"Good" If you are a History junky like I am youll probably like this game.
"shows promise" The interface of this game is rather confusing and the tutorial is as always in these cases incomplete. For younger players this design is probably not a great deal of fun.
"If you like strategy games, this one is for you." The graphics are terrific, the concept is intelligent. Think Rome Total War at the time of Napolean. If you are a war enthusiast, this game is for you.
"Finally found a bad enough game to write a review." Hello, let me start out by stating that I am in my mid 30s and have been playing games for over 30 years.
First off the bat, I purchased this game back in October of last year. I got it home and tried to install it. After trying for over an hour I finally gave up and called the Edios support line. I had a batch of defective discs according to the error codes I received. This is the first and only time that I couldn't even get a game to install.
Fast forward to 2 days ago. Having mailed in my defective discs, receipt, box and manual to Edios about 4 months ago I finally called their support line again. I waited for over an hour the first time before I finally gave up. Then I called them back in the evening and finally got through. No big surprise when I finally talked to someone that they had never heard of me or my bad discs. Then I gave them my RMA number and they shipped out new discs.
Well now, having waited for over 4 months to play this game I opened it up, installed it and beat it in one night. Halfway through I realized that all you needed to do was wait evey few turns and you could use the diplomacy option to buy a new country. So after spending all night clicking OK and next turn. I beat the game. I couldn't tell you anything about the battle scenes because I never fought a single battle. The final few countries I just waited until I outnumbered the AI by 3 to 1 and clicked automatic results. Game over. So I was so disappointed I decided to write a review. Please, please, please do not buy this game. Do like I did and pull out an older copy of Imperialism or Axis and Allies if you want to play a turn based war game.
"Imperial Glory" Beautiful game. Period. As for playability not worth it. I have seen two types of reviews either 1-2 bad or 4-5 good. The 1-2 is more accurate as this game is lame, especially if you like wargames, strategy games, Total War, Civilzation, Steel Panthers, etc or any other similar game. The reviewers that wrote a 4-5 and I think one wrote this is for hardcore gamers, what a bunch of bull. This game is for a 5 year old kid. The troops look great, but no hint of actual realism in the game. They will hack at each other until only one side or the other is standing. Why the game company left out morale is beyond me. In the Napoleanic time period, casualties were light, mainly you fought til one side or the other ran. In this game you will have 500 troops go against 500 troops, and at least on one side, you will end up with 500 dead troops, no prisoners, deserters, retreats, etc. Actually for that matter, even in modern combat you never are able to inflict 100% casualties on your opponents. Also artillery range quite short.
This game has huge potential, if only the game company would spent some time on perfecting a bit more realism. As it is, this is like a beautiful modern game, with 1970's Atari AI. Also some realism in the strategic/political model might have been nice too.
I am looking forward to their next release, perhaps it will be a bit better. To be honest, I don't regret buying as I read the reviews before hand. It was like I said, very pretty to watch for a few minutes. If only they could collaborate with Matrix Crown of Glory, you would have the best of both worlds, hardcore game with much substance no graphics and graphics with no substance.

What our customer's say!
"Copy Protection on disc/unable to play", My Nephew has this game so when I found it finally on Amazon I bought it. Only 9.99 (plus shipping) not a bad deal. However once I received the game due to a "copy protection" on the disc my computer couldn't read/play it. Luckily it worked on my Nephew's PC so we traded discs! There should be some kind of warning that the disc can not be played on `writeable' drives before purchasing any games.
"Loved the demo, but game not compatible w/ my PC", I played the demo of this game and if you have a DVD drive on your computer I strongly recommend it. Game works great and is alot of fun. Unfortunately I don't have a DVD drive so I'm a wee bit cheesed off.
"Great Ideas but Boring Game", Imperial Glory just isn't a lot of fun. The concept is terrific and there are some wonderful innovations, but gameplay isn't interesting.
The Good: The idea of a Total War type game set in Napoleonic Europe is terrific, as is the idea of allowing the player to devote resources to building politicial and economic buildings in other player's territories. The resource management system, while nonsensical, adds some strategy to economic development as the player struggles to balance gold, raw materials, population and food. The tech tree is a lot fuller than in a Total War game and offers interesting strategic choices. The diplomacy is quite complex and it is possible to win through diplomacy alone.
The Indifferent: As so many other reviewers have pointed out, the game isn't even trying to be historically accurate.
The Bad: As in the case of the Total War series, a lot of effort has been put into the RTS battle system. However, while the graphics are lovely, there is no strategy to the battles and the toughest army always wins. Building improvements isn't much more fun since you usually have to click through multiple turns to save up enough to buy anything. The result is that while the game is great in theory, it is a chore to play. Imperial Glory it is as corageous and inventive as Napoleon himself, but alas, it is about as much fun as a Russian winter.
