"iWork '05 Mac", I have AppleWorks 6 and MS Office 2004 on my laptop, but I prefer to use iWorks. I just wish I had watited a few days longer and purchased iWorks 6 which seems to have a few new item I would like.

"iWork", I used iWork to create a sales catalog for my artwork. With the little time I had to get it ready, iWork Pages worked seamlessly with Photoshop to import photos. By using the templates, I was able to make amazing sheets. I could float and overlap images for a really professional look. Wish the template pages were more versatile. Had trouble with moving photos around due to placeholders. Will probably work this out when I have time to read directions. Made a video presentation that looped continually at my booth at a trade show with Keynote. It was easy to put together and the 3-D transitions really set it apart. I've used MS Publisher and thought Keynote was way more exciting, altho not as many templates maybe available.

"installation sucks-- good program", It took me awhile to get this program installed because it kept saying there was "nothing to install." After a search of the internet I found some websites that instructed me to trash everything on my computer that had to do with iwork, pages and keynote. EVERYTHING! and then empty the trash. Then it installed just fine.
I love the things you can do with this program and am looking forward to all the fun pages I can create.

"iWork '05 Suite", The iWork `05 Suite is a great, economic way to get a good word processing and a great presentation tool in one package. Pages, which is the word processing program, lets the user create from letters, to newsletters, resumes, cover letters, and much more. Even though the included templates focus more on newsletters, anything can be done with the program if none of the templates match what you need to do. I find the program very nice to work with and fairly easy to use. It feels fast and responsive as well. The interface is very light, with the most common tools and icons ready at the user's disposal with just one click away. While there are other word processing programs on the market much more advanced than Pages, this one breaks the trend and is very pleasing to use. I found myself using Pages more often than I did Microsoft Word for Mac. You can also export your Pages documents to a PDF file, a Word document, Rich Text, Plain Text and HTML. You can also create bulleted lists, insert tables, images and more in your Pages documents.

Keynote, on the other hand, is, in my opinion, a much more complete application than Pages. It feels like it has way more features. It is an application to create presentations, much like Microsoft PowerPoint. I've used PowerPoint in the past, but now that I've used Keynote, I find myself using Keynote much more often. The user interface is also easy to use, with the layouts very easy to pick and choose your own. There are also many effects that you can choose from, making your presentation much more eye-catching and interesting. Since it's integrated with iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie, you can quickly insert any pictures, video clips or audio into your presentation, with a quick click of the mouse button. No more browsing and searching; it's all easy to find under the "Media" button. You can also export your presentations to a PDF or a PowerPoint file to share with friends or co-workers.
The iWork `05 suite still is a fresh piece of software, with much more room for growth. For us out there who need no more than a word processor and an occasional presentation program, it makes a great buy.

You save money also comparing it to Microsoft Office for Students & Teachers, which you can only buy if you're one a student or teacher. iWork `05 still lacks a spreadsheets program. Many rumors are around that the next version of iWork will include such program and both Pages and Keynote will see a much better upgrade. These are, of course, as of this writing still rumors, and still questionable.
For now, this is a great buy for either the student on a budget, the home user or the pro.

"buy a mac just to use this program!", This program makes me look like a genuis every time I make a presentation whether oral or written.

Pages
Pages can do anything MS word can do, and it is much more functional. It also can export and import word documents that are fully compatable with the MS word and, thus, MS office world.

Keynote
Keynote out does MS power point. It's the functionality and ease associated with mac that makes the difference. Your presentations are a little better than MS power point versions, and this higher quality takes a little less effort with keynote. Also, like word, you can move power point presentations via import and export functions.

I am not a programmer, but it seems to me that "anything MS word and MS power point can do, pages and keynote can do better." This includes such things as making (and exporting) MS word documents and power point presentations onto wintel (IBM/microsoft) machines!

"Excellent", Great word processor, really amazing, can do 1000 more things than Microsoft's word.

Keynote is great program and the simplicity to use it alone or with other programs like iPhoto is great.

