"Prepare to be drawn in" Wow. You know, there aren't many games that can give me the chills more than a year after I play them. There also aren't many games that I set out to buy with an intent to replay them. Fahrenheit, or Indigo Prophecy for those in the States, is one of them.
You have to realise what kind of game this is. It's a heavily story-driven game, with many traditional gameplay elements missing. There are microgames within the game, accomplishing which is necessary for you to advance, but they're elementary. You have to remember which two directional buttons to press a la DDR, or you have to press the left-right buttons repeatedly as fast as you can, or you have to move your mouse to the left or the right to select the correct dialogue. That's it. So if it's necessary for you to control all the aspects of your character, then this game may not be for you; but if you like to be submerged in a supernatural story, read on!
The story, actually, is quite amazing. Quantic Dream effectively proved themselves for me with their first game, Omikron: The Nomad Soul; and I was pleasantly surprised that they were responsible for this creation. You follow the daily life of Lucas Kane right after he commits a murder in a way that he can't explain in an incredibly well-made introduction sequence to the game. From then on, he descends into depression, while concurrently he realises and remembers more and more things about himself and his latent abilities.
At the same time, you follow two detectives who investigate the murder case, getting increasingly close to the identity of the killer, until... a grand finale.
At times it was incredibly hard to decide whether to help Lucas or the detectives. You immediately sympathise with Lucas since you know he's done nothing wrong, but at the same time you start liking Carla and Tyler and try to help them out. In an intricate gameplay you manage to balance both groups, but it'll continue making you feel like you're somehow betraying the secrets that you're not supposed to share.
The only flaw of the game is that the ending feels rushed. It has a very deus ex machina resolution, and you're left wondering why exactly the plot veered into that direction.
Nonetheless, the rest of the game is executed superbly; the moods are set immediately; the storyline is gripping; and it's really hard not to play it all the way through.
"terrible game with no point" this has to be one of the worst games ive ever played. there is freedom to move around, but everything else follows a close script. there is no real shooting in the game which makes it far from the shooter catagory it was listed in. the story itself is hard to follow and not very great. dont waste your money. go buy frogger instead, it might be more of a challenge
"Need to get out of the library" Hi I am a new gammer thanks to my son...I am having a great time with my first game Indigo Prophecy...but I cannot get out of the library. There is something I am doing wrong and not sure what it is...I choose he books and none seem the be the one the Asian book keeper is looking for. Can anyone help me with this. My email is wokkawoman@hotmail.com..Thanks....
"WOW!!!!!!!!!" Oh, yeah, I LOVE this game. From the very first scene to the very last, this was one fast and fun ride. I'm the type of laid back player that prefers games like Nancy Drew or Syberia, but I have played a few action games on the PC. The biggest drawback to PC Action games is the control interface, which is why I shy away from them. It's very difficult to make the complex controls normally seen in console games for the keyboard/mouse. There are a few games that come to mind that have successfully done this, and Indigo Prophecy is definitely one of them.
This game has a fantastic story line, a fantastic story arc, and superb game play. This game plays more like an interactive movie. I could easily suspend my disbelief and become the characters. The action scenes were so well done that I wanted to play it over again just to watch my character. Just the opening scenes had my heart racing and I was in absolute shock that the beginning of a game could draw me in that fast and be so darn good.
I think this is the first game I've ever played that wasn't frustrating at some point. I was never stuck wondering what I was supposed to do next or aggravated because I couldn't get something to work. Even if things didn't go smoothly for my character (ie. I made a mistake), the game still progressed. There are so many decisions, and each one affects the progress and outcome of the game, you can play it over and over again.
After some practice, the controls will become second nature. I recommend practicing with the game drone before playing until they become easy. Don't worry about memorizing what you need to push and when, the game very helpfully prompts you throughout. Just practice doing the actions until they are smooth.
If you like point & click adventures, go ahead and get this one. It's different from what you are used to, but the interaction is so seamless and enjoyable that you'll be left wondering why all adventure games can't be like this one.
