"waste of money"
I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a red octane pad (3.0, the 2.0 is no longer being sold, what a pity) for a DDR party I was hosting at my college. My friends raved about it and he's had his for over two years, but working like new. Sadly, when I tested these pads on standard and heavy songs, the back button started malfunctioning, responding to any slight pressure on the pad, no matter where it was pressed. It sometimes wouldn't register and then fire off automatically. The pad is virtually useless now, try to find a different pad, the 2.0 pad was far superior but the 3.0's problem is the raised buttons, when those get bent in any fashion, the sensors get screwy.

"Stuck buttons"
I've own 2 RedOctane 3.0 dance pads for a little over half a year. They were great while they lasted but recently some buttons started to get stuck. At first only 1 pad would malfunction and the down arrow would sometimes not respond while other times automatically repeat itself. A week later, the 2nd pad started to have the same problem, but with the right arrow.

I'm a little pissed considering I paid almost $100 for each of these pads, when I could've gotten a generic foam pad for a quarter of the price. Even if those pads aren't as reliable, I could have 4 for each RedOctane pad and I'm pretty sure those would last at least 1.5 months each.

All in all, I'm rather dissatisfied with the product. I've heard horror stories of people trying to contact support, plus they only have a 60 day warranty limit.

"RedOctane Ignition 3.0"
I bought a RedOctane Ignition 3.0 (a later version of this dancepad), and have never had the opportunity to use it. The dancepad is supposed to be used with several connectors, including USB to connect to a PC. After attempting to connect this dancepad for hours, I sent emails to RedOctane asking them to send me drivers to properly install the dancepad. RedOctane replied to two emails, telling me that their dancepads are "PlugnPlay" and do not require drivers, and that I should update my BIOS and make sure my computer had all its updates. My computer is up to date, and upon plugging this Dancepad into 4 different computers I could still not get it to work. I called Dell customer support, and also spent time with another computer company, who both told me the same thing. PlugnPlay does not mean that a device doesn't need a driver!!! Almost every device to come out in the past ten years is PlugnPlay, which means that you do not have to turn off the computer for the computer to recognize the device. I called RedOctane and told them this (I had to search for the phone number on the web), and they told me they couldn't help me, that their product should play automatically. I was shocked. I have never seen so little commitment from a company to their product before. They offer no customer support for their products, and do not stand behind their dancepads at all. After research the problem on the internet, I found that many people have had this problem. This dancepad is not worth the trouble, nor is any RedOctane device. Save your money.

"Same problem as most people with the thing!"
DO Not Buy!!!!!!!

After reading the reviews for the pad I took a leap and bought the pad anyway even after reading the last review saying that the pad did work. I was highly recommended this pad from stepmania.com and since the stuff I bought that they recommended before worked I went ahead reassured. I set the pad up after recieving it and plugged it into my usb in my computer and started to play but when I did the arrows didn't respond at hardly at all cause at times I would step on a arrow and it would work then for the majority of a round of the game nothing happened. I tried the pad in my ps2 and the arrows responded very well except the start button would not work. I am upset and aggravated all I want to do it play ddr on a pad not on the keyboard anymore!

What our customer's say!

"Perfect Pad", Perfect pad, I had it for 3 years beats the v2. Its just amazing. Works perfectly with stepmania.

"Good, but Surprisingly Fragile", This pad has served me pretty well for the last eight months or so, but it's reached the end of its usefulness. I bought my pad at the end of the summer of 2007 and brought it with me for two college semesters in Montreal. I put it together for the first time upon arriving. Immediately, the "X" button refused to work properly, but this wasn't a big problem. After the first few weeks, one of the zippers holding the pad around its foam insert snapped off for unknown reasons. A few days later, the second zipper bent a bit, but managed to stay intact. The pad itself continued to function without any real issues as I used it for an hour at an average of every two or three days.

