"A simple adapter that does its job"
This is a very simple adapter that takes a pair of male left / right RCA cables and splits them into 3 center / sub, left/right, and rear left/rear right 1/8 outputs. The adapter does not require an external power supply.

The adapter does its job and seems well constructed. I haven't had any problems.

Please note that this includes an adapter only; no RCA or 1/8 cables are included.

Some Logitech speakers systems include this product so if you're ordering this with a speaker system, you should check to see if this purchase is necessary.

The purpose of this is to take something that's designed to talk to a stereo system via RCA and convert it into an input source for low end 5.1 PC speakers. For example, I have my Xbox 360 taking its RCA output, putting it through this device and outputting to a Creative Inspire T6100 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System.

The 5.1 is simulated with this system but it's better than not using your rear speakers at all. If this is a problem, you should probably be thinking about optical connections and a THX certified speaker system.

"Just what I needed"
I bought this adapter to listen to Playstation 3 audio directly though a pair of headphones. Granted, that isn't what it was designed for, but it works great for this purpose. You get full stereo audio from the green plug and the volume level is good. Exactly what I needed, and for $5, you can't expect more.

"Did exactly what it said it would"
Don't listen to the people who cry about "this won't give you true surround sound". Yeah it won't, but I've now got sound blasting out of all 5 speakers and that's good enough for me when I'm rockin on Guitar Hero! A great tool for any game console.

"Meh..."
K so I bought the Logitech x-530 5.1 speakers with full intent of having awesome surround sound on my xbox 360...problem: this adapter that came with the speakers DOES NOT give you full surround sound. If you already have it, you can know this by running a game's surround sound test like the Halo 3 one, when the grunt says "speaker behind you over there" it is not solely coming from the back speakers, it still comes from the front speakers, and the center speaker does not get it's dedicated Dialog channel. :( It made me sad.

"better than several adapters"
I use this adapter to get sound through headphones when using my PlayStation 3. It works extremely well and luckily the volume comes out perfectly so I don't even need to adjust in-game settings. I also plug 2.0 PC speakers into this adapter at the same time. I can even get sound out of both the speakers and the headphones at the same time but they output lesser volumes. Overall, this product is great for the price because buying an RCA-3.5 mm adapter and a stereo coupler would come out to twice the price, twice the adapters, and only on stereo jack.

As far as surround sound, this obviously isn't going to be the most amazing product ever seeing as how it's just dual channel sound but if you use it like I do, you will be extremely satisfied.

What our customer's say!

"Fantastic Product", This adapter perfectly converts your video console's sound output to amazing 5.1, with outstanding clarity.

It's incredibly easy to use, with colour-coded inputs, and works great every time.

I definitely recommend this to anybody looking to get their gaming system into the 5.1 world.

"Does what it is supposed to do", Of course this doesn't give you true 5.1. You need to be sending it a 5.1 signal to get true 5.1 surround sound. You pass in a stereo signal over RCA. That's all you can pass in. It is a passive connector. Meaning it doesn't actually change the signal. The only way you can even come close to 5.1 is if you had your stereo signal hooked up to something that did Dolby ProLogic II and that only simulates 5.1. It isn't true 5.1 sound either.

In order do you what you want need something that takes in a 5.1 digital signal and outputs to the three 3.5mm cables. The Creative DDTS-100 will do this. It can also do the Dolby ProLogic II and NEO:6. Unfortunately they stopped making it and you will pay much more over the $100 retail price for it on E-Bay. Notice it costs over $100 compared to the $6.

For anybody who has a computer, they now make Dolby Digital Live sound cards which convert everything to Dolby Digital 5.1 before passing it out of the soundcard.

That being said, if you understand what you are buying this connector is a steal for the price.

"SAVE MONEY !!! This little gadget can save you $100's on a surround sound system for your TV.", This amazing little coupler allowed me to take my Logitech X-540 5.1 speaker sytem, generally used for video games and computers, and turn it into a complete surround sound system for my TV. You'll be happy that you only spent a few dollars for this coupler, instead of spending $100's on a surround sound system designed for your multimedia system. You really can't tell the difference!

"Works well", Does just what it is supposed to do. Puts out stereo instead of 5.1 sound though.

"Excellent product!!", Just what I needed to plug my dvd or my laptop to 5.1 audio, great little product at a great price

"Now what it seems", Be aware that if you are using a stereo source (two channels, red/white), you can butter it up all you want, but you are not getting surround sound. The closest you can physically get to true non-stereo sound with a stereo source is using Dolby Pro-Logic and Pro-Logic II. But to achieve that, you need a Dolby Pro-Logic/II receiver which would cost a pretty penny. This clearly does not do this.

What this adapter does, is the same thing you would achieve by splicing the rear left, front left, and center speaker wire together and connecting it to a single-channel plug (a white RCA plug). Then the same thing being repeated for the right channel with front right, rear right, and center.

Using this adapter, the sound will be all around you, but it won't be surround sound. You won't hear space ships and laser blasts flying around you, you won't hear dialog coming directly from the TV, music from the left and right, and special effects from behind you, nor will you hear any of the other advantages of a real surround sound system. It recreates two really big stereo speakers. That is all. You will hear one set of sounds on the left speakers, and another set of sounds on the right speakers. The same sound that is in your FRONT left speaker will be coming out of your REAR left speaker. Your center speaker just outputs the sound from both front left and front right speaker. The exact same thing can be accomplished by just running a speaker wire from your left speaker to another speaker behind you. What you will hear is two distinctive channels (left and right), but duplicated and sent to the back speakers. Actual 5.1 surround consists of 6 individual channels, one per speaker, plus the subwoofer.

This device does not allow 5.1 surround sound. If you buy an expensive 5.1 speaker set, you are selling yourself short.

Now if you don't care about this and you are just trying to utilize your 5.1 setup on a stereo source, by all means, the product works great. But if you are trying to avoid buying an AV receiver, you will be strongly disappointed.

"Great analog adapter", Great product, but STILL analog audio. IS THERE OTHER PRODUCT THAT HAVE INSTEAD RCA IMPUTS, OPTICAL/SPDIF. I want to connect optical out from tv to the logitech 5.1 speakers(green, black, and yellow), and get DIGITAL SOUND? IS THAT POSIBLE?

PLEASEEEEEEEEE LET ME KNOW

"found what I was looking for!", I ma glad that I did not listen to the guys at Best Buy. They suggested multiply wires to do the job that this product was designed to do. Thanks!

"It works", Now I get the sound from all 5 channels, Not true surround sound as othrs have mentioned. But good enough for me!

"z-5500 rca stero adapter", this is ok for the logitech z-5500 b/c it doesn't come with this adapter. only thing i don't like about this is compared to a coax or optical connection this adapter doesn't keep up with the volume, example. if your tv doesn't have optical out but stero out you use this connector and so if the volume needs to go higher you need to turn up the tv volume and the z-5500 volume, slightly annoying, but it works