"Great Game--Hard To Play" The game is totally engrossing, and lots of scary fun. Don't mess around with the M rating--they mean it!! The only problem is that it's basically a series of manual dexterity and speed tests. That part is Not Fun. You control the character with the arrow keys, which makes for real trouble navigating sometimes. You interact with objects by looking at these bizarro icons on your screen and moving your mouse in the direction they indicate. Often the clock is running as you sit there staring at them wondering what on earth the game designers were smoking. Dialog is handled the same way. Action sequences are done Dance Dance Revolution style.
The 16 year old in the house loved this game. I, old fart that I am, find it frustrating but still great fun. My big complaint is that I can't focus on what I care about--I sometimes miss what is happening and what characters are saying because I have to concentrate on the dexterity games. That's more than annoying--it detracts from the game. I play because I like the story. Causing me to miss out on the story, even a little bit, is not a plus. Fortunately the rest of the game makes up for it.
One last note--the end of this game makes no sense at all. It's fun anyway.

What our customer's say!
"Good Cinematic Game", This is one of the best adventure games to come out in the last few years. It's very cinematic so the story is the major focus in the game. Gameplay is simplified to following the buttons on screen, so there is much variety, still if you like this sort of game get it for the interesting story and characters.
"Fun interesting, graphics great, but action sequences problem.", Indigo Prophecies had a captivating storyline, solid characters, nice graphics, and lovely cinematic sequences (of which there are many). I enjoyed playing through it the first time but would never do so again simply because it's much like a movie in that it has no replayability to speak of. Once you've experienced it through to the end, that's it.
My single major gripe is that the interactive action sequences require you to conduct a bizarre button mashing session that consists of pressing buttons that correspond to colored flashes on the screen. Basically, your successful pressing of the button sequence allows the cinematic scene to progress in your favor while mistakes result in the scene ending badly (death, capture, etc.). This interface gets very old very fast and I suspect that it was just designed to allow inexperienced gamers to fudge through it without having to learn the art of real-time 3D action.
All in all, an enjoyable experience, but limited to a single dose.
"Absolutly loved it!!!!", I purchased this game on a whim and was not really sure that I was going to like it when I started playing. The story line sucked me in right off the bat. The voice actors are good and the playing is fun. I have played it twice already.
"Fun but very hard", This game is so much fun and so intense, but it is very difficult (at least for me). Some of the controls are confusing and difficult to master. I have only played to Chapter three, and that is where I got stuck because of the controls. The game makes you do a kind of Simon combination of arrow pushes on the keys, but if you don't to them at precisely the right time, you fail. Very very difficult. The story behind the game is intense and full of mystery and I do like the game, it is just hard to play because of the controls.
"A Slight Disappointment", I say that I will not actually add true spoilers (cause most of the time nobody listens to that warning anyway), but I will discuss my general feelings of the ending, so you have been warned.
This game started off really good. The idea of trying to solve a murder that you, the character, committed AND trying to catch the killer, you again, was really intriguing. I liked the 'seemly' freedom of play and decisions that were offered during the first 20 or so acts. Even the little petty tasks of dragging boxes from one place to another didn't bother so much, but in fact added to the mundane feeling of an ordinary world.
My biggest problem with this game was the small amount of freedom you had to change the final ending. Nothing changes the final ending up until the last 2 or 3 acts. You could be a complete jerk to everyone, not save the kid, be mean to Markus, not collect ANY clues as the cops and it still have NO effect on the basic outcome of things. I decided to play this game through twice and make all sorts of different decisions. The only effect you get by making a less than positive choice is a decrease in the sanity bar. That's it. The basic plot line is really really linear and it feels that your trapped into making the mistakes that you would want to avoid.
For example, if the phone is ringing and picking it up would lead to a new plot advance, the game doesn't let you do anything else BUT answer the phone. I was really hoping for a few extra hidden acts that weren't necessarily available every time through. For that I actually recommend to play through the specific chapters just want to see what it said with a different action.
