"Fits in the file folder!"
I was worried about where I was going to fit the scanner on my crowded desk, but I discovered that is was small enough to easily fit in my file cabinet in a hanging folder. It takes about 1 minute to initialize when I plug it in each time, but after I'm done, I just lock the scanning mechanism in place and file it away until it is needed again. Great quality for a very reasonable price.

"Royal pain to get working in Vista"
I bought this scanner thinking that it was compatible with Windows Vista. Unless you go to the technical details section for this scanner in Amazon.com, there is nothing that says this won't work with Vista.

Once I received the scanner and opened the box, I found a sheet of paper that instructed Vista users to go to www.canon.com/support-hub/vista/

I did that, but the Lide 25 scanner wasn't one of the ones listed! Now that's just dumb on Canon's part. So then I searched Canon's website for Vista compatibility for this scanner, and after awhile I found the Vista drivers and software for this specific scanner, and started downloading the ones shown. Beware though--even though you have to specify the scanner model and OS in dropdown menus, they include OS/X software in the list, and it's not made apparent until you click on them which ones you're about to download.

So I downloaded the correct drivers and software in the list and installed them, but there were two other Vista-compatible software programs I still needed, ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR and ArcSoft PhotoStudio. So I went to the ScanSoft website and downloaded a Vista-compatible version, but when I checked ArcSoft's website, I couldn't find a way to download PhotoStudio without paying $80, $30 more than I did for my scanner! Checking the Canon website again, it said that PhotoStudio wasn't compatible with Vista, so I was out of luck, since I primarily intended to use the scanner for photos.

There remains only one thing to do--get an RMA and send this hunk of junk back to Amazon.com. While it may have been my fault that I didn't read the technical details to find out which versions of Windows this scanner was and was not compatible with, everywhere else it says that it is compatible with Windows. Well, Vista IS windows, and it's been out for nearly two years as of 10/08.

"Easy and great"
I didn't really need this. I'd just bought a Mac, which was incompatible with my Visioneer flatbed scanner, but I still had my Windows PC and Windows as an option on my Mac. But since I could get an additional rebate through my new job, I thought, why not?

I don't know how I did without it. This thing is so small, I just put it under my office sofa (it's not very tall). It's also very lightweight. I love how it's powered through my Mac's USB, so no extra power cords. And the software is easy to use and very effective.

I'm so happy I bought this. I'm finding more uses for it all the time. Flatbed scanners have come a long way!

"Lightweight and portable- I love it!"
I've only been using this scanner for a few weeks, but it is working great, it stores easily and produces very good scans in color and grayscale.

What our customer's say!

"great scanner", This is a great all purpose scanner. Power supply through USB - so no additional cabling etc.
Great image quality. I have been using it since 2005 - flawless.
Quite compact - so one can carry it in a briefcase, if necessary.
And - works with a Mac quite seamlessly.
Even works with SANE (linux, unix).

Only thing that I miss is the ADF. But of course, that will significantly reduce the portability of the scanner.

"Great all-purpose scanner for a home business!", I'm really not a tech-expert, so I can't provide details about the technical specifications that make this a great scanner, however, I can say that I have a home-based business and I find this to be a great product for what I need. It's very very light, easy to transport, and the best thing is that you don't need a power cord! Yes, you just hook it up by USB to your computer and that's it, it's ready to go! I also like the software it comes with, it's easy to use and for my business needs it's just perfect.

"Cannon Scanner", The Cannon Scanner works very well and the instruction manual is very easy to understand. Having the ability to be able to copy, scan and e-mail without needing to go into the software is very convenient.

"from central america", I had bought a CanoScan 650U about 5 years ago and is still going strong and i was so impressed I went for another Cano Scan for my Company. it is slim and can be adjusted for thick books and it has only one USB cord for both scan and Power.this LiDE 25 has three small buttons in the front for quick scan-copy-email option which is very handy. if I was you I would go for another one

"Slim, light, good quality", This scanner is extremely thin and lightweight. It runs completely off the power from the USB cable, no power cable. Quality from the scans is very high. The only thing that bothers me is the software - it must be running in order for the quick buttons on the scanner to scan, and then when you want to save the photos you have to close the software before it prompts you to save. There's no File/Save option that is obvious. I feel that this is an excellent choice for such a low cost, and it has definitely met my needs.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"my six-month scanner", I'm giving this product a 4, in part for the service which Canon provides, which is very good. I ordered the CanoScan LiDE25 on March 28th, began using it a week later, and it stopped working near the end of September. I was sent a replacement soon after contacting customer support by email. The replacement I've received is a LiDE70 and the installation disk was defective, but within a day I was emailed information from CanoScan tech support (after a few tries) that made it possible to download the installation software from the Canon website and my replacement scanner is now working. For the price - and especially for the customer, tech and sales support - I'm satisfied. Satisfied with Canon support generally - have found it good and quick for all products I own. I like Kodak quality too, but their online and phone support is virtually non-existent and so I buy Canon instead. Similarly, with Samsung I've had great tech support so now for both quality and support I buy Samsung instead of HP.

"Macintosh users beware", I purchased the model several years ago. I'd been quite happy with it, it worked on my PCs or my Macintoshs. The problem now is Canon has not kept up with the drivers on the Macintosh and since I don't use PCs anymore this unit is dead weight. Searching the Internet for alternate drivers shows me many other people have the same issue with driver software and there seems to be no alternatives. It is not USB 2.0 compatible BTW. It was not designed to be.

"Pretty good quality", It does good job for documents and photos. The only problem is a little bit slow.

"great performance", Great performance for the money, very easy to install. I am very satisfied with the product and delivery.

"CanoScan Lide 25", Especially in light of its low price ($49.99 with free (and prompt!) shipping), this product is an excellent piece of equipment and a fantastic buy, especially since my first scanner, which occupied half my desk space, cost just over $200.00! I've read negative reviews about its noise (scarcely more than a whisper), its slowness (so far I've never had more than a minute taken up, and, at age 80, I have the patience to deal with that), and scan quality (the first scan I did was to copy and print out our 2 passports, and it captured every detail accurately), all I can say is picky, picky, picky! I've set mine to import directly to Graphic Converter (The poor man's PhotoShop for the Mac, at $35.00!), which enables me to adjust sharpness, brightness, contrast, color balance, and color saturation in seconds, I'm delighted with the gadget. Perhaps the critics need to take the time to experiment with the ample contols available.
