"Bugged and disgusted"
I have two computers, and this program runs on neither one! You must have an internet connection or the program cannot run - despite what it says on the package about "internet functionality".

The program fails with a critical error on my laptop, which is connected to the internet.

I deeply regret spending money on Money 2006. Thirty bucks that I will never see again :.(

"Gets the job done"
Had been using MS Money 2002 up to this point and really loved it. Circumstances forced me to upgrade my Compaq laptop with this version. Although I'm not a big fan of this version, it does get the job done. The the program files loaded off the CD-ROM with no problems and I suffered no hang-ups, stalls, or anything else when loading and installing. Insofar as the program itself is concern, MS Money 2002 is better, but this version will do. It's a sign of the times.

"Home Bookkeeping"
Microsoft Money 2006 was an upgrade for the Money 1998 I had, so my old file wouldn't convert. I had a hunch it wouldn't so had made the necessary preparations. I probably should upgrade more than once every 8 years, but I like the older products better. Money 2006 is lacking some of the report features of the old one, but the Accounts and Bill Summary is nicer. It is a good product for keeping track of your household bills and assets, easy to use and not nearly as intense as Quick Books or Quicken. I've never had occasion to use on-line support. All in all, a good product.

"It's going back to the store tomorrow"
I'm a former Quicken user. I came to hate them with a passion for not supporting their own software just three years old -- intuit customer support was a bad joke -- and even after having used Quicken since about 1988, I never got used to their clumsy screens.

So when my last copy of Quicken became obsolete and they wanted more money for an upgrade, I decided to try Money.

I should have known better. This, after all, is a Microsoft product. It's loaded with hooks to get you to buy more stuff from Microsoft, it insists that you use their web browser, and quite frankly, when I read the fine print in the "Accept-our-license-or-leave" window that pops up as you load it for the first time, I really don't want to have any of my financial information residing on a Microsoft data bank somewhere. Why do they need to store my information on their computers? With every hacker in the world trying to notch their gun by breaking into Microsoft, why would anybody want to risk their account information with Bill Gates? Then there is the issue of the fine print in the privacy agreement. If you can wade through this boilerplate you'll see that it works 100 percent in their favor. They reserve the right to sell your contact information to third party marketers. Screw that!

There's got to be a better product out there somewhere -- one that doesn't get involved in your personal financial business as much as Microsoft wants to do.

Bottom line, by installing this software on your computer, you are exposing yourself and your most personal financial information to persons unknown. Maybe some people are comfortable with that, I'm not.

"Switched to Money and couldn't be happier"
Beginning with the first DOS version, I've been a Quicken user for many years, both for business and personal use. Far too frequently, Intuit abandons their user base and forces an upgrade. Finally fed up with this, I switched to Money and couldn't be happier.

Initially, I downloaded the trial version from Microsoft. Money automatically and seamlessly picked up all my Quicken data. The two programs are similar enough that the change-over was effortless. The user interface in Money is more intuitive. Reports are easier. Compared to Quicken 2002, Money has a better way of printing that left-over third check on the sheet.

Using the basic functions, which is all I need at home, I have not encountered any third party advertisements. One of the Amazon reviews complains about that, and it would be a huge negative for me, but so far this hasn't been a problem. In fact, one of my complaints about Quicken is that Intuit-related ads appear from time to time, forcing a response before allowing the user to continue. So far I haven't noticed this in Money, but it won't surprise me if it happens. My bank is not capable of interfacing with either Money or Quicken, but in Money downloading credit card information was a snap. Quicken left me trying to do this for most of a morning without informing that my version was no longer being supported.

What our customer's say!

"Does what I need.", This is good software for managing your money. It does what it is suppose to.

"I give it an F", I have been working happily with MS Money on my Windows XP computer. I just bought a second Windows Vista computer and downloaded a new version of Money Essentials on it, so I can work with my Money files on the new computer. The new version of Money can not read the .mny files on the older version! So there is no way I can work with my own Money data on my computer (if I had bee a Quicken user, I could transfer the data).

Money has become a useless product for me - I give it an F.

"Good program, just not very usefull", I have tried almost every year to get into using Microsoft Money, I'm just a tech junkie really. I love using computers to do all sorts of things, Media Center, heck, even controlling the lights in my house. But managing my money?

I think many users will just be disappointed with the actual functionality of this software, is it missing something? I think so.

Fact is, you can do almost everything through the existing online banking with your current bank. I just seem to find issues with actually finding a use for MS Money.

