"The Best First Person Shooter ive ever played for mac"
Excellent. Magnificent. With awsome graphics, 20 characters to play, tanks, bikes, fighters and gunships its a game to remember. The online capabilities are great if you don't mind limited selection. superb replayability for single player also and a number of special abilities you can use to your advantage (a personal favorite has to be the airstrike for the recon droid, a special ability for the snipers) BUY THIS GAME IF YOU WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED FOR HOURS!!!!!

"Fun game, terrible AI."
Star Wars Battlefront somewhat worth the price -- see if you can find it used or on sale. Despite the 3-star rating, I am hooked on this game, but it has some shortcomings.

1) The computer AI is fairly bad. Highly scripted. Units tend to clump at way points on their way to an objective and often just stand around doing nothing. Units rush headlong into the guns of the enemy. Lucas Arts should have spent a LOT more time on the AI.

2) The single player scenarios are repetitive.

3) Jedi/Sith are impossible to kill... but since they have stupid AI, it's fairly easy to avoid them, or draw them off.

4) Multiplayer games get seriously laggy with a lot of opponents. I haven't joined a game with over 8 or so players without having serious lag even with a low ping to the server.

5) PC users and Mac users can't play together unless the PC user logs into GameRanger. GameSpy doesn't support Mac users for this game, which is lame. Not really Lucas Arts fault... GameSpy raised it's licensing price for the Mac version and the Aspyr had to turn them down to control costs. GameSpy are a greedy jerks for making the license cost more on the Mac than the PC.

Despite all that, multiplayer is a hoot and I do like playing Battlefront... but the dumb AI allows human competitors to take advantage of the best places to snipe or the best capture points to get right away. Instead of winning by capturing all the spawn points, teams usually win by killing off the most enemies.

Also, the "Capture the Flag" multiplayer is the only game type given, which is a real bummer.

So, the game is fun, but there are better multiplayer games out there... Still, there's something about driving an AT-AT across the Hoth snow that's fun as heck.

"It's pretty good."
i thought this game was good, but it was slower than the PS2 version unless u have like a mac G5.

"Star Wars Battlefront"
Get this game. Now, that said, I'll cover through this review a couple of cautions, then mention a perspective, then finish with Fun, Fun, Fun!

By the way, have I mentioned that you should get this game? Definitely, this game is a must if you've ever thought it'd be fun to be a defender of the Old Republic, or if you'd rather defeat "Rebel scum." Or, even if you've thought you might like to take part in any of those grand battles of the Star Wars universe.

Now for a couple of cautions. I was exceptionally excited after getting this game. And then upon initial installation (which was very smooth and simple), I was asked for the code to enter which would begin the game, easily found on the back side of the DVD-rom plastic case.

Or, so I thought. The code didn't work. So, thinking I might have entered the wrong code, I looked all over the DVD, then the inside of the DVD case, and then on the all of the installation paperwork, the advertisement insert ... nothing. No joy. And I tasted the sour of a software lemon. Oy!

[...] It seems the software code was misprinted on many of the software cases (mine included.) And with great ease, the correct software code was given to me at that web address.

While the first caution was fairly easily solved over the internet, my second caution relates to my misunderstanding relating to use of the DVD. I thought the DVD was only for the initial installation. Ohhh, nooooo. Keep the DVD available; the game won't run without it. I suppose the payoff (Fun, Fun, Fun!) is definitely worth it, but having a Powerbook, I tend to travel extensively, and running the DVD drains the battery, and drains it but good. So, for me this was a bit of a frustration, so now I play the game with the power connected.

So, play the game I do! I plugged my computer in, inserted the DVD, and double clicked on the application's icon.

And I was off! Into the brilliant universe of Star Wars, I was immediately immersed. John Williams soundtrack sounded with deep tones to start me on my gaming experience.

If you want to play on the Dune Sea of Tatooine, or the ice plateaus of Hoth, you can! If you want to play a clone soldier in the Old Republic, or act as a stormtrooper of the Empire, you can! This is an amazing experience.

Now, before the Fun can truly continue, I need to tell you my perspective. I'm horrible at Star Wars Battlefront. I can't win this game, but I'm not a good gamer. I just love playing and losing. (Some day I'll win this game. Some day.)

Have I mentioned that you should get this game? "A long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far way..." (You know you want to.)

Please contact me with any questions. And have Fun, Fun, Fun!

"Battlefront", Bought this months ago and still playing it regularly. Runs great on Intel Mac. Wish it had more levels/worlds.

"Star Wars Battlefront MAC/POWERPC", I have an Intel MacBook, the game plays ok but could have a faster FPS. Rumor is the Lucas Arts will come out with patch for this game in 07 for Intel machines....then it could be a great game, playing both sides your choice good or my prefered Dark force side!!!

