What our customer's say!
"Probably The Best Game Ever Made", Lots of reviews before this and for the console versions too. However I think it fair to say that GTA: San Andreas is the best PC game I have ever played. Within the GTA series it is better than both Vice City (which now has a few issues running on modern hardware) and its console successor GTA4, which really had a hard act to follow.
The scale and scope of the game is immense, combining elements of FPS, RPG, driving, strategy, puzzle solving and a huge virtual sandbox to explore. It's also very much a rite de passage as you control the main character Carl "CJ" Johnson on a journey which starts with him left penniless after arriving in Los Santos to a triumphant denouement. This is not a game you will play through in a few evenings - in addition to something like 100 main story missions, there are numerous side tasks to attempt. Although these are optional, a fair number contribute towards the elusive 100% completion achievement, while others help in developing skills or utilities that come in handy later on. (Note, although I've played through SA three times now the best I've managed so far is around 88% completion). One slight niggle is that a few of these side games only become available quite late on, by which time you have been going solid for a couple of months and just want to see the end game. And like many other games that combine the campaign with free play once you reach the end, the desire to go back and finish up the odds and ends tends to diminish.
The difficulty level varies - there are a couple of missions where you can very nearly get stuck. Often it is just a case of taking a different approach or perhaps going into the side missions and levelling up a required skill (e.g. driving ability). The very first mission can catch you out if not prepared, whereas some missions later on are relative no brainers. Of course, once you've played a few times, read the FAQ's, studied the guide and maps things do get easier. The missions are quite linear and always play out the same way and there are no sidesteps or alternative paths to victory - you must pass all the main story missions to see the end game.
As stated in other reviews, the "gangsta", "rappa" culture can be a bit off-putting but once the game hooks you it falls into the context of the overall story. It's role play, after all. Parents be warned - even without the infamous "Hot Coffee" mod, the 18 rating on this title means what it says. The swearing, violence and adult references are relentless throughout the game. Even if you avoid un-necessary slaughter, just to finish the story you will have killed several hundred people including police/FBI officers, soldiers and ordinary citizens in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Although SA struggled a bit on lower end PC's when first released, three years on the average PC eats it for breakfast. The beauty and depth of the game can really be appreciated on a machine with Dual Core CPU and 8800GT graphics card. There are a few little glitches - when it rains all other sounds are masked - but I have never encountered any serious crashes or issues with the titles.
In crafting GTA: San Andreas, developers Rockstar created something close to a work of genius for the gaming hobby. Even their own studio couldn't better it with the next instalment in the series, the rather mundane GTA4 It has a few issues, has courted considerable controversy but it's not so much a game as an immersive experience.
Buy it, play it and love it!
"DO NOT BUY", Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is one of my favorite games, but this page clearly states they are selling the 1st edition(the mod-able one), but I received the 2nd edition.
"just like PS2", I bought this for my laptop so I can take the game with me on the road, since I am a GTA addict. With the money to be able to play in hotel rooms and airplanes!
"Uninspired", Quite frankly, this game sucks. The graphics are ugly, the controls horrible, the characters unsympathetic, the cities labyrinthine, the story repetitive, the language foul and the workmanship lacking. It's obviously a cashcow and as such an epitome of mediocrity. The only good thing is the huge size of the landscape. The food is bad, but such big portions...
This game is just not user-friendly. Just about every irritating mistake that could have been made was made, especially in the controls. This game is *slow*, all the controls are constantly lagging. That's what got to me the most in the end. And my machine is capable enough, it runs Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. without problems.
A pity, because this game could have been so much better. Rockstar, please, don't use braindead programmers and uninspired designers next time.
"Big Boys", This is the version you should be playing,Hot Coffe,it was made for the Big Boys,i just love it

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Take it to the edge, no where to hide, call up the boys lets go for a joyride", I'd only ever played GTA and GTA2 and a brief demo of GTA London before this and all I can say about this version is WHOAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
This is an awsome game! Now with a story line about CJ, who is someone who's come back to San Andreas cause his mother was killed and the rival gangs have taken over, so he's back to help...blah blah...
about the gameplay. It's so awsome, the game is so huge, in a 3D world of SA you can find so much to do that you forget easily that you are supposed to be doing missions. From being able to take whatever car, bike, boat, planes, helicopter and various other stuff to finding weaopens ranging from your fist, brass knuckles and knives to flame throwers, uzi's, mini guns and even adult sex toys!!! The streets run with all different kinds of people from the rich to the homeless and even hookers that you can actualy have a laugh with by buying there services!