"Imperial Glory: Good Game overall", The pluses and negatives of this game depend on you as a player. If you like the rise of nations or age of empires sort of game where you collect raw materials and build armies that can defend your base...etc then this may not be for you. If you are a fan of the board game/pc game risk, then this is more up your alley. Much of the game works on a tactical level on a map of Europe, where you can build buildings, units and research technology in a turn based way. However when you go to war and attack an enemy territory, you can actually fight the battle with the armies you have created. I was very impressed with the battle mode for this game. I know other games like Total War get lots of hype but I think the battle mode is better in Imperial Glory than Total War. The movement is smooth and moving troops is easy. Also for those that like to mod, this game is not impossible to mod and can provide many added hours of fun when you edit the game files and see your changes happen. Bottom line is, if you like a fusion of army control and risk strategy you will like this game. 5 Stars for a British nut like me that loves the period it is set, but at least 4 stars for those that like and want a better version of risk.
"IMPERIAL GLORY IS A BLAST", If you like strategy games you'll love this one.
The campaign map is somewhat dull but the battle maps are realistic
A real plus is the realistic naval battles.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Hard to get bored", This is a great strategy game. If you ever wondered what empire-building during the Napoleonic era was like, this is the game for you. The game is thoroughly researched down to the level of the uniforms and weaponry, and the military units manouver in the precise manner described in military history books. For naval warfare buffs, it brings new realism to naval strategy games, allowing for the wind factor and the accuracy of the guns. Be warned, however, this is a game for hard-core strategists, not for the shoot-em up crowd. If you consider yourself a cognoscenti of military strategy games with more than a passing taste for history, give this one a try, you won't regret it
"Napoleon , Blucher, Wellington....! sword, musket and cannon", Imperial Glory covers the mid point in European imperialism, The game mainly plays out the Napoleonic Wars combined with the industrial revolution. All this lumped together in a campaign that well, is longgggg. Quick battles (land and naval)are great and stimulating. They include a pause, real time point and click order, with very slow to very fast speed of play and the naval side has a wind gauge. The campaign AI is designed to play out as if it were the 1791-1820's, (3 levels of difficulty)with each nations armies evenly matched to some degree. This is the best game covering the the age of Napoleon!.... I am still playing this game after 6 months of play. I place alot of priority on 3D graphics and they are good. You can move the camera all around units and buildings during battles. Game Pros. Unit graphics, naval battles, easy command and control of units during battles, game pause and save adilities, beautiful terrian, straight forward technology tree and game play. Game Cons. Limited number of unit types, and regions to control, weak AI compared to the MTW and RTW series, cannot mod game with microsoft. If you are looking for a game to relive history then you may not like this game, but if you want to change history then the game will deliver.
"Fun easy game.", This was a fun game to play. It was almost as fun as Medieval Total War. I removed 1 star for the combat interface. Combat on land is fine, it was similar to the total war series. The naval combat is where I removed the 1 star. The naval combat can be confusing if you have more than 3 ships, you send off a ship in a particular direction, andyou forget why you sent the ship in that direction ion the first place. It would be nice to issue orders while paused.
Not only that, the empires are not truly balanced. Playing campaign mode hardest level of difficulty, England is the easiest to play. If you can defend your coast with fleets, you will never be invaded. All the other countries, you need a sizable army to defend yourself or risk invasion in the beginning. Getting resources to build an army takes time.
"Good looking package ... nothing inside", As other people have commented here, this game aspires to be the "Total War" equivalent for the Napoleonic Wars. Unfortunately, all the game has is pretty visuals and no substance:
1. Unlike "Total War" -- morale is not a factor -- units of soldiers fight to the last man, every time -- playing it was like watching a bunch of robots in period costumes fighting each other.
2. Unlike "Total War" -- the strategic game is completely uninvolving.
3. Artillery in the game is dramatically underpowered. As others here have noted, there is no "canister shot" for breaking up cavalry charges. And the AI behind the artillery is so stupid that your batteries will cheerfully fire at targets beyond their range with no effect whatsoever.
Maybe "Imperial Glory II" will fix these problems. But in the meantime, I'm out the 50 or so dollars I paid for this pallid imitation of the "Total War" series.
Oh well, at least I didn't buy the Strategy Guide.
"My review", This game was a bit hard to understand the game play even after going through the tutorial. But the basic understanding of the game can be grasped pretty quickly. A basic understanding of the units abilities and tactics of the time period are a big plus with this game. It does take alot of time to build up any sort of military that can conquer any other country. I don't like the fact that you are limited on countries you can trade with and declare war against, but this is only at first. The user friendly of this game makes it a good choice for anyone that may have some experience in the real time strategy games such as Civilization, or Rome total war. Overall this is an enjoyable game and even more so with some knowledge of the time period in which it is set.
