"DO NOT PAY $199.99" This is the perfect gem for any gamer... but it should not cost more than $30!!!! This is the biggest rip off I've ever witnessed. They sell on store shelves for $20-$30 bucks at wal-mart and Target.
DO NOT BUY IT FOR $199.99. YOU CAN FIND BRAND NEW ONES ON EBAY FOR THE REAL PRICE!
"Could have been better." I was planning on buying an old original 2600 off eBay till I learned of this little gem. It's half the size of the original console with 40 games built right in, and it's cheap. But there are enough drawbacks to make me wish I'd gone my original route.
1. Although this console includes many of my childhood favorites (Adventure, Combat, Yar's Revenge, Pitfall and River Raid) it left out some very obvious choices that were hugely popular in the day (Pac Man, Defender, Space Invaders, Frogger and Pole Position to name a few) and replaced them with some rather lame games that I've never heard of before and got bored with very quickly. One of them, Frog Pond, is an unreleased prototype. Your going for nostalga here, now's not the time to be breaking new ground with your customer base.
2. It lacks a cartridge slot. I've never counted them all, but I'm sure there have been over 1,000 games made for this system. Everyone has an obscure favorite, and it would have been great if we had the option of using this system to play them.
3. Several games wouldn't work or were full of bugs. I've counted 3 so far, and I haven't cycled thru them all yet.
4. Some of the games are watered down departures from the originals. The version of Asteroids on this system had terrible graphics (even by Atari 2600 standards) and I was not once assaulted by a UFO.
So overall I applaud the concept, but I believe it could have been a whole lot better with relatively minimal effort. It smacks of a rush job.
"atari flashback" i actually bought this for my 78 year old grandmother who is always at home bored! we hooked it up to her tv, my kids showed her how to play, and she loves it! when we call, she is usually too busy playing games to talk! when we come over to visit, the kids have games to play, they love it too! this is an all ages game system, very easy to opperate, and many games to choose from to keep you entertained!
"Atari Flashback" I bought this for my husband for Christmas, he loved the concept but, it only has a few games that he likes.
"Gift" I got this item as a christmas gift for my grandparents, they play it almost every day for about an hour. It is easy to hook up to your TV and it's the same great games I use to play when I was little and over at my grandparents house untill the atari they had broke. This system brings back a lot of memories and starts new ones.

What our customer's say!
"this product does not work. Atari should be ashamed!!", The Atari Flashback2 product does not work. Many of the games do not work at all. For the games that do work, they do not work correctly. The Atari company should be ashamed for putting such a bad product on the market.
And for the people who gave this prudct a rating 4 or 5 you should be ashamed of yourselves. Why would you want to mislead people like that.
Please do yourself a favor and do not buy this Atari product.
"a riot", So much fun to play the old games! My only issue is that you have to turn it off and then back on to change games. And where's Frogger????
"Incredible little device", Ah, the things they do with technology these days. The Flashback 2.0 isn't just an emulator - these aren't half-hearted recreations of the games you remember. Inside this device is an actual miniaturized Atari 2600 - the entire hunk of circuitry from 1977, squeezed onto a single chip. So when you plug in the Flashback 2.0, you're playing the actual games on actual hardware. Incredible, no?
I love this thing. For half the cost of a modern console game you get an entire game system, 42 games, and two controllers for some serious head-to-head action. Never mind that the graphics and sounds are 30 years old. This system delivers pure, unadultered, score-driven 1980s nostalgia.
Unfortunately, I don't remember most of these games. That's because the library is about half classics, and half unreleased/homebrew/prototype games. Too bad, because I'm really missing out on my favorite Atari games here: where's my Pole Position? I would have much preferred to see more classics and less novelties. (The included secret Paddle Games are a nice touch, though.) On this basis I'll give 4 stars for Fun.
The real reason I love the Flashback 2.0, though, and why I give it 5 stars: Crack it open, and you'll notice a silkscreened table showing pin connections to solder pads. These are handy instructions on how to add a cartridge slot to your game system! Now, the circuitry isn't perfect, so there are some 2600 games that won't run, but compatibility lists are available online. It's a great way to play all your games again without fiddling with crusty old technology and RF hookups.