The actual storyline itself was good up until the last quarter or so. Than it takes this complete turn into a weird sci-fi ending that doesn't really make sense with the somber tone of the beginning of the game. A little less matrix would have been nice.
I must say though that the animation and motion were really well done. It really does look like a movie, including the sudden shift of camera angles and the close-ups on certain characters. The graphics are a little out-dated for 2008, but not so that you can't enjoy watching the large number of cut-scenes. Considering that the game play is integrated in watching a lot of cut scenes, they did a good job not making it an annoying task.
The game play I understand has also received some criticism. The thing to keep in mind is the sudden action sequences that are thrown in about every act. These include a DDR/Simon Says hit the button at the right time or fill a bar by hitting buttons alternating really fast. The last one I was personally annoyed with because my computer tends to lag with computer games and so I would lose every time that happened during this sequence. But in all nothing that can't be handled, even on hard mode. The actually moving of the character around is really easy to learn and takes about an act or two to get the hang of it.
In all I did enjoy the game to a point. I was compelled to find out what was going to happen to the protagonist in the end. My major disappointment was the boosted the lack of real freedom in changing the course of events. I was really looking forward to seeing drastic changes bear fruit in the end, but sadly I must look elsewhere for a truly choice-your-own-adventure game.

"Great horror survival game!", This is one of the best horror survival games I've played... and I've played a lot. Though it doesn't live up to Silent Hill in game play itself, the graphics and storyline make up for it. Great voice acting, unbelievable views, and great music are also some of this game's highlights. I would have preferred more puzzles and more difficult game play, which is the only reason I didn't give this game 5 stars for fun.
"Suspensful Adventure", If you like to sit up late at night in the dark and scare yourself a bit then this game is a lot of fun. Lots to do, smart interface.
"Worth playing again... Immediately!", This is by far one of the most engrossing, impressive games I've played and was well worth buying a game controller for. (Now that I've got one, I'll never go back to gaming with my mouse and keyboard again!)
Unlike many point-and-click adventures, there is very little boring lag time on this one: the developers chose, instead, to keep players engaged by making the "story development" episodes interactive.
Meanwhile, the player is presented with many action and conversation choices throughout the game, and each choice can lead the storyline in a wholly new direction.
In other words, playing the game once does not mean you've seen or done it all. Thank goodness for that, too, because I finished the game on Saturday (or so I'd thought) but didn't have another waiting to be played. Rather than cleaning house, I decided to play Indigo Prophecy over again... only to find that just TWO different choices in the opening chapter changed my entire game play experience.
Why can't more games be so well-planned, interactive, and wonderfully designed?
"gran juego compralo", es un muy buen juego, tienes libertad de decicion en algunas cosas, la forma de evitar los ataques es exlente (te mantiene alerta). esta es una buene decicion de compra lo mas seguro es que no te arepentiras
"Breaks the cardinal rule in that it's boring", First of all, I should state that I am a huge fan of adventure games. I must have played half of the Sierra catalog of adventure games back in the late 80s and early 90s. Those games were a lot of fun (if not sometimes frustrating). With this in mind, I approached Indigo Prophecy with a lot of excitement.
Unfortunately what I found was that, as intricate and well-scripted as the plot might be, the game is, in a word, simply not that fun. And as we all know, being boring is the cardinal sin of video games.
Much of this, I think, is the fact that the game has no open-endedness to it at all. The whole thing is played out in 'scenes' where your character has a couple of usually uninteresting (and unchallenging) things to do before moving on to the next scene.
Another problem I found with the game was the much-hyped aspect that 'your actions influence the outcome of the game'! Really I think this is sort of false. My experience was that it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the story still follows the same basic linear path. And if you do try to go off on a real tangent, the game will just end and force you to start the scene over. So much for the 'choose your own adventure' aspect of the game.
All this kind of adds up to an unfulfilling, linear, boring experience. About halfway through I just sort of stopped caring what happens.
