"Psychofunnaughts" A good title to have for your game library. It's non linear, has fun graphics (kind of 60's imagery), and has quirky characters. Too bad it was underappreciated when it came out; I would like to have seen a sequel. Maybe it was the word 'Psycho' in the title that turned off parents.
"A Must Have in Your PS2 Collection" Didn't know quite what to expect when I purchased this game, but based on positive reviews I took a chance...and I'm so happy I did. Psychonauts is now one of my all time favorite games!! Each world was a pure pleasure to explore, the game was entertaining and sufficiently challenging, and I loved all the humor. I really hope that the game creators will soon give us a sequel.
Get a copy while you can; I've recently read that they are no longer printing copies of the game.
"So Much Awesome!!" I love Psychonauts, because it's so different from everything else. Double Fine may be a small company, but they know how to use what they have. Yes this game doesn't have the fancy graphics of, say, Final Fantasy (which I also like) but it's got a great story, interesting characters, amazing design, fantastic worlds and more. I really love this game.
"Awesome but sometimes hard to endure" Psychonauts is an insanely creative game. In it, you are a boy named Raz who sneaks off to Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp to become a psychonaut. During the game you obtain abilities such as levitation, clairvoyance, psi-blasts (which is basically like your brain being a gun), and much more. You are led on many tasks which take you under a lake, to an insane asylum, and into many different people's minds, which is the best part.
First off, the characters. Many people complain about the graphics in this game, claiming them to be ugly and that the drawings are awful. I enjoy to look at them, because most of the games I play feature realistic people. Psychonauts is a lot more fun for me because everybody is weird looking and exaggerated. Unfortunately, I do agree that some of the graphics do not look that great on the PS2. I have played psychonauts on a computer before, and though the controls are much harder, the graphics are better. Well, back to the positive things. Graphics aside, the characters themselves are unique. You can walk up to people and listen to what they're talking about (which can range from band names, to girlfriends, to lake monsters!). You can also walk up and talk to anybody, which is a nice distraction if you want to just walk around and explore for a while.
Exploring is another fun part of Psychonauts. The camp is large, and you can walk around and talk to people, collect arrowheads (which are used as currency), and cards (which you can use to obtain new abilities). The camp is free of enemies, except the occasional fire breathing mountain lion or levitating bear, which leaves you free to wander around and talk to people. The one problem I had with exploring was the LOADING. Everytime you go to a new area, the game has to freaking load. It can take a while. Not minutes, but enough time to get annoyed. This did not completely ruin the game for me, though, because what was on the other side of the loading screen was usually worth it.
The controls in Psychonauts are pretty simple, but there are a few bugs and tricky moves. Sometimes when you are trying to get Raz to get off of a pole or ladder, he won't or you will be trying to get him on one and he won't. Other times the camera will randomly spin around and you won't be able to see because there is a huge tree in your way or something. Sometimes the lighting is really bad, and Raz can fall onto a ledge, but you can't get off it because it is too dark to see anything. The glitches do not happen too often, but when they do, it is frustrating.
Another fault is the the game is simply too easy. Aside from a few tricky parts, the bosses are all easy and the game is simple. I found myself halfway through after only about 5 hours. You find yourself craving the game once it's done, not proud of yourself and glad that you completed it, because it happened so fast.
Pros: -great characters -interesting story -fun upgrades -interesting environment -easy controls Cons: -the controls, while easy, can be frustrating since Raz won't do what you want him to do -bugs and glitches -too short and easy
Overall, this is a great addition to any game library. If you like a game that is a little odd-ball, but with lots of creativity and humour, get Psychonauts!
"really fun game " This game is lots of fun and not to hard for any age.

What our customer's say!
"Snarky Fun", A sharp-witted game designed with at least two different types of players in mind. The linear gameplay and non-linear game maps allow the player who wishes to play just the storyline to do so, but also has a treasure-hunt quest for the player who likes to explore every nook and cranny. The main character uses PG-13 language, and some of the monsters are a bit on the disturbing side... in a cartoonish way. But the very BEST part of this game is its sense of humor. Among the many humorous elements are telekinetic bears that dramatically fall over dead (with a pirouette and a hand over their heart) when you attack them, evil squirrels, and a Russian kid that keeps talking about the bears: "Have you seen hairless bear around here?", secret agents that don't use their props correctly (one who is supposed to be a rifleman cradles his gun treats it like a baby, and another who is a grieving widow uses their prop lily as a golf club), and a paranoid milkman who talks crazy and sees things -- a psychosis you are able to share. I first played it with a friend who got it through GameFly and beat it, but I found myself repeating lines from the game and wanting to share the humorous cut scenes with my husband, so I bought it and played it through again. It's really sad that the creators went bust, because the genius behind this game is, well, genius.