It becomes even more difficult if certain bills change, or you have varying income. How do you plan a budget, etc... when your income changes week to week? It seems to become more of an annoyance than a useful tool.

But WHEN would MS Money be useful? If you have some steady income, or have some serious budgeting issues, if you cut your finances really close every month, this may help you budget yourself a little better. But really... who DOESNT know how much their bills are month after month?

So I was really hoping the online capabilities would make this thing great. But they don't. The software "offers" integration with my accounts, but 4 out of 5 of my institutions, will not bring up any information in MS Money, so yup, I get to login to my financial institution manually, then download the file into money, thus, making it pointless to use MS Money in the first place. And the 4 institutions that don't seem to work? Citicards, CapitalOne, Washington Mutual Cards, and Bank of America Credit card. NONE of them work, ALL are major carriers. The only thing that does work nicely, is my washington mutual bank accounts... great..... But again, whats the point if I can't manage ALL my accounts.

So again, if you have serious budgeting issues, and the patience to sit in front of the software and carefully budget everything, add everything in manually, and maybe even some investments you want to track, etc... Money might be usefull... But for me, I'm going to wait until they get their online kinks worked out... because for me, it's all about convenience, and this just aint convenient.

"Microsoft Money works for me", I use it to manage our savings and checking accounts. It gives you options to manage other accounts, but I just keep it simple. It works great.

"Money is better than Quicken", I've been using either quicken or money since the late 80's. I started out with Quicken, but then one day my computer hard drive crashed. I thought I would be OK, since I always backed up my quicken to alternating floppies; however, Quicken could not recover my files from the floppy backups. I switched to MS Money in '95 and NEVER LOOKED BACK. I have been using MS 2006 for several months (it was preinstalled on my Compaq laptop) and find only one annoyance; they seem to be keen on you putting your Money data on the web. Sorry, I don't trust MS security that much, but I do like MS Money 2006. I hear there are not enough improvements in the 2007 version to justify an upgrade. Also, if you have 2005, no real need to go to 2006 either. I did trial a copy of Quicken last year just to see if they'd caught up with Money, but I was not impressed enough to switch.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Don't download from MicroSoft", This review refers not to the operation of MS Money 2006 Standard, but warns against attempting to download Money directly from MicroSoft.

1st, Microsoft charges $30.00 for Money 2006 standard.

2nd, after purchase from MS, I was given a link that installed a TRIAL version of 2006 DELUXE. Much web searching, email, and phone conversations later, and a MS rep said, "Yeah, that site keeps putting up the wrong link, and they can't seem to get it fixed"

3rd, I was finally put in touch with an CSR rep who gave me a link that was supposed to allow me to download the program I bought--but it was a broken link.

The CSR then told me to again go their website, re-purchase their program (hoping for different results, presumably), then contact them and ask for a refund on the second purchase.

Moral of the Story: If you need to buy a Microsoft program, I strongly suggest you go to a big box and buy the physical disk. MS just wasted a couple hours of my time.

"Better than Quicken", After many years of using Quicken, I became frustrated, decided to try something new, and purchased Microsoft Money 2006 Standard edition. My biggest complaint with Quicken was their frequent insistence to upgrade to the newest version, implying that the one I owned was substandard. This year was most annoying, since they are no longer supporting Quicken 2003 and have decided to encourage one to upgrade for a charge of $40!! Well, that was it for me. I read about Money and decided to give it a try. So far, I really like it. It's as easy to use as Quicken and very complete. I went with the standard edition since the add-ons with the more expensive versions were unnecessary for my purposes. It has reports and summaries like Quicken. Also, I connect to their online services to allow easy downloading for my checking, savings, credit card, and investment accounts. My one gripe is that the credit card register does not allow for memo comments. To correct for this, I added more descriptive categories to distinguish more completely among the charges (i.e., the specific details for each job-related purchase).

"Easy to keep track of your accounts!", Mircrosoft Money 2006 Standard is an easy way to keep track of your money in mulitple accounts. The background banking feature automatically helps you keep track of cleared items and drops them right into your account. Once you set everything up, you can't help but to keep your accounts balanced to the penny!

"Microsoft Money 2006 Standard", Very easy to use. I especially like the pie chart that shows your spending for the categories you set up. It will keep track of savings and investments. A budget is easy to set up and you can target certain categories to watch in relation to your budget. This is much easier to use than Quicken.

"not working for me.", i cannot get any information from my bank through microsoft money standard here in Alaska, they do not interact.
