"My 5-year old loves it"
My 5-year old just started Kindergarten, but LOVES math (which they will only really cover a little of sometime this year). I bought this for him after his first day of school (he's "earned" a toy, and the one he planned on wasn't available). He choose this instead. He loves it. Its easy to use, even for one not too accustomed to computers, etc. He has had trouble with other electronic toys that try to get him to answer in X seconds, but loves that this tells him how long it took him, but doesn't pressure him to get it done in a certain time. The progression from easier to harder on the levels is great. He was "way past" some early levels, but he could do some mid-levels and still be challenged. We even discovered he could divide while he used this toy, though we didn't really know that before (other than 4 divided by 2 or such). He loves this toy so much, he took it to show and tell at school.

I would highly recommend for either kids struggling to remember things like times tables, or kids who just love doing math problems and want to be continually challenged. I'm sure this toy will last my little one for a long time, as there is so much to learn with it. Oh... he also loves to use it as a calculator. Its amazing how many things he finds to "calculate" in everyday life!

"Math Whiz"
Awesome little toy. Child can start off at the easy level and work their way up. Game is esy to use and easy to understand. Has all levels of math for any child and I appreciate the fact that my child can have fun and learn at the same time.

"Math Whiz"
This product quit working after only a couple of weeks. I tried new batteries, but it would not work. I couldn't remember where I ordered it, so I called the company. They were supposed to send me a new one, but I never recieved it. I still have the broken one. I was very dissappointed. I must have gotten a lemon!

"Math whiz works"
Math Whiz has really helped my daughter with her addition skills. The games emphasize accuracy and speed. Her older brother can use this as well to reinforce his multiplication skills. It seems to travel well since my daughter has been toting it around in her backpack quite a bit.

"Like it when it works"
This is a good little devise. It has a tendency of freezing up if you answer to fast or hit two buttons at the same time. I either wait until it unfreezes or have to pull the batteries to get it to reset. Other than that it is exactly what I was looking for for my kids.

What our customer's say!

"Would be great if it worked", Great idea, but poor quality. Minutes after starting to use it, something came loose and regardless of how many times attempted to fix, would not work again. Some buttons worked and others did not.

"buttons don't work!", Very excited to get this for my daughter to help her learn her multiplication tables. Opened it up today, loaded it with batteries and...the buttons don't work! It feels very cheap, even for a plastic hand held game, and the buttons freeze or won't work at all. Very, very frustrating. It goes back tomorrow!

"Homeschool Math Helper", I am using the Math Whiz as part of my homeschool math curriculum to help my son memorize his times tables. I like several things about the game. The directions are clear and simple. The game is easy to use. The variety of levels provides both practice and and a challenge. The Math Whiz has been durable thus far, it has been dropped to no ill effect.

There are a few minor issues with the Math Whiz. As others have mentioned, the display is not backlit, making play in a darkened car or room impractical. I have not, however, had issues reading it over my child's shoulder. The buttons can be "sticky", meaning a child may have to press a button hard or more than once. This has frustrated my son, who wants to be as fast as possible, on several occasions.

Despite the minor problems, my son looks forward to using the Math Whiz daily. Children who, like him, enjoy competing with themselves will play repeatedly to beat their previous time. This helps them develop automaticity with math facts, without the whining and complaining that usually come with drilling. I think this toy achieves its intended purpose- to make practicing math facts fun.

"Review from 2nd grade mom", In my daughter's second grade class she is timed on addition and subtraction. The idea is to get kids to know the answer to 9+8 (for example) without thinking about it. Her teacher said that while she knew 9+8 is 17, she needed to get it out quicker. The teacher recommended flash cards to increase speed. While flash cards are fine, they aren't all that exciting for kids. This is like electronic flashcards, and my child finds it enjoyable. There is a flashcard mode and a calculator mode. There are also different levels. So level 1 has simple, Kindergarten or 1st grade problems, and level 8 has problems I had to think about for second. I have my child use it 10 minutes each night and I don't hear any complaints. She brought it in to show her teacher and she was impressed - said it would make a great center activity in the classroom. I plan on buying the teacher one for class use. I can't comment on the durability because I haven't had it very long. This is a great product either for the child that needs some assistance improving their math skills, or for the child who excels and needs a challenge.

"Not that great.", I had an electronic owl/calcultor about 30 years ago that I liked better than this. I was hoping it would be interesting enough to my kids they'd want to play it, but nope, to predictable. It's not fun for them. It does have many functions, but it's too boring in it's games.

"Makes Drilling Fun", My 8-year-old daughter has a logical mind but was bad at memorizing basic math facts, and, at least at her school, teachers don't want to do the kind of old-fashioned "drilling" that allowed me to learn this stuff when I was a kid. So we had to do the drilling at home -- but my daughter hated the flash cards, and got stressed out by them.
This little gadget has been a godsend. Both she and her 6-year-old brother love it and play with it like a favorite toy. It has a great many levels, so you can start your child at just the right point. They can work on it again and again on their own -- a very different feeling from getting a flash card question wrong in front of Mom. It's always encouraging and upbeat -- and they learn their math! I love it!

"If you need help getting speedy with your math facts, this is it!", With the help of "Memorize in Minutes," my 4th grader was able to master her times tables, but she has always been incredibly slow. Her teacher would always tell me that she's great in math, but it just takes her forever to recall her multiplication facts. I was at my wits end trying to help her get faster. We tried flash cards, repetitive work sheets, nothing helped -- and she HATED it.

So last month we started using the Math Whiz and it's been great. There are different levels so you can work on one fact at the time (eg., the 6s) or mix them all up. (They even go into double digits). We have been working on one multiplication fact at a time and have made a game with breaking her record and getting faster and faster. In only a few weeks, she can do each math fact in under 20 seconds, which is phenomenal for her. On her lastest math test (where they are multiplying triple digits together, she was the first one done in her class (and got them all correct!) This has never happened before.

The other great thing about Math Whiz is you can use it for a variety of ages and abilities. There's also addition, subtraction, and division, and you can make the problems as easy or hard as you want. So my youngest is using it for addition. Both of my children are not at all competitive and don't like working under pressure, but for some reason, they enjoy competing against themselves with the Math Whiz and trying to beat their old time.

If your child is having trouble with math facts, I recommend looking at the "Memorize in Minutes" book. The teacher's edition is available through Amazon (or if you just need the student book, check out www.multiplication.com). Then when you get the math facts down, the Math Whiz is great for improving upon speed.

This is the most useful educational toy I have ever purchased. Highly recommended!

"Good educational toy", Daughter loves to play this and it is helping her with multiplication and division.

Only negative about this purchase is the shipper DHL is horrible. They are very unreliable, always takes 3 or 4 phone calls to them to get item ordered delivered and items are never delived in a timely manner.

Product is good though.

"My 7 year old Niece loves it!", Great product for enriching the minds capabilty to mentally calculate an answer to each of the different mathematical combinations on the Math Whiz. Great Product!

"Worth Every Penny", I found this item to be more than what I expected. I love that you can set the level that your kids are doing the math problems at. This is a wonderful feature that allows both my children to use this product to its full extent. My oldest son loves to see how quickly he can finish the math problems.
