"Wonderful", Can't say enough for it. There is so much good work items in it that you probably will never touch them all. I've had every updated issue from issue 5 on up. They have been consistrantly excelant.

"Great product", I've been a Photoshop user since Version 3 and this upgrade is worth every penny. I upgraded from version 7 and CS2 is clearly a step up. Upgrading was a no-brainer. The only negative is Adobe Bridge - I prefer the file browser that PS 7 had but I can live with it.

The floating image windows is also a nice touch - you are no longer confined to the PS main window.

All of my add-ons worked perfectly including FITS Liberator and the PTLENS suite.

"Ripped Off ", I paid top dollar for PS7 and thought it was time to upgrade to CS2. After I installed CS2 I discovered that I could not crop any photo without having my PC crash. Every time it crashed I looked at the defrag utility and I had fragmented files all over the place. Then I defraged the hard drive and went back to CS2 and tried to crop the same photo again. Again, my PC hung up and was unresponsive and the defrag utility said I had to defrag. The only thing I did was to crop one photo in CS2, and that was enough to make it necessary to defrag again. I uninstalled this piece of garbage from my PC. It does not work, and I don't care what Deke McClelland says and I don't believe what he says, either. Save your money. These rip-off artists at Adobe are nothing but thieves. Yeah, they ripped me off for $153 but you know what? At least I have my integrity, and that's more than you got, Deke baby.



"Upgrade from 5.5: a disappointment", The new look is very nice.

BUT, when you install, you have also to keep the previous version (in well behaved software, automatically the previous version is cleaned... not here).

The system of validation of License through Internet for the physical machine is fine, I just hope that I will not have a disk crash and then waste time to be authorised to re-install a product that I rightfully paid (and at such a price).

Well, make sure you:
- do not try to de-install 5,5 after the install of CS2 (or bye-bye the license)
- have a clean and robust backup of your installation....

I am not sure I will make the next upgrade....


"adobe photoshop cs2 upgrade", This upgrade installed easily with my Photoshop 5.5. No problems at all. This is an excellent program and leap years ahead of my Photoshop 5.5. This is a much less expensive way to upgrade to cs2..rather than purchasing CS2 outright.

Be sure to get the updates after you install the program.

"Aside from License Manager, this is THE photo/imaging editing software", I concur with the review that points up the problems with Adobe's new "license manager" method of activation. When you pay as much as you do for this app, or the entire suite, you should not be faced with complete lockup should you have hardware problems, or can't connect to the Internet from "location shooting." I took one star off for this egregious marketing tactic.

That said, this version of Photoshop is superb, an otherwise 5-star app. If you take the time to use the tutorials included in the help (used to be separate folders, with chapters 1 - 4 of the Classroom In A Book, but no more alas), or get one of Deke McClelland's fine tomes and do all the lessons, there is nothing in this app that the novice can't start to use from Day One. With today's point & shoot cameras packing more resolution, and more manual control, into their functions, use of Photoshop becomes more than just a hobby. You can really "rescue" photos that are too dark, too bright, exceedingly color-shifted, from the "cut" folder and still make prints. Further, the Camera RAW functionality allows anyone with a sufficiently functional digicam to touch up snapshots into fine photography.

A warning: you need the fastest processor you can afford (a Core Duo or Quatro will be superb), and as much RAM as your system can take. There is an optional performance plug-in which maximizes performance on systems with more than 1 Gigabyte of RAM. You need AT LEAST that much under Windows XP to get good performance out of PS CS2. If you can use 2GB or more dual-channel memory, that's even better (the dual-channel RAM adds a small boost when handling large file sizes, e.g. Camera RAW image sources). If you don't have these, don't expect Photoshop to act fast.

Adobe Bridge is a major improvement for this version. It offers superior file and image management functions, and can even do batch editing on images. You can even perform Camera RAW adjustments right from Bridge. Bridge can perform batch processes WHILE YOU EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP. If that isn't cool, I don't know what is. If you doubt me, check out Deke McClelland's PHOTOSHOP CS2 ONE-ON-ONE tutorial for his chapter on using Adobe Bridge. His video introduction (included on a DVD in the book), and chapter on using and customizing Bridge, are terrific introductions.

If you're a user of versions 5.x (as I was), 6, or 7, upgrading to CS2 is a no-brainer. Don't wait. Get it now before the Adobe License Manager gets worse in 2007.

"Change the incorrect product description NOW", Amazon should change the product description of Adobe PhotoShop Upgrade ASAP. Maybe this is the text they got from Adobe, but any way you look at it, it is false advertising.

This incorrect description of the product has affected so many people, something should be done about it. Adobe should be made to pay, or provide additional software that will make the upgrade work with "ANY VERSION" as they say.

"Just the Very Best", I have used Photoshop versions 5 all the way through 7. I just downloaded CS2. I followed the simple stps and it is now up and running on my desktop. I read some bad reviews, but I had no problems at all. I find it to be a solid program and since I made this change to help in using lightroom, the new bridge will be of great value to me.

"Good product. Takes LOTS of horsepower though.....", I can understand about the speed and performance issues listed by some reviewers. About a month after upgrading to CS2 my 2.4GHz 1.5GB RAM workstation fried its motherboard. Forced to replace, I am now running a Pentium D with 4GB RAM. This allows me to dedicate the max of 1.7GB to Photoshop and wow! The difference is amazing! Between the increased RAM and the SATA drives all the speed issues went away. Just looked at the specs on the box; can't imagine what Adobe was thinking with these. 384MB recommended? I am surprised that CS2 will even open with that little RAM. I was slow with 1.5GB! It definitely sucks up your resources!

My 5400 dpi 16 bit scans are huge so I still run into performance issues when stitching several images together or when trying to use the new HDR merge. In fact, I cannot use the HDR merge on scanned images at all, even if I only use 8 bit images. This was one of my main reasons to upgrade from CS; very disappointing. It turns out that scans are not consistent enough (placement of image elements) in the analog-to-digital conversion and therefore do not line up correctly. The feature that offers to try aligning the images for you takes too much RAM to run without crashing. It may work if I lower my resolution but that tends to defeat the purpose of making a high-quality scan.

Speaking of upgrades, absolutely painless. Upgraded the main workstation; no problem. Had to re-install after the crash so I just put the CS2 Upgrade disk in and all it asked for along the way was to `see' an older version. Again, no problems at all. Upgraded my laptop, once again... no problems at all. It seems that the reviewers with problems are mostly upgrading significantly older versions (or sometimes different products altogether); a practice I view as inherently risky for any software application or operating system. Eventually it catches up with you.....

Regarding Bridge, I have to say I am not wild about it but it works OK. It certainly did not discourage me from upgrading my version of Extensis Portfolio. If possible, I would give the whole upgrade 3.5 stars. Works well but really takes a lot of horsepower to run fast and gets expensive to keep upgrading every 1.5 years.

"Beware!", As everyone else here stated, I too bought it after only owning PSE 3.0. After going through some hoops I ended up with a perfectly fine registered copy and it was worth the risk for me! Just to again repeat everyone else here, this is a total misrepresentation of what the product is. Unless you are willing to go through a little bit of work to get it up and running, I would suggest not purchasing it unless you have PS 5.5 or higher.