"sequel please...", PLEASE BUY this game so the publishers (Big wigs who funded the studio to create this game)knows that a sequel is worth creating and investing into! Such a shame more gamers aren't even aware of the game's existence. A great game! Straight up!!!!
"May not be the best version...", I was very hyped for Psychonauts. It was the latest work that came from Tim Schafer, the man who brought us Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. Little did I know that once I'd popped it in and started playing it I was going to be disappointed. I've read and heard the praises for this game's visuals but these compliments were surely to the XBox version. In this PS2 version the character models and environments lacked detail and looked dated. PS2's Psychonauts is riddled with loading screens. The constant pausing felt like riding a roller coaster only to stop every few feet. There was also a notable lag here and there. Overall the experience was missing flow and polish. It was easy to realize that this game was designed for the XBox.
Aside from all the negatives there are positives. For one the heart and core of the game survive. The game is funny. And to find something like "funny" is a often a rarity in a video game.
So the bottom line is that if you're thinking of getting this game and have a PS2 and an XBox, get the XBox version. Heck, if you have a 360, get the XBox version because Psychonauts is now on the 360 backwards compatibility list. If you don't have either XBoxes, play God of War or better yet buy a 360.
"immaculate", this game is WILD and tons of fun. it's interesting and it has great gameplay. the basis of the game is you're a camper at a psychonaut program, and end up learning a lot of psychic powers and saving the rest of your friends. the graphics are sick. some of the locations you end up visiting end up getting twisted and turned. its totally insane. it's also a great game because it's very psychology based. you travel in peoples' minds, destroying their demons. its incredibly clever and very touching at times. i laughed, i cried, and held my bladder for hours while playing.. it was beautiful. i recommend this game to everyone and anyone.
"best game youve never heard of", i saw a review of this game on g4 and i had to get it.g. really fun, new smart. its cheap so what do you have to lose

"It's the narrative, the art, the range of ideas", I am just an old patent attorney, and don't always know what the kids like, but I loved this! Extremely creative. Fun for anyone who wishes they had powers of pyrokinesis and teleportation. A platform-shooter-puzzle-scavenger hunt game that is not brutally hard, but hard enough!
"psychonuts", This is a fun game to play but the one thing that REALLY got on my nerves was the 35 second load time. Every time you head towards a different part of camp you "load" and that takes forever. No other games I have played wasted time with constant loading. You can't have everything.
"A Delightful Romp Into the Game Character Psyche", Psychonauts was a great game to play. With the PlayStation, I believe it was easier to control than it would be on a PC, and with that being said, it still took awhile to get used to them. The designs for the many students (and eventual mental patients) stood out with so many games coming out with more realisticly rendered characters, this was like a breath of freash air. Each foray into the different characters minds was incredible. The Black Velvotopia stands formost in my mind with its black light highlights and the Milkman Conspiracy second with the world being so topsy turvy you have no idea which direction is truly up or down. Anyone a fan of Invader Zim can appreciate the voicework of Richard Horvitz in the lead role of Raz but all the voicework was topnotch and the comedy easily rolled from the great cast of characters. I wholly recommend this game to anyone looking for a interesting twist on an adventure game.
"A great game wrapped in a brilliant story", Psychonauts is quite likely the best platform game ever released on any platform.
The game is smart, funny, challenging and overwhelming creative. There is even a level seemingly dedicated to the artistic stylings of Mark Ryden.
I've enjoyed platform games like Ratchet and Clank, Jax, and Katamari Damaci, but Psychonauts leaves them all in the dust.
This title gets my highest recommendation.
"Fun, trippy game", I love Psychonauts. The graphics aren't super new and flashy, but to be honest, it doesn't matter as much when the storyline is this compelling. I find that I love picking up this game. There are a few annoying parts, but generally any repetitiveness or frustrating parts of the game don't last long.
