"Great until it breaks."
My cousin and I both bought one of these several months back. The controller was the best I'd seen. The problem lies in a design flaw that you don't find until after several months of use. I was talking to my cousin and he told me his directional pad had broken off. I thought it was just a flue and that he'd been rough with his, but the same thing happened to mine about a month later. Apparently, the d-pad is held in place by thin plastic that gives way after awhile. Sad, considering it was such a great controller and now I'm limited to using the analog.

"Meh"
Amazon sent it, I ordered new but got used, the boxes where taped up in a sloppy manner with no instructions or drivers with visible oily fingerprints on the controller. They sent it a week late, presumably I got someone else's returned product since it was out of stock. No big deal though since it had no scratches or visible issues, I downloaded the drivers from the manufacturers website. I wanted the gamepad because it said it had programmable buttons which turns out to be pretty disgusting to manage. The software to program the keys comes separate from the drivers. The manufacturer makes you download a 20mb installer (which extracts who knows how many mb's) which lets you set a lot of different controls for each button, but the UI is a total mess and it comes with the drop down list of all their keyboards / gamepads / mouse products. It also installs a bunch of drivers to software you DONT HAVE like the saitek keyboard. There's no way to selectively install just your gamepad software.

It's a friggin controller. It shouldn't be eating tons of disk space. The profile editor also eats 23mb of ram. Not much, but ram you could have used instead towards improving rendering on your game.
The blue strip in the middle of the controller, which I thought was plastic or metallic by the pic, is actually a bright LED with no way to turn it off. I'd like my controller to be simple and efficient, not energy wasting and distracting at the same time. It helps kill my laptop faster on long trips. The $30 list price is just plain wrong too just so it looks like it's always discounted. It's really really hard to find it over $30.

"Not so good"
The buttons and things are ok, but the most important part, the directional pad is awful.

"Not as good as the last one, but..."
I bought this controller to replace my old Saitek P880, the previous iteration of this controller, which finally gave out on me after four years of abuse.

For the most part this is still a good, solid controller, except for one factor - The D-pad, compared to the one on my P880, feels incredibly cheap and sometimes sticks, and did so right out of the box. The feel of the other buttons is similar or identical, but the D-pad is rather annoying for games I use it in when it triggers. Mind you, it's maybe one time out of a hundred and fifty or so, but still annoying when it happens.

For the record, I use the controller for the games Phantasy Star Universe and Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst, which are both third-person action games, and the d-pad is used only for menus. For what it's worth, if you play Phantasy Star Universe, this is the only controller I've found that actually has enough buttons for all the functions you can map to a controller, finally removing my need to still use the keyboard for certain things.

If you like controllers with six face buttons rather than the four-button layout that seems to be more common, this is a good one to get, just mind that there can be issues with the D-pad. If your game doesn't use the D-pad, then there isn't a problem I can think of.

"Solid control but poor programming software"
Overall i am pleased with this gamepad. It works great as long as the game itself has a good control setup of its own as i found the downloadable programming software to be somewhat frustrating. it really isn't very user friendly or pretty(just a minor grip). for some reason assigned buttons just randomly won't do what they are supposed to and have to be reassigned and then still might not work. it shouldn't be difficult or take this much effort to program a controller. however once setup it is very nice.

"WORST for Mugen", if you are using this for a fighting game that requires using arrows pad (the grey on far left) to do some super moves or final moves like Mugen, or street fighter style games then this is absolotely not good for you unless you use the analogue instead. till now 2 of these are broken and about 1 hour back the third one is broken too (i mean the grey arrow tab).
i bought this cause it contains 6 bottons and it's rarly found anywhere.

"The Basic Gamepad Par Excellence", An excellent gamepad all around--my weapon of choice for nearly every game (despite the fact I own several Logitech Dual-Actions).

I find that the controller size is perfect: a bit bigger than the Logitechs, they tend to sit better when I pick up the controller. Both analog sticks are right where your thumbs end up, making it very easy to accurately move them, even when you need to nudge them slight distances with great accuracy. The shoulder triggers are large and well placed-whether you use your pointer and middle fingers or whether you just use the pointer fingers, you'll find that you won't hesitate for a millisecond to find any trigger button. The fact that there are six face buttons is a dream for those arcade-style games that need them (Marvel vs. Capcom, etc).

There are two downsides that every single person will face with this controller, though they shouldn't be nearly enough to discourage you.

The first is the FPS feature activation button--it sits on the top of the controller near the face buttons and did tend to get in the way in the beginning--I never use the feature and hitting it by accident has unwelcome effects on gameplay (sometimes, your buttons won't work until you press the button again). I for one virtually never hit it anymore, but if it were still a problem for me, I wouldn't hesitate to pop out the button with a screwdriver--it's not like you would actually use the button, not ever.

