"Scared to death of Algebra?", Having been out of school for more years than I can remember the one thing
that frightened me the most was Algebra. I was horrible in this subject in school. Even with a tutor I got a D in Algebra 1 and 2. It never made any sense to me, but that is rapidly changing now. "A bit disappointing", I purchased this two-disk DVD and looked forward to refreshing my knowledge of mathematics. I realize there need not be much rehearsal for this type of training aid, but I was a bit disappointed as a mistake was made during part of a presentation and not corrected later.

In short, I do not recommend it.

"Good stuff", I have all his DVD's. The lessons are great. They cover the basics that are important in the class. Of course not all information is covered in the DVD's. Think of it as an overview of hot topics. I have used these DVD's before I took a class and them reviewed them along the way. I also have purchased some of the idoit and dummy guides as a type of work book. They all together give you a different way to look at the math martial. Because as you know, most math books are written by brainy math folks, and they are not the easiest to follow.

"Love this course!", Math Tutor[dot]com is awesome. Growing up I had always struggled with math. It remained a stumbling block for years. But I recently started college, and math is now a big part of my life. Without Mr Gibson's DVD, I would not be faring very well. What I really like about this series is how it's bundled into bite sized bits. It makes digesting much easier. No drudgery here! Not only is my math improving, I'm actually having fun while learning. I would recommend this course to anyone. Thanks a lot, Mr Gibson!

"It's not hard if you know how to do it.......", The worst thing a teacher can do is complicate the subject they are teaching. The best thing a teacher can do is to make the subject they are teaching as simple and as easy to understand as possible. I'm going back to college after years of not wanting to because of the bad experiences I've had with unqualified teachers. Most teachers I've had were more interested in showing the class how smart they must be in order to teach their class, which requires them to complicate the very things being taught. This is exactly why I've rebelled against going back to school in the first place. Luckily there are teachers like Jason Gibson, who want you to actually learn what they are teaching. I'm 28 years old, with the education similar to a freshman in high school, but with the help of Gibson, and learning not to be affected by lame self absorbed college teachers, I'll fulfill my dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. Hey, it's better late than never. Don't be a fool, go back to school!

"Math Video Tutor", Great product. Gets the job done. For a low price you get hours of top quality tutoring. If you are taking any of these classes get the DVD. I am very pleased with the ones I purchased.

"Excellent learning method -- before or during a basic algebra class!", Yes, the video quality of this DVD is lackluster. It was the very first dvd in a series -- created off a limited budget several years ago to help specific students. No one knew if this idea would take off or not mainstream wise. It did. Fear not, once you make it through this one, the visual/audio quality is way better on the others in this series.

This "entire series" is a very good supplement to accompany your classes. I suggest having your children watch this DVD even before starting an Algebra class. It will make math topics easier for them. The only reason students struggle in math is because it's a sequential subject. It's not really that hard, but once you fall behind, it can turn into a nightmare catching up. Don't let that happen!

We can delve into the shoddy-dismal teaching quality when it comes to math as well -- especially in the United States. But, that's a topic of huge debate already. If you're into preparing your kids for college, definately supplement their math program at home (buy them quality materials to use over the summers, etc). You can save them a lot of pain down the road. Once again, math's sequential, and not really hard if you stay on top of things. If you're good at algebra, geometry, and trig. by the time you get to calculus, you will wonder why you were even worried about it to begin with.

Some members are complaining that this single DVD doesn't cover all the topics. If a 10 hour dvd covered a full high school year/16 week college semester, run on out and buy yourself a lottery ticket. You found a genie.

This DVD's point: it gives you a solid background and serves as a starting point to help you through your class and your homework. With that in mind, this DVD is excellent. It covers many topics at the Intermediate Algebra level. If in college, get Algebra 2 to finish it off.

The Algebra 2/Pre-calculus DVD's cover topics introduced in College Algebra as well.

P.S. Attn: Abbey, the snotty Physics major. I hope this DVD appears too easy for you. If it didn't, you're seriously lacking in skills and common sense. Well, at least you're succeeding in one of those areas. Seeing as you would have mastered algebra already, I don't see why you even bought this DVD. This is geared toward those learning Algebra 1 for the first time or as a refresher.






"Excellent content..", The content is very excellent but let down by the quality of the presentation which makes this DVD dull to watch after a short
period of time.

"Great learning tool!", The Math Video Tutor has really helped refresh my math skills. It is a simple presentation that focuses completely on the subject with no visual distractions. It's so easy to understand and follow that I wish I'd had it back in high school. I highly recommend it to anyone of any age who needs help with math or wants to brush up.

"Very helpful", There are few Algebra DVD videos to be found and this was the one I could find at the time. I only wish the production of the DVD video had been more polished and professionally done. Otherwise, I believe you will find it helpful to see problems being explained as they are done. Try viewing it on your computer, instead of the TV. The only reason for a 4 star rather than a five is the production issue.
