"I've Seen the Light"
Love these lights! I got the Griffin iBeam Flashlight and Laser Pointer for iPod recently and have been completely de-lighted . . . er, en-lightened! As the description says, the small efficiently designed little "sub-pods" pop right onto the top, offering either a medium bright flashlight or a red laser pointer. As a university teacher, I am frequently involved in presentation situations where I am in the back of a darkened room commenting on Powerpoint or other computer images. Since I often use my iPod in the class as well, the flashlight is a perfect momentary plug-in to check notes. The laser is useful and works well, allowing me to focus attention on areas of a painting, image, map, or text with ease.
Counterpoint to previous caveats:
This very inexpensive product does not need an on/off switch! The simple convention of snapping the small unit it in or out is a clean design and works very easily. As for it being not "cool" . . . well, if "cool" is a smooth move, then a one-handed gesture like "snap-shoot-unsnap" works pretty well for me. How often does one need to point to every frame in a presentation anyway? The product has met my meeting and classroom needs quite nicely.
The flashlight is not that strong but was clearly not meant to be a constant source of illumination. It works fine to check the random emergency note.
FLASH! with the introduction of the new 30 and 60G video iPods, you can now run your Powerpoint presentations SOLELY FROM THE IPOD! One iPod is running the presentation, your old iPod or iPod mini has your laser pointer or flashlight. Classroom or meeting materials? An iPod in each holster! Bang! Killer info delivery, with no muss or fuss. How utterly cool is that?! I'm in heaven. "Go to the light." Great products.

"Looks cool at first, but..."
Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty clever gadget. However, it's mising one thing in terms of usability: an on/off switch. This really limits the usability of both, since it's typical to want to turn the flashlight off for a moment, or the laser pointer on for a moment. I can't see me using this laser pointer in a real presentation, since it'd either be on all the time, or I'd be pulling the light in and out all the time (neither of which make me look cool).

So if you're going to buy this, keep this limitation in mind.

"Close the patent office"
Finally.

Next time I can't find my keys in the dark all I need to do is find this thingie and fumble it into my iPod's holes. What a lifesaver!

And in the same box is the laser pointer so I don't have to stop listening to 50cent just because I'm doing some silly corporate presentation!

While it is a little tough to dance and fry an airline pilot's eyes at the same time, it is the latest craze so I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

;-)

What our customer's say!

"Will not work on he 5G iPods", Disappointing as it is not something that works on the new iPods and Griffin has discontinued it

"Works only with old ipods", This was touted as good with "all dockable ipods"but does not work with Ipod video, etc. I gave it away to someone with an older ipod. There needs to be a slot next to the earphone jack for this to work. Ad is deceptive!

"Greatest Cat Toy Ever!", Okay, so go ahead and laugh at me. Only a cat person could turn an iPod into a toy for their pet, but it works great! I hated paying over $21 for batteries to fill up the laser pointer for my cat every month. This is such a great solution. No batteries needed because the iPod just recharges in the dock.

"Not for the new IPOD", I got this as a Christmas present, and the person buying it knew what IPOD I had (IPOD Video), but there is nothing on this page or on the packaging to indicate what versions of the IPOD it works with. So disappointed! Amazon needs to modify the item description to indicated which versions of the IPOD this works with and which it doesn't.

"fun but imperfect", The main problem is battery life, but that is not a huge obstacle for brief uses.

I put the lanterns on my car key chain. It's convenient, and the torch or flash light really comes in handy in places like Disney World or the road at night when looking at maps: focused light is better than overhead car light.

Also, the torch or flash light is brighter than is generally credited. It will not work as a fully functional lantern, but if it's dark enough to warrant a lamp, you can see the ground with 20/20 vision.
