"AWESOME GAME!!"
I have twin boys 4 1/2 years old and they LOVE this game. Sometimes they need my help through the really hard scenes but once they see how it's done they can replay it and do it themselves. They've earned their way and now have all the characters and the love to play in Free Play mode and toggle though the people and the fun never stops. Runs great on my iMac 20" G5 2 GHZ with 1GB Ram. Get this and also get Lego's Star Wars II: Original Trilogy!!!!

"Addictive game!"
My 6-year-old son, who is a Star Wars fanatic, paid for this game with his allowance money. With it being the most expensive item he's ever purchased (it took him a long time to save up for it), it sure has taught him the value of saving! HE LOVES IT! Obsessed. We have to set a timer; otherwise, he'd play all day! :)

He's familiar with various scenes from the movies, and this game does a really great job of re-creating those scenes. It's amazing how many different challenges he has to work through; it never gets old. Also, the game allows him to save so that he comes back to where he left off in his journeys. Also, he gets some daddy time, as my husband really likes playing, too. It's even fun for me to just sit and watch him/them play, very entertaining. VERY CUTE!

"Lego Star Wars - kids love it"
I purchased this for my 6 year old who loves Legos and Star Wars. It has been a huge hit. After he plays the game he then likes to go build all the stuff he saw in the game. So it actually makes him use his brain a bit! I play with him as well and it makes me feel like a kid. Nice work.

"Great game for kids"
My eight year old was asking for this game for the longest time. It's great because it's not a violent game. He can get points and change into dfferent characters. He can't wait for Start Wars II for the Mac.

"Will NOT work on an Intel Mac Mini"
Buyer beware that this product will not work on an intel mac mini. This is not noted anywhere on the Aspyr website.

"Workaround for problem with OS X install to non-admin users", [Copied here from a blog post of mine as this will be of interest to any OS X user buying this game]

I really dislike buying desktop computer games. The software quality is poor, and the vendor support is usually lousy.

Unfortunately my 9yo prefers Mac games to Wii games, so when he's earned a big incentive for overcoming a real challenge, we end up with another OS X game.

It's just as well there are so few of them.

The latest problem came with Aspyr's Lego Star Wars (DVD) (Mac) (2005). After I'd installed it my son couldn't play. It started up oddly, with a long video loop. A key press produced a gray screen, then the loop resumed. Finally it crashed.

So what was the problem? There's nothing like this on the Aspyr site and the only update patch is a long delayed and apparently troublesome fix supporting native execution on Intel Macs. I was running the game on my PPC G5 Mac.

I suspected a security/privileges bug. Game vendors, who usually outsource development to very junior engineers in international markets, rarely bother with security models. They build to the usual XP assumption (everyone runs as admin) then port the game to OS X.

Sure enough, from my admin account the game worked. I suspect the game tries to write to the Application folder. That's a no-no. Non-admin users on my system, including my usual account, don't have write privileges in the global Application folder.

I could have reinstalled to the user-specific application folder, but then the other kid accounts on the family machine would need their own installs. Since Leopard gives more control over permissions, I could have installed in a folder that everyone could write to.

In our case though I have an external drive with open space. OS X doesn't enforce permissions on external drives, so after installing there everyone could use it.

PS. On my G5 the game defaulted to lowest resolution. I set it to the penultimate resolution and it worked find and looked MUCH better.

"Great game", |My son loves this game. It works well with Mac. I like the game because it is good clean fun.

"Welcome, Daddy, to the World of Electronic Gaming...", I bought my little boy the Lego Star Wars II (original trilogy) game to play on our IMac (the all-white one with the Intel Core Duo processor). I checked into the system requirements, asked a lot of questions, and even had extra RAM installed to assure that it would work. He loved it, but I (mostly my hands) got tired of playing using the keyboard. So, I purchased two Mad Cat controllers at the Apple store, went home, and the thing cranked away happily. I figured I'd never have to resort to keyboarding again.

I then purchased Lego Star Wars I. I figured it would work on my machine as-is, but, a day or so after we began playing, the controllers stopped working. I called Aspyr, and was told the controllers I have aren't supported by the game; there's a list of supported controllers in the ReadMe file on the disk.

I know this game was actually released first, so maybe the later, original trilogy game is compatible with more hardware (eg, the Mat Cat controllers). I thought the controllers would be OK because they seemed to work with my machine and operating system. I didn't realize the game software could reject them.

