Monster Wireless Transmitter does not charge 4G iPod, it will transmit but when you plug it into the Nano 4G I get a message , unsupported device, charger will not work.


"Works Great, but NOT on iPod Touch Gen 2", This FM transmitter is the best, hands down, tested and proved. I used 3 others from different companies before giving in and spending the extra money to get the monster. We have one in every car now, a hefty investment. They work infinitely better than anything else i've personally tried or seen my friends use.

PROBLEM: I gave in an got the iPod touch Generation 2. I plug in the monster and the iPod says that the device is incompatible and will not charge the ipod. I have to acknowledge the warning and move on. Music will still play through the iCar BUT it doesnt charge the iPod. THis defeats the purpose of having a powered FM transmitter. This worked fine on my first generation iPod touch, but not on the 2nd gen. Be careful, I don't think anyone has anything out yet that will charge the iPod Touch Gen 2 AND play music from it at the same time yet.

If that problem doesn't effect you, I'd say give in, spend the money and buy it.

"So so....", It works so so..... Some static is detectable. Benefit of charging the ipod while in use in the car.

"If possible, use a cassette adaptor instead", This was possibly the best radio broadcaster that I've used for my iPod. That said, the utility of these was rather lacking as I live in the city and drive through traffic constantly. If I wasn't having enough problems finding open stations, driving past other vehicles inhibits the broadcast quality.

In the end, I realized that my car's cassette player was a wonderful option to have installed. Any lossage possible over that connection is nowhere near as bad as the unpredictable FM spectrum. Until my next car comes with a direct input jack, this is just a car charger for me.

"There are better ways...", I have tried 3 different Ipod adapters in my wife's car, and one more in my truck. The Monster cable works well enough but its biggest drawback is that it's very difficult to change the channel. Unlike some other transmitters that have simple up/down buttons, the Monster cable needs to be reprogrammed to change channels, which you can't do while driving.

"Great iPod Adaptor for your car!", This thing works great! Much more compact than some of the other adaptors I've tried. Great for if you travel lots and have to get rental cars, will charge your iPod too!

"It only works half the time", I bought this product on Amazon used for about half off the original price from a highly rated seller. It arrived quickly and appeared in great condition. I plugged it in and it didn't work. Then it worked - then it went haywire. So far I've enjoyed a few songs on it but it wasn't worth the money.

"The Monster A-IP-FM-CH-PS versus the iRiver AFT 100", I recently bought the iRiver AFT 100 and the Monster A-IP-FM-CH-PS Wireless FM Transmitter and tested both of them in my car, an Acura TL. The Acura has the FM antenna embedded in the rear window which I understand makes using these devices more challenging than if the antenna was an external one. As I live in Tampa, there are a lot of FM stations and so finding an unused frequency without an active station right next to it is a bit of a challenge.

Findings: on both units, using a frequency in the middle of the FM dial or higher yielded better results than using one at the lower end of the spectrum (88 to 92). I used different types of music to test the units and found that quieter music was a more challenging test as the background noise was not masked during the quieter passages as it is with Rock or Rap. The bottom line: the iRiver unit performed much better than the Monster unit hands down. The iRiver unit put out a stronger signal limiting background hiss, had a fuller frequency response with limited high frequency clipping and a full rich low end. The Monster unit had a weaker signal and so as I drove there was intermittent audible interference that sounded like a weak FM station when it occasionally fades. The frequency response was somewhat abridged on the Monster unit but it was not very noticeable in the low frequency range and if I hadn't compared it to the iRiver unit, it would have been satisfactory.

Obviously, a direct connection between the mp3 player and radio head unit would have sounded much better but if that option isn't available to you, then the iRiver AFT 100 is the next best thing.

Note: You really have to experiment with finding unused frequencies on the FM band (they will have a loud hiss) and changing the frequency on the FM transmitter to match them. This process by the way is also easier on the iRiver unit. If you spend some time, you will probably be happy with the results. Don't expect the three preprogrammed settings to work well, in my test all three worked terribly.
