"Buyer Beware: Absolute biggest total piece of crap software . . . EVER!!"
I read the reviews and thought "You know, I have an AMD Athlon 64 CPU and 1G of RAM, it won't crash on MY computer." Listen to me: it's not the computers that are making this program crash, it just DOES all by itself!

Through trial and error, I spent about 3 hours trying to get this software to run properly, and each time I would get enveloped in designing my home it would crash. It just shuts down by itself.

And don't even think of using the restore option, because the autosaved files become corrupt when the program crashes.

I'm telling you this: I have no idea how this piece of excrement made it through the QC department, but I will NEVER purchase another program made by Individual Softare, Inc.

"Constantly crashes on Win XP Pro"
Started installation: Its full installation is ~1.5GB and takes a long long time.
Once started using: the user interface is quite good and reasonably easy to find things. However, I soon started to run into problems. Once walls become "fixed" they are very difficult to remove.
Biggest problem has been stability of the program, it constantly kept blue screening on my DELL Inspiron 4150 laptop (512MB RAM) running WinXP Pro. I have not had this problem with any other software I have installed on this machine.
This software has now been uninstalled and will not be using it again.

"Lockups, Crashes, other major problems"
Purchased version 6 in October of 2003 and had problems. Called company and after much discussion they sent me version 8. Did not notice any improvements from version 6 and had same problems. I was not trying to do anything spectacular, I was just recreating my existing home and trying to add an addition.I started more than a dozen plans from scratch and all the plans either locked up, would not load or would completely kick you out of the program and it would not always save the plan before crashing. The programs does not tell you when you have made an error in design ( ie walls not meeting, etc) and if you do get an error message it will be a generic message and does not tell you where the error is. The help line does try but they are slow and limited in knowledge- I have been trying to get a solution for my problems for 6 months. The last conversation I had with Tech support, they told me the software was not capable of doing what I was attempting to do!!!??? I have gone back to my 8 year Broderbund Home Architect. It doesn't have all the features advertised by Individual, but at least it works.

Update 3/2006. They sent me version 7 of Deluxe homes and landscapes about 4 months ago. It did not work and they never responded to my inquiry. Apparently they have given up and so have I. Due to the complete lack of competent support staff, I will never buy a Broderbund product again.

"A improvement from Versions 6.0 and 7.0..."
I have to admit I was getting fed up with all the work I would put into a project and then it would just disappear. This was working with versions 6.0 and 7.0. But, I did happen to find a corrupt file from version 6.0 which turned out to be a bad disk and so far NO problems with any of the versions. I do recommend that the user does take advantage of the "AUTO RESTORE" feature. You also have to be very patient with technical support but they are a big help. So, im giving version 8.0 3 stars. We'll see how it runs. The program offers basic home design. And what the box say's is what the program offers. Remember that for $ 40 bucks your not gonna get the bells and whistles that BH&G or PUNCH has. But, if your into interior decorating, lanscaping, etc this program is for you.

"awful crash prone program"
I have been working on computers since 1975. I have seen some awful programs, including some that I have written. This is the single most crash prone piece of software I have ever had the misfortune to use. No mater what you do, it WILL crash. It WILL corrupt HOURS of work and leave you with no option but to delete the file and start over again.

"I wish I had read the reviews first", I have used for a few days. And here are the issues I have encountered:
- every so often - this software causes my machine to hang - it starts using 100% of the CPU and returns control to me after anywhere from 1min to 4min.
- if you add light fixtures - it assumes you have a gable roof. I had put a flat roof and the light fixtures show up above the wall.
- It loses changes periodically. Although nothing has crashed and I save my changes regularly.
- After many hours - I completed the floor plan and then when I try to add appliances, or change the floor type - it complains "One of the walls is invalid" and doesnt allow me to add appliances or change the floor.

I am amazed there is no "product recall" of this piece of junk.

I wish I had read the reviews before. I bought it not on Amazon but another store.

"Crashes my computer", I have a very nice computer (3.2 intell, 1000mb ram, NVida 6600gt, XP Pro) that has been running great lately, including video games like Doom 3. I have yet to have a crash since my last reinstall 6 months ago. This program locks my computer up after only using it for 30 minutes. It won't swith between the different views. Stay away from this product or any other this company makes. Its a waste of time & money. I'm so mad it made me write my first review!

"can you do ZERO stars? STAY AWAY", The software and the company are LAME. On the phone with supervisor Greg of tech support I was told they didn't have to return my money because "our lawyers wrote the return policy" and that they'd had "four of you guys" today that called to request refunds for the same product. Took SEVEN DAYS to return my call, offered NO apology for the unstable program they'd sold and the problems I had experienced, insisted it was MY DESIGN that made the program continually crash, and insisted I reinstall it and add patches to fix their problems, and they'd STILL not refund my money.
I bought it at Target for 20 dollars and the "Individual Software" supervisor actually said on the phone: "You get what you pay for, it was only $20, what did you think it was going to do? Make a set of plans for you?" They know NOTHING about keeping customers happy and are CLUELESS. The program is limited and unstable. Fortunatley Target flexed on their return policy when they heard the horror stories, and I plan on making sure all consumer web sites are aware of these bozos!

I totally agree with the other reviews here and everywhere else on google. The tech support guy said they were all written by their competitors! I wish I'd read this before I'd bought it, but THANK GOODNESS FOR TARGET being cool to hook me up with an open box refund.

"One star is too many....", PLEASE...save yourself the headache! Read version7 reviews and decide for yourself if you really have the time to deal with such a program or company.

I've sent Individual all the links about their customers' experience. I don't think it will do any good but I think they should know the percentage of people writing negative reviews on their products.

My next site to "update" will be Cnet and Consumer Reports (if they have a section for something like this).

Avoid this program at all costs. I will update you all if they EVER reply to my e-mail. However, I will not hold my breath.


"Another quality piece of work from Individual Software", I have not tried this version of Total 3D, but v7 got the same response from everybody who tried it: worthless. Before you take a chance on v8, read the reviews for Total 3D Home and Landscape v7 and check up on Individual Software at the Better Business Bureau's web site. Also realize that my experience with their technical support/customer service involved them telling me the problems with the program were a result of uneducated customers--you'd laugh hearing this if you experienced first-hand the problems with the program and saw the manual and help files that accompany v7. With so many unhappy customers, it's amazing IS hasn't been run out of business.