Towards the end of the second semester, I began to notice issues with the down directional arrow. I unzipped the one working zipper and took the pad home a few weeks later, at which point everything began to go rapidly downhill. Upon reassembling the foam pad at home, the second zipper broke off of the cover (on what was only its fourth use). At the same time, the zipper itself began to rip apart. The issue with the down arrow quickly worsened, and I soon found that the real issue was with the left arrow, which was simultaneously activating the left and down directions. Like some of the other reviewers, I took a look inside and found that the material beneath the left arrow had torn, but other than that, there was no clear indication that there was any problem that could be fixed. The pad is now basically unusable.

While the pad itself worked quite well for nearly eight months, the fact that it showed so many other issues early on disappoints me. I was lucky with my pad, but any of those early issues could easily have been a faulty arrow instead. Although it performed a bit more effectively than the flat pads I had been using, it wasn't really worth the price I paid. Be sure to get a lengthy warranty if you want to buy one of these pads because, in all honesty, a pad like this should be able to last for at least a year. I'm not sure if any of them actually can.

"Absolute Booty-Shakin' Bliss", For all the problems that others are experiencing, you got a bad pad. I love these pads so much I bought three over the last few years and they all still work. Bottom line is, you will not find a better way to play DDR than this dance pad. I am truly sorry that you all were negatively effected by faulty equipment.

If you want to play DDR, do so on a RedOctane Ignition.

"Wtf", I thought I would be the only one whose RedOctane pad effed up but I guess not. My left button hardly ever responds after only a couple days of play; noticed the problem on the FIRST day I got it.

The foam platform and raised steps idea is exactly what DDRers need, but this doesn't function correctly at all. They almost got the right idea but really messed up. Don't get it.

"Works Great for Me", I'm sorry to see so many other reviewers have had trouble with this game pad, since mine has always worked perfectly. We've had ours for 6 or 8 months now, and I use it almost every day and have never had an issue with it. Of course, I don't wear shoes when playing, so maybe that has something to do with it... Anyway, we've tried other higher-end pads, and this one is far superior. The buttons are super sensitive, so you don't have to stomp to get them to register, and the firm padding is wonderful for bare feet. I'm actually in the process of buying another one, since my husband and I always fight over who gets to play on the "good" pad!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Not Reliable", This review is for the Ignition 3.0 pad. Being new to DDR I thought I was just really bad at hitting the down arrow. Wrong. The pad was bad almost right away and steadily has gotten worse. Now when I have the pad plugged in and start up a DDR game the menus are cycling like crazy and I can't get the game started. Too bad I didn't realize the problem was the pad and not me before the 60 day warranty ran out. Now I am looking for a new pad, but I am not going with Red Octane again.

"Complete Waste of Money", I got the Ignition 3.0 this afternoon and thought it was great. I was getting high scores and the pad was responding really well. But then I tried it later in the same day and the sensors had already shifted down and the arrows stopped responding. There's no way to fix it and I'm going to try to return it tomorrow. It's unbelievable that this product only lasted a few hours.

"Poor quality control on the Ignition 3.0", We're about to return our third RedOctane Ignition 3.0 to Best Buy. I'm glad that I didn't order this unit directly from RedOctane. The 3.0 version either malfunctions or its button pads (which raise the arrows slightly) start slipping to the center of the pad. RedOctane has really messed-up on the 3.0. If you must buy it, then get it at a retailer that has a solid return policy and test the unit extensively. If it shows any flaws within the return period, take it back immediately.

"Had mine for 2 years now...", I've been reading about a lot of problems with these, but I've had mine 2 years now, and it responds rather well still, and I'm an avid player.
I do have some problems with it responding when I stand in the middle, but very few problems otherwise. This is even with having my little sisters and cousins stomping away on it. The layer inside is slightly torn, but it doesn't seem to cause any real problems.
Once this pad wears out, I will gladly buy another one.

By the way... People complain that the pads break, but if you played in the arcade, you'd know that they need to replace parts in the machines once or twice a year. Unfortunantly, with these, the parts are not really replacable, so they give you a 20% discount and you can buy a new one.

Have fun and dance on!

"Buy if and only if you like playing the lottery.", For most people, this pad breaks after a week or two.
For me, it was broken after less than one day.
For 1/100 people, it works like a charm and is the best pad they've ever owned.

So don't believe anything you hear about "this pad is amazing!", unless you like playing the lottery, which is what buying this pad is.