The area is huge, and i mean HUGE! If you dont beleive me that it's huge then check out the game then and you will be amazed just how big it all is! Ranging from the city streets, suburbs, hood, country, desert and so much more. If they where to make this game look just like the streets of your own locoation where you live, youd be amazed at how well the area in this is.
And whats even better is you can download mods for the game and put your own cars and things into it. So I've been loving flying around the neighbourhood in a Back To The Future Delorean and i'm still trying to work out where the heck the mod for the General Lee and KITT (Knightrider) are.
This game sure has come such a long way from just an ariel 2D game. I never even through a game like this was possible untill i saw how well they have made this one. It's like nothing ive ever played before.
Filled with hidden goodies, cheats, secrets and even side games. Like, say for instance, you eneter a casino, you can actualy play the slot machines in a side game. As well as gambling games like a horse race, video games of different kinds. And if that wasnt enough, there is even bonus races you can find int he game, things like a Gokart race, Stock Car racing and so much more.
I've only had this game 2 days and im this impressed with it already and there is so much more i havent even discovered about this game yet. If anyone finds they dont like this game, you need your head read, or maybe you just need some cheats and codes to stay alive or fly around or something. I dont know how anyone could say this game isnt good, apart from those people who dont like cuss words or voilence... well, turn the audio off and dont hit anyone.
Man, you can even go shopping for food and cloths in this or just hang out at the strip club and pay for a lap dance. This game has become so much more then just hijacking cars and doing hit jobs. I mustve played for 18 hours straight without even bothering to see what any of the missions where. Just exploring the game is entertaining enough.
Also the music is great, there is so many tracks been put into the game, and not unknown songs either, songs from Jerry Reed, Guns N Roses, Faith No More, Ice T and so many other artists and then you can also just use your own mp3's as well!!
An amazing game, and i say that knowing I havent even begone to see whats inside of this game!
GOURANGA
"Fun, fun and more fun!", Awesome game, loads of fun. All a guy needs: Women, Money, Cars, Power (not necessarily in that order :-))
"Overall a great game, but with a few additions I could do without", The GTA series has created a new thresshold in video games. With creation of GTA 3, games became increasingly more violent and more controversal. San Andreas is no exception.
If this game did not bear the GTA tag, I probably would have rated it higher, but needless to say, I'm a bit disappointed with what rockstar did with this addition to the GTA series. Previous GTAs all had a quirky jab at political and social icons (particularly conversation political and social icons). San Andreas had this, but to a much lesser extent which disappointed me.
Another thing which disappointed me about this game was the RPG-like system they put into it. Your accuracy is determined by how often you practice, rather than the players ablity to shoot. Also, unlike previous GTAs, you must now press a button and slow your walking speed down to manually aim and fire a gun. I HATED this change in the gameplay. This severely limits your ablity to go on rampages, and forces you to use their god-awful auto aim system. If they had not added this function to the game, I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more.
That being said, there were PLENTY of things I enjoyed about this game. First off, I enjoyed the new depth theyve added to missions. Previously missions were as followed: Kill this, blow up that, run way from these guys, and avoid cops. Missions in this game actually feel like Rockstar put a lot of time into each individual objective. One Mission that particularly comes to mind is the mission where you hop on a plane, have a small shootout on the INSIDE of the vehicle, then fly to liberty cities (a location that you cannot travel to normally) and assassinate some crime bosses. Little things like this show the extra effort the designers put into the game.
Another thing I enjoyed about this game is that it is more challengeing than previous GTAs. The very last mission will have you cussing like mad if you havent achieved fire proofing from the firetruck missions. This game is designed at a skill level for someone who has been playing GTA a long time.
Also the map is friggin huge! Its about 3 times the size of your regular GTA game. However, unlike previous GTAs, its not packed with little goodies and have special jumps at every corner. Its still fun to explore every corner of the map in this game though.
