call of Duty unless I can confirm that these problems are fixed.

Ugh!

"Fun for Everyone", Call of duty 2 is one of the most funnest game I own. It has an awsome single player exsperience with a cool tactical edge. It also has online play that would even intrest the casual gamer. Another good thing is you could have an old computer and still play it. Over-all, Call of duty 2 is sweet. So if you are looking for a good FPS at a low cost, Get this game!

"What happened to # 3?", I am a big fan of the Call of Duty series. As a PC gamer I'm pleased that Call of Duty 4 is available, but what happened to COD 3 for the PC gamer? I feel as if the gaming industry is turning into the movie industry, meaning games made for 15 - 25 year olds, thus I give COD 5 stars, but I hope in the future I hope Activision doesn't forget about the PC adults.

"Improvement over the original", The original Call of Duty and United Offensive expansion pack set the benchmark for first person World War II shooters. Call of Duty 2, by following the formula of the original and offering numerous improvements, might actually be a better game overall. First, the graphics have gotten a much needed update. While the original Call of Duty is nice, COD2 is pure eye candy. Little details in the graphics make all the difference -- the smoke is incredibly realistic, the models look far better, and the weapons are much higher definition and have a more realistic feel to them. Second, the sound is drastically improved. The battle chatter is great, especially in the British campaigns. Bullets whiz, mortars boom, and anti-aircraft fire rattles away. It truly is an immersive experience. Third, the level detail and layout is much better than the original Call of Duty. The mission selection menu is great. You switch between the Russian and British campaigns and wind up closing down the game with the Americans. While each campaign has great levels, some of the best are the initial British fights against the Desert Fox in northern Africa and the American battle at Point Du Hoc. Taking the beach there is incredibly -- even better than Stalingrad in the original Call of Duty -- but the best part is the second mission where you have to hold the beach against a Germany counter offensive. You end up getting beaten back all the way to the ocean before your reinforcements arrive.

Although some other reviewers have noted the short length of the game, I found it perfectly fine. A first I was afraid that I would beat the game in short order, but it ended up taking over a month with average game play per week around seven to eight hours. I highly recommend setting the difficulty setting on at least "hardened." That will definitely make the game a more enjoyable experience and lengthen it for you. If you're beating the missions in ten minutes, that's probably because the difficulty is too low for your skill level.

My one gripe is the system requirements. While they are not too bad, you need a very nice machine to run this game in all of its glory. I have a Pentium 2.8Ghz, 1.5GB of ram, GeForce 6800GT graphics card, and could run the game with most of the special affects turned down but the detail turned all the way up at a decent resolution without much lag. But still, the original Call of Duty would run seamlessly on my system, even though there is a noticeable difference in the graphics quality. COD2 was definitely designed for the latest graphics cards, so be warned. Unless you're into high resolutions and all the bells and whistles, though, your system should run it OK.

I'm glad to see the price for COD2 has really come down. You can get a used copy for around $10 here. Not bad at all. Definitely recommended.

"not bad at all", Call of Duty II is a very good and fun game, and I spent hours playing it, but the only reason I couldn't give it five stars was because I liked the original call of duty and the expansion pack, call of duty united offensive, much better. Call of Duty II changed some of the graphics and the gameplay, so it just doesn't feel right after I've been playing the original for two years. The multiplayer seems to have gotten harder or something, because on the original, I can pretty much match the skills of all the other players, except the noobs of course. But on Call of Duty II's multiplayer, I've gotten killed so many times that I've stopped trying. I just play my United Offensive expansion multiplayer now because it just feels better and sometimes seems much more realistic. It's a fun game to play, but if you've ever played the original Call of Duty before, you might want to stick with that unless you want to have a whole now experience.

"A little disappointed", I was not fully impressed with the new release of Call of Duty2. It was 6 disks long, and tagged a high price. One would expect a great improvement over the original CoD, and its great sucessor United Offesive. CoD2 was a let down for me. I thought I would get an overall improvement and change over the original idea. But it wasn't. Weapons did not work like in CoD. The Thompson lost it's unique kick, with high slugging impack, and the rifle it's 'knock-out' fire power and high accuracy. The A.I. of the enemy was way-off. I began the game on regular difficulty to help make it more challenging, but sometimes the germans would catch you right on and fall down like mannequins. When a game is not challenging, there is no thrill in playing it. Millitary tactiques are nothing but challenging and complex. The game makes it too easy. Overall CoD2 is again a very fun. Graphics have been improved slightly, added features and mult-paths. (This will slow the game down on old machines. I had some trouble running it on a p4 2.6 Mhz dual with nVidia 6200, and it did run slow). With all the work they are doing with the game, one would think they would improve the A.I. and overall game, but they didn't. I am becoming more of a Brother's in Arms fan now. I think it has more Realism and better A.I. Far Cry is the best for A.I. You'd think they'd borrow from each other and improve. I hope this review was helpful.

"Excellent Game", Call of Duty 2 is probably the most enjoyable game I have played in a long while. I can't comment on regards to whether the game is better than its predecessor because I haven't played it.

Gameplay: I would have to say the most emphasis in the game is on you and your mens advancement. You cannot remain in one position for too long. Some see this as a downside because the enemy constantly spawns unless you advance, but I see it as a great way to keep the game moving and the intensity high. This game is the most realistic war game I have ever played. A lot of attention is given to you seeking cover and staying low. Only downside to the game is your inability to throw an enemies grenade back at them.

Graphics: Luckily I recently purchased a new graphics card, so I was able to play this game at the maximum graphics settings. I must say that the game is quite stunning.

Sound: Extra Kudos goes to the sound development team. The surround sound on this game is probably the best out there. Talk about being right in the middle of each battle.

Controls: You can set up the controls basically to your liking which is a good thing because the default controls didn't agree with me.

Overall: Call of Duty 2 is a very engrossing and fun game. Highly recommended.

"Awesome Game", This game is absolutely awesome game it has great graphics and sound. The gameplay is great and the missions are so much fun to play with. The only reason i gave it 4 stars was because it is a little easy to beat, i have almost finished the game i have beat two campaigns and almost half way done with the third campaign. I have accomplished this on regular in about 6-8 hours of playing. Luckily there is still hard and harder to beat. This game is really intense and historically accurate with footage before the mission starts giving you the historical background. The AI are also very good and accurate at shooting. I recomend this game and it is well worth the money. Be sure however to check the requirments and make sure you have enough room on your computer for this game which took 6 dics to load.
Great Game, Lots of Fun and action