All this wouldn't matter so much were it not for the fact that we can't progress past a point midway through the third "movie," where we try and try to jump up and shoot General Grievous, but the keyboard buttons don't seem to be able to do it. I've researched the walk-throughs and tips on the internet without success, and I'm not about to spend $40 or more for another pair of controllers just to get a better shot at General Grievous. If anyone has any ideas re: how to get past this, I'd love to hear your comments.

I don't know whether Aspyr is to blame for all of this or what, but it's been an expensive lesson about the level of detail and checking I'll need to go through next time I want to purchase a game for my IMac. Probably the moral of the story is, Play ball outside with your kid.

"Great game for all ages", If you'd like a game that you can play with your young child at the same time this is a great one. My son is four years old and he absolutely loves this. Characters never die so you can play as long as you like. It also has challenges for the adults. It's cute while also action packed. Clearly, this is not a game for the hardcore gamer but a lot of good fun.

"way too much", When you first open up the game it is a thrill. THe kids love identifying their favorite characters and the sounds are the genuine article straight from the movie's soundtrack. But the game gets complex quickly and the frustration level soon rises. Add to that the ease of use and the constant presence of enemies and the kids end up spending way too much time just in fights. And what kid can resist a light saber? The net benefit of this game is minimal.

"Does NOT work with new MacBook", IF I could get the game to run more than 5 minutes without crashing, I would rate the "fun" higher. ASPYR less-than-helpful customer service confirmed that this games does not work with the new MacBooks. It has something to do with the video chipset.

Honestly, was some of the rudest customer service I have ever experienced. I complained that the system requirements were not clear and they did not state on their website or in the Amazon description that the game was not compatible with the new MacBooks. Their response - well, guess your screwed.

I'm a HUGE Apple and Star Wars fan. It's unfortunate that they've chosen to partner with a less than stellar development company like Aspyr.

"BUYER BEWARE", I've given one star rating to this game based on a parents nightmare - Xmas day experience in which we couldn't even play the game due to "inadequate" software/hardware on our computer. Other reviewer's have addressed this pitfall in detail so I won't bother rehashing this issue. Before my purchase, all I saw (and mistakenly cared about) from the information provided on the product was that it would be compatible with our current OSX3.9 operating system. We are computer literate but like many older parents, we are new to the gaming universe so it didn't occur to me that you wouldn't be able to play an ~ 2 year-old game on a 2 - 3 year old computer system.

My advice is call developer @ 512 708 8100 (and yes, it's not even a toll-free call) BEFORE YOU BUY product with software/hardware specifications of your computer system to find out if you'll be able to play the game (and if not, what upgrades you will need to be able to play a $30 game). The hassle of getting through and paying for the call is more than worth the tears of a disappointed six year old on Xmas day.

"a fun game with too many hardware requirements", This is an excellent game. My son delights in playing it whenever he is able. We have a long saga about this game, but the general gist of it is: the hardware requirements need to be much more explicit prior to purchase. My husband literally purchased a new computer, just in order to play this game and found that not even a new computer had the required hardware. We bought hardware and had a friend install it, only to find that it didn't work either. That was with the PC version. We were delighted when the Mac version was released and bought it hoping to play it on my relatively new computer, but to no avail! Finally, we found another person's computer that has more RAM and my son is able to play it finally. Needless to say, it has been difficult for our son to remain patient. He has loved Star Wars since he was six. He loves the game. And, it has been a two year saga of failed attempts until recently. Even now, it is not ideal. And, he is grateful that he CAN play his game (now that we own both versions, though neither work at home!!)

Please do parents who might be considered "technically challenged" a favor---be explicit with the technical requirements in BOLD prior to purchase. Thank you!

"Will not run on new Mac's", the manufacturer needs to state upfront that the game will not run on the new intel based macs. I too called Aspyr and they said they are trying to come up with a patch, but don't know when that will happen. As of now it is not high on their priority list. We would not have purchased had we known.

My son has played this on PC with his friends and loves it, (and no one had any seizures!) Very disappointing not to be able to play it on his mac, and I am out 30 bucks.

And, no

"DOES NOT OPERATE ON MAC MINI!", Just be aware it does NOT work on the MAC Mini with the dual core chip. Only "OLD" MAC products. I've called the manufacturer of the game to verify this. "Maybe" in the future, but obviously not now. A shame as that's what a lot of kids are getting these days as an inexpensive but quality computer.

My 10-year old hopes that in September, when they release Part 2 of this game it will work.