"If you are using OSX, iWork is a great publishing alternative to PageMaker", That is if you are not going to invest in InDesign or Quark. I purchased this copy for a co-worker's eMac. The newer OS didn't like his old PageMaker program so iWork was an inexpensive solution for creating forms and other print projects. We haven't created anything in Pages yet, but it opened an existing PowerPoint show on his computer and there were no great conversion issues. The only thing that was really missed was PageMaker's tools palette. But this person has time to get to know the program. The package comes with a hard copy of the program shortcuts, just like an Adobe product. Bottom line, it is so much more than a word processor!

"Another Apple Home Run", Apple has been releasing great applications for consumers in the past few years with the iLife suite. With iWork, Apple has refocused their efforts on mainstream businesspeople.

iWork's word processing program, called Pages, has an interface reminicient of MacWrite Pro, a program that was easy to use yet powerful. However, this program offers much more than MacWrite Pro. It has many great built in templates and is great for desktop publishing as well as simple letter writing. Easier to use than Word, it has nearly as much power in the document department. For publishing, though, this one beats Word in every respect, and is a great alternative for those who don't want to deal with a high end publishing program such as Quark XPress. Like iMovie, professional results can be produced with consumer software.

Keynote is far superior to PowerPoint. The PowerPoint templates have been around since 1997 or so, and are starting to get old and boring. Since nobody wants to use hackneyed slides, Keynote offers completely new templates. Like the iLife templates they are very well thought out. QuickTime integration is a real plus. The program itself is easy to use and can be used as a basic drawing program in some respects.

This suite is gradually replacing AppleWorks 6, which has not been updated since 2001 and can trace its roots back to ClarisWorks, which debuted in 1991. AppleWorks isn't much more powerful than the original ClarisWorks and is definitely showing its age.

The only module that this does not have is a spreadsheet. If you're looking for an Excel replacement here, you're out of luck. Fortunately the Mac version of Excel is quite good. AppleWorks has a spreadsheet but the interface is somewhat old-fashioned.

Given the power of Keynote and Pages, this is something every Mac user should own.

"iWork Works Like A Dream", iWork contains both Pages (a word processing/page layout application) and Keynote (a presentation application). These apps are designed to work as intuitively as iTunes, iPhoto and the other applications from the iLife suite. In fact both Pages and Keynote are fully integrated with iLife so adding files from any of the iLife applications to a Pages or Keynote document is as easy as drag and drop.

I mainly use Pages and have created newsletters, envelopes, flyers and personal letters. I'd estimate I worked an average of 20 to 30 minutes on the flyers I have created, and most of that time was spent on the actual text of the document. Similar projects with all the formatting, colors, images and boxes, have easily taken me double that time using Word and AppleWorks.

Pages let you export your document in Word, PDF and HTML formats, however I have found that the exported files sometimes don't perfectly mirror the original. Drop shadows didn't appear and positioning was slightly off. Keynote has similar exporting problems. If you need to share actual files with others, the exporting problems in iWork will give you quite a few headaches. Thankfully, I'm printing out all my documents or sharing them with other iWork users.

The iWork interface is seamless and beautiful and offers many useful templates. These templates are so good that I'd like to se even more of them included. But if the templates don't offer what you're looking for then iWork lets you customize them to your tastes/needs or else create your very own templates from scratch. A few of the included templates give me a bit of lag when using them but it's nothing egregious. Aside from that minor quibble the only complaint I have is the trouble I have exporting my files to other formats.

If you routinely create letters, flyers or presentations, then you owe it to yourself to pick up iWork. Why? Well, iWork works hard for you by expanding your options and helping you create beautiful projects in a fraction of the time it would take with other software. And it does it all with a pleasing visual flair.

"No Microsoft Office replacement.", What iWorks does great is what Apple does great, it goes to the hard to do things and attacks them with avengance. Everyone can type a work processing document, but what about create a great looking resume, a great promotional flyer for a club, or even stellar presentations? iWorks adds a visual flare to the world of presentations, but it lacks in one major area: a decent word processor. While Pages does an awsome job at creating art, when it comes down to putting a paper together it's odd and cumbersome to operate.

In the end I recomend this application if you want help creating advertisements, flyers, and presentations like how iMovie helped you with making movies.
