Others say...
"T. V. Goodwin is right" Too late.
I just read T. V. Goodwin review after I placed an order for MAGIX Audio Clean Lab 10. I am going to send a complaint to the FTC since it says nothing about the upgrade on the package until one go to export a file as a MP3 format. The upgrade says nothing about not being transferable. It is bad enough to have to buy a program twice, but 3 and 4 times? That is why I quit buying Norton products.
"Not really pleased with the product" Well if you have no desire in converting your music or lecture to mp3, then this product is excellent. However if you want to convert your lecture or music into mp3, here is the problem.
You have to register for a password to enable the MP3 encoder. Not a problem on the first load. But if your computer crashes and you decide to buy a new one computer. The activation code will not work on your new computer and they will NOT NOT NOT send you a new activation code.
So you are stuck with two option, either by some new software or find an wav to mp3 converter.
My thing is this, why do they have this activation code in the first place. It is such a big pain in the butt. If you paid for the product you shouldn't have to register it to activate something you already paid for.
There are other alternatives to audio cleaning.
Sound Forge Audio Studio, you don't have to register to active the mp3 encoder.
If that is to expensive, there are free recorders on the internet.
I am NOT NOT NOT very pleased about this feature, because I restore my computer back to factory setting once a year. And you cannot enable the mp3 encoder once you have activated it once. As Magix will not send you another password. And I am about to upgrade my computer to a brand new computer and guess what, this product will worthless, once I get a new computer. I'll have to buy a new one.
"There Is Hope For Old Recordings" At last, an affordable "Mastering Studio On The PC" package!
My experiences so far have been very good for the most part, being able to clean up old cassette recordings and such from my archives has been a huge blessing. I like the Spectral Cleaning option that, with some practice, allows one to eliminate specific noises (like clicks, static and other sonic pests).
For someone new to this whole world of remastering and cleaning up old recordings, this package is a great tool with a lot of great features for the money and the analyzing wizards are useful for newbies. Getting the hang of this package isn't very hard at all and with time becomes progressively easier to fine tune and tweak to your liking.
Not absolutely perfect but a darn good deal for the money.
"Check your soundcard compatibility" Your ability to use this software may depend on your soundcard. The previous reviewer does not say what card is in his system. I have an earlier version of this product. When first installed, it worked perfectly. Then my card (Soundblaster Live) died, and I replaced it with a generic cheap card, at which point Audio Cleaning Lab and various other programs either locked up or otherwise failed to work. I replaced the no-name card with an Audigy and everything works again, including Audio Cleaning Lab. I'm not trying to sell Creative products, but not all sound cards have truly Soundblaster compliant drivers. Maybe Magix need to test more widely than they do, but when it does work, ACL is very useful.
"You'll need insecticide and a lot of patience" I have never owned a piece of software as buggy as this thing. I am running it on an AMD 64 3500+ system with RAID and SATA drives, XP Pro. This thing does nothing but crash. I got it to record a record, but when I went to the audio cleaning section, it crashed every time I tried to use the Wizard. The interface is not very intuitive and the whole thing is cobbled up with really stupid looking audio equipment faceplates and dials. What a mess. I have yet to make a recording with it. Don't waste your money on this software. Want to buy my copy? I certainly can't use it.

What our customer's say!
"Don't need to be a Pro.", This is great software for editing albums to CD's or live recording to CD's. I have been able to clean the sound on 40 year old albums. Now I have no clicks, pop,s or surface noise. I have also used this product to record my band live and the next day have a CD to sell at our next gig.
"Other reviews need correcting", The main problem seems to be the MP3 encoder message for 20 uses. It's really just Magix getting you to register. Once registered, they send you a code, you paste into the message window and MP3 conversion is now unlimited and there is no extra cost involved (on reinstall, just do the same). Just read the instructions before going ballistics and badmouthing an excellent program. Audio Cleaning Lab is an awesome piece of software. It will capture, clean, edit, and burn flawlessly. Records streams or anything that plays on your system. I've owned it for 3 years and have never had a hiccup and I use it extensively. I like oldies that are hard to find and not always the best quality streams - this program brings them to life as it does tapes and lps. It's by far the best of breed, retail or free.
I made the mistake of buying Roxio's EMC9 (not for audio processing). To test it, I recorded a stream of an album not DRM protected (which I do often) with EMC. When it was done, the EMC editor wouldn't open the .wav file it had created, not would Windows MP10. I pulled the file into Magix, it said there was a file error, went ahead and fixed it, autodetected the 18 tracks perfectly, it played in Media Player. I tried EMC9 again and this time it opened the file, but detected 20 tracks (2 in error). Magix made it easy to list tracks, broke out and named single files for my library, burned a cd and converted everything to MP3 which will play on anything. It did all this in a very short time.
I did find a flaw in the program. It just will not wash my windows or do dishes.
"Audio Cleaning Lab", The product works exactly as described. It's easy to use, although the instructions could be stated more clearly. All my old vinyls will be on CD in the near future.
"Doesn't work as advertised", This product appears to be the real deal for converting your vinyl and tape collection to CD or DVD. It has a number of features for removing tape hiss and pops and crackles from vinyl recordings via easy to use slider bars in the control window as well as auto track detection which is a nice feature.
What they don't tell you is that the MP3 encoder is only good for 20 uses- 10 of which you'll burn getting the hang of the software! Of course they are happy to sell you the add-on MP3 encoder. I'm an advanced PC user and I can't get it to work properly. My vinyl and tape conversions all come out "tinny" sounding. My PC is 1.2 ghz with over 700mbytes of RAM and I get frequent "you are overloading the system" messages. I'd guess that you wouldn't even want to try using it with the minimum config of 450mhz and 64MB of RAM.
The real reason for this product seems to be as a come-on for another version of the software as there are plenty of notices about how to upgrade. And, while I suspect they are within the letter of law trumpeting "MP3 Encoder" in their product information, the fact that they don't tell you the encoder is merely a trial version with limited usages makes me suspicious of everything else Magix claims. I'm frankly quite terked off at the product but of course you can't return software for a refund.
"Freeware is betterware!", Having trouble with ACL? Then try the freeware Audacity (audacity.soundforge.net) It's fast, has a wealth of features, never crashes, writes MP3's... Do I need to say more?
You might need this...