In short: Buy one! The old classics never die, and what better way to experience them again than by playing them on real hardware? For under $30, 40+ games is a steal. And if you're handy with a soldering iron (or know someone who is), it's a great and inexpensive way to add a new game system to your collection.
"DO MOT WASTE YOUR MONEY,PLEASE", NOT WORTH THE MONEY ,,IF YOU WILLING TO PAY MORE THAN 25 DOLLARS OR UP ,FREEZES UP SOMETIMES, YOU CAN'T BROWSE BACKWARD THROUGH THE GAME LIST,,EVERYTIME YOU CHOOSE A GAME AND DECIDE TO SWITCH TO OTHER ONE YOU HAVE TO TURN THE WHOLE THING OFF AND ON AGAIN TO GET TO ANOTHER GAME ,,180 DOLLARS FOR SUCH A THING ,,MAKE YOU FEEL ASHAMED OF YPURSELF WHEN YOU PLUGG INTO TV ?????
"Brings back the 'good old days ,,,", .. when Atari games were easier to operate and play yet still be challenging for the entire family.

"ahh...memories.....", this thing is almost a dream come true. I remember wasting so many precious hours of my childhood on the atari game system. I think the atari flashback is big step towards redefining what REAL gaming is. The games present on this machine are tough...some are even bone crunching hard (caverns of mars, missle command and atari climber to name a few) and rather limited I might add. While I love the inclusion of Adventure and Pitfall (even the addition of Adventure 2 and haunted house 2 is a nice touch), I still find myself flipping past game after game that fails to hold me captive by its gameplay. Sure, these games are suppose to be challengin, but when the object of the game is obsure and I'm fumbling around with no guidance on what to do, I'm left reseting and trying the next game out only to findout that it's the same deal. Another thing is the reseting itself. If I want to change games I have to turn off the machine and turn it back on. Maybe in future releases of flashbacks Atari will include a "menu" button. I think the addition of certain titles such as stampede, barnstorming, freeway, journey escape, frogger and warlords might boost the appeal of the flashback as those games had a higher replay value than most fot he ones listed. Other than that, I'm enjoying the selection overall, which includes river raid, battle tank, combat, pong (gotta love pong!) and caverns of mars. In all, it's worth a purchase and a welcome sight to a market saturated with over complicated button configurations and painstaking real life graphics that suck out all manner of imagination within the human mind's potential. I find it's a treasure that will be passed down in my house to show my kids what real gaming is all about.
"Not like the original", This Atari is smaller than the original and is very convenient to store and hook up. The games are all programmed in which saves the hassle of changing game cartridges. The games themselves don't seem to be the quality of the original, and several will not load. Maybe it's because I'm older now but they don't seem as fun as they used to. It's certainly worth the money, especially if you have little kids to share them with.
"Perfect recreation of a classic!", This game is a perfect recreation of the original Atari VCS 2600, right down to the last atom. You can even put a cartridge port on it to turn it into a fully-fledged Atari console! You have to get it!
"The best Atari system ever!", This is a great system! Don't listen to the other reviewers who say this is bad, it is awesome! They rated it bad just because it is based on an old console, or because it was broken when they received it. There is nothing bad about this, and now I will prove it...
The joysticks are comfortable, and are very similar to the joysticks used on the Atari 2600. It is compatible with the Atari 2600 joysticks as well! It also comes with 2 joysticks, unlike other consoles that only come with 1. If you happen to have a pair of Atari 2600 Paddle Controllers, plug them into your Atari Flashback 2 and you'll be able to play 2 hidden games; Super Breakout and Warlords. Do this by pressing up on the joystick 1 time, pull down 9 times, push up 7 times, and pull down 2 times, when it shows a new menu, plug in the paddle controllers.
Unlike many others, the Atari Flashback 2 comes with 40 built in games for hours of fun. 20 of them are Atari 2600 games, and the other 20 games are cancelled Atari 2600 games. These are some of the greatest classics of all time like Pong, Centipede, Asteroids, Missile Command, Pitfall, etc. A description of each game is included in the manual that comes with the system.
Overall, this is a great system for playing fun classics with your friends. It is only $30.00, while all of the other systems are hundreds of dollars. This is a great system to get if you like classics.
"Not impressed", I brought this product because it reminded me of my childhood, however, this product functioned as if it were made in the 70's. The joysticks were slow and the games advertised were not featured. I was not impressed.