So now for the break down of my review
Pros -Incredibly large map -Challengeing -More new vehicles to hijack -An overall improvement on the missions -Plenty of extra features -GANG WARS -Good voice acting
The Cons -New style of shooting is a huge hinderance -Areas are not as packed with goodies as before -Fewer political cheap shots than SA's predcisours
Overall I would give this game a 8 out of 10 in comparison to video games everywhere, but only 4 out of 10 when compared to its predecesors (5 being average).
One other note: If you have an ATI Radeon x700 you may encounter some problems playing this game (not with lag, but with actually loading the game).
"here is somethin' you can't understand...", Not really being into the original GTA III (and its birds-eye-view predecessors), I became unfortunately addicted to to San Andreas. The game play is absorbing and the storyline and cinematics are, despite the dated graphics, engaging. Maybe the most impressive aspect of the entire game is the impressive cinematic scene voice acting, which makes you forget about some of the jerky animations.
The game play is free-ranging, but if you don't pursue the main storyline missions (which are linear, but multiple storylines let you pursue them in any priority) the gratuitous violence you can commit is ultimately unrewarding and difficult to get away with (as it should be). The moral criticisms of the game include being able to randomly assault innocent bystanders without repurcussions, but for the most part, there are repurcussions if nearby police see you doing so. My criticism would be that there are not enough repurcussions for street violence, because it would certainly make that aspect of the game more challenging. If you go on a rampage in a local store, the clerks don't try to call the police or evade. They instead just take a beating or a bullet. The AI of some of the rival gangs is a little clumsy too, as they will simply start shooting at you if they see your colors, despite the presence of squad cars or bike cops across the street. The cops in San Andreas are corrupt, but not that corrupt.
GTA SA definitely feels like a ported title rather than a game developed for PC. Some of the interface and in-game menus are awkward and designed to be PS2 gamepad friendly. Saving the game is a bit of a pain as well, since you have to retreat to your "safe-house" to save everytime.
A fun and engrossing game for adults, but let this be known: if you let your under-18 child play this game, you are an awful parent and deserve to have social services come and whisk your precious babies away. Aside from the violence, San Andreas is rife with profanity and innuendo, and is probably not really suitable for anyone under 40. There is no "safe" mode or low-gore level for this game like some other titles (while the game is overly violent, gore is minimal anyway).
"Same GTA with some RPG touches", As one might suspect GTA: San Adreas has the classic anarchist fun with insane driving, guns galore and a lawless protagonist, and a linear storyline. Let's be honest though; nobody buys GTA to JUST play the mission part and in fact I have a hard time getting into the missions. In San Andreas there is an even larger area of gameplay and a few other cities to explore once you have advanced in the game (unless you want to cheat). The clear aspect that sets this game apart from the previous ones is the depth of gameplay. Haircuts and tattoos are available for purchase. You have various parts of your character that can be built up--fat, hunger, muscle, driving skill, weapon skill etc. Obviously when you get fat you need to run around and eat when hungry. The others are self explanatory.
Some new and rather interesting vehicles ave been added to this game. The hydra, which is a harrier type jet, the stunt plane, an attack helicopter, a four wheeler, a parachute, and my favorite--the jetpack. Other than that the game is like each created before it from GTA 3 on. The graphics even on a fairly modern computer still leave much to be desired. Whatever engine they use is clearly the same as GTA 3. Animation on the other hand is very natural and realistic. Music from the radio stations is lackluster, but I believe it is possible to use your own music instead.
As a computer game San Adreas' controls at the very least awkward because of the sheer number of actions that can be done. In the worst case scenario--the hydra--however using a keyboard to fly the plane is downright nerveracking. If you want to shoot something below you, be sure to compensate by a couple of seconds, not because it moves fast but because you need that time to angle the nose of the plane in that direction. I, myself use an xbox controller which has an adapter to use the USB port on the computer. Even with that it is not much better and you still need the D-pad to make decent turns. As you can tell this is my biggest qualm with the game. Overall Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has a lot to offer if you don't have a regular gaming console but that is compensated by the clumsy keyboard controls. I would rate it a 7 out of 10.