The second is the Directional D-Pad (if you won't really be playing classic/emulated games, this shouldn't be an issue to you). Although it's comfortably shaped, it makes for somewhat buttery gameplay. It's tough to pull off complicated combo moves in fighting games, because your timing will be inevitably thrown off a tiny bit because the D-Pad moves too softly and gel-like. It shouldn't be a problem in more forgiving games like Mortal Kombat (and of course games like Mario will work just fine), but it took me weeks and weeks to get my super moves working every time in Marvel vs. Capcom. I persevered solely because of the six face buttons and I must say it's entirely worth it. As for the "durability" of the D-Pad: I have used this controller for years (with a fair amount of abuse) and the D-Pad is as steady as the day it arrived in the mail.

It's a shame that discussing cons takes so much longer than listing the pros, even though the pros outweigh the cons by many orders of magnitude. If you're looking for a great gamepad, BUY THIS CONTROLLER! You won't be sorry. As a note, the Saitek P2600 Rumble Pad PC Game Controller will do everything this gamepad does and will also rumble with games that support it--I wholeheartedly recommend that controller as well, especially since the two controllers are the EXACT same size and are very, very close in weight.

P.S. Don't forget to install the Saitek driver. Even though Windows will automatically detect the gamepad, you still need to download and install the official Saitek driver or else some games won't recognize the controller properly.

"Works well and inexpensive...", I do most gaming on my PC but if you want to do any racing games you really need a decent gamepad.

This has a plethora of buttons, always gets detected properly, and is very responsive. This was my second purchase of one of these btw. My son needed the first one I bought...

"a good layout, but not without it's problems", This controller has an excellent control layout. However, the analog controls have fairly large deadzones, and the cord is particularly short. The dpad does feel really cheap, but works fine. Unfortunately, there isn't really any other controllers out there right now with a layout like this. It works great for numerous games, from shooters like Goldeneye to platformers. However, one thing this controller is NOT good for is fighting games.

"Solid pad with room for improvement.", I got this pad to play games on my PC (obviously) and love the six face button, four shoulder trigger, two clickable analog stick layout. It's really nice. Unfortunately, the controller isn't the most comfortable thing in the world to hold. It feels a bit bulky and a bit cheaply made, though I haven't had any problems with it. The middle FPS button is nice, as I've found it just swaps the (kinda crappy) D-Pad with the left joystick, but I haven't used the button on the right yet. Finally, there's no start or select buttons! Such a natural pair of buttons to add to any controller and they've been neglected here. Not a huge problem but it just feels weird not having them there.

Anyway, this controller's layout is almost perfect. I think a few people here complained about drivers, but it's worked flawlessly through plug 'n play. Zero configuration and it's been great.

"Purchased two and love them", Product arrived earlier than expected. High quality product, great for use with emulators and many games. The programmable features make them perfect for almost any game, though I still prefer my mouse and keyboard for RTS and FPS games.

"Great controller", What can I say - it's a great controller with 2 smooth analog sticks and plenty of buttons - including 4 on top. Haven't figured out what the FPS button is for but I'm sure that will be fun.

It fits comfortably in the hand, and is lightweight without feeling cheap. With so many out there I wasn't sure which one to get, but I researched this one and I'm glad I chose it. 5 stars.

"One of the worst game controllers I have ever seen", I bought this controller at Circuit City about a year ago and decided to try it. It was fairly cheap, so I thought, I'll give a shot. After using it, I have to say this is an awful controller. Here's why.

I grew up playing video games, so I was expecting it to be very similar to some of the console's controllers. I found the controller to be VERY unresponsive and lackluster. I tested it with several games and RPG's seem to be the best for the controller, even though the silver directional pad would mysteriously have you go south when you want to go east. Action/adventure games do the worst with this controller.

The only positives I can say is the analog sticks sometimes offer decent responsiveness and the shoulder buttons are very responsive. The six buttons to the right of the analog sticks vary from responsive (in RPG's, action RPG's and the like) to frustrating (in action oriented games).

I do not recommend this product at all. If you do get it, don't try to play action oriented games because it will frustrated you to the point of nearly destroying your controller. My failure is either because I just suck at the game or it's something else. Most people who do need to realize this is a cheaply made controller and there are better PC game controllers out there.

"The best pc game for emulation", I've owned the saitek 2500 rumble and the wireless logitech rumblepad 2 in the past and this one fits my needs. For n64 emulation the rumbblepad 2 doesn't cut it because of all the buttons the n64 controller has and this one is perfect. It's also great for arcade emulation for fighting games that use 6 buttons to attack. The 4 shoulder buttons is brilliant compared to 2 on other gamepads because it allows one of them to be used for the Z-trigger for n64 emulation. The only thing it doesn't do is rumble, but there are barely any games that support it. Perfect buy for me!

"Great product", I have played FIFA 07 with this controller for almost a year, and have yet to have a problem with it.

Pros:
- XP automatically detects it, easy setup.
- Easy on the fingers/hands even after long hours of goal scoring.
- Lightweight, but seems sturdy enough. (survived several throws against a wall - just checking its strong construction :)
- Great price for the product.

Cons:
- Not really a problem at the moment, but after constant use, the joystick plastic begins to rub against the side causing gradual chaffing. This is common in most joysticks though, and it really shouldn't cause any mechanical problems, just visual ones as the black coating wears off.