"GOOOD", This game is not as good as battlefront 2 but it's still a great game. you can play as whoever you want. the only problem is that the computers are stupid, they stand around doing nothing unless you tell them to follow you.

"AWSOME ", Love it. You can be 4 diffrent classes: Soldrier, Heavy gunner, Sniper, Piolit, or Special. Be on the Republic, Sepritist, Rebels, or Empire! And have help from four diffrent heros, Republic: Mace Windu, Sepritist: Count Dooku, Empire: Darth Vader, and Rebels: Luke Skywalker. Fight on 9 diffrent planets: Tattione, Bespin, Endor, Naboo, Kamino, Kashyyk, Hoth, Yavin, Geonosis, and Rhen Var. Also do diffrent maps for each of the Planets. Well hope you like Star Wars BattleFront and if you dont like this Lucas Arts came out with a sequel to the first Star Wars BattleFront. May the Force be with you... Always!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Awesomely Action!", It is an action packed game. I actually feel llike a character in the movie. I love the places, because they are so detailed. They have so many cool spots to go.

"AWESOME", This is a very nice game. You can be a variety of different charecters. Even though you can not be a jedi, this is a very nice game. I would reccomend it to anyone who thinks the Rebels, Galactic Empire, Clones, or droid army is cool.

"Review for the Alaskan Apple Users Group", Hoth. Naboo. Geonosis. If you recognize those names, you're familiar with some of the biggest Star Wars battles. With Aspyr's release of Star Wars: Battlefront you can now join in these and other epic campaigns spanning five of the six Star Wars films.

Battlefront let's you play on either side of all the major land battle in Lucas' famous movies as well as a few extra battles that fill in the gaps. It's upcoming sequel ([...]), which may or may not come to the Mac, will include content from the final film. This game does the best job yet of tying the whole series together which is nice since the DVD set containing all three movies won't be out for a while.

Unfortunately it spans the story with no real narration. Despite mood-setting clips from the movies and mission briefs in the voices of film characters, there is no real plot explanation as you play. So unless you're a Star Wars fan the game plays as a bunch of loosely related skirmishes with no real continuity.

If you are a fan though, the sound effects, units, and settings straight from the films will make every battle an exciting exploration of the saga's most memorable elements. The game has a grand scope, but it trades that content for less satisfying gameplay than some other Star Wars games.

In addition to lacking a rich plot, which is a hallmark of Star Wars, there is no character development. Each battle is isolated and is a simple game of territories where you must help your side gain and maintain control of several landmarks while fending off the enemy. Hold those key points long enough, while inflicting more damage on your foes than they do on you, and you will win.

While this is a thoroughly enjoyable multiplayer game model, it doesn't work well as a single player game. The "galactic conquest" mode compensates a little by adding a strategic element to the selection of your battles, but the game still plays like an online game against bots all the time.

So you would think the online play was better. Generally that is true. The opponents are more challenging and everything else plays exactly the same. Unfortunately, while Mac-to-Mac online play is supported via GameRanger, PC/Mac play is only available in direct IP or local LAN games. This severely limits the potential of this network-centric game.

Ultimately Battlefront could be an addictive online game, but the Mac-only online play cripples that potential and leaves the game with little replay value. Still, it's really fun to explore the universe, weapons, and vehicles of Star Wars.

If you're a Star Wars fan who has been waiting for a new Mac release, go get this one right away. If you're just looking for a fun game to invest in, keep shopping.

"Great fun - but expensive", Star Wars Battlefront - especially due to the notorious lack of a broad variety of games for the Mac - is a great game. Of course, you need a 128 MB Ram Video Card to enjoy all the little bits and pieces, but in general it is the kind of easy play you would like to have after work...

...but dare you to play the game on holidays - like I did. I got it in the morning - and got instantly addicted to it. I played it on "medium" difficulty. Not eight hours later, I was done with both Solo-Campaigns and the good side "galactic conquer". On this speed I will have completed the game within another 2-3 hours.
Then I will be forced of either playing it again (difficulty: hard) or do instant action games...

So, Star Wars Battlefront is a must for the Mac (if you have the "recommended hardware" to fully enjoy it). BUT it is neither a real challenge for the experienced gamer nor a long-lasting investment. Five for being a Star Wars with great graphics and the great shooter - but four in total.

And by the way, in case you have purchased the game and found yourself with an invalid registration code on the back: don't panic. On the Aspyr Homepage (Battlefront, Support) you will find an auto-completion tool.

"Great Game", After playing the PC version on a friend's computer so long ago I was shocked to see Battlefront coming out for the Mac platform at a very retail price of $49.99. After waiting a year to port the game is almost seems too little, too late, too expensive. Oh well, I'll probably end up buying it anyway. It just seems a slap in the face to sell it to us Mac users for $50 when it was released for PC over a year ago and now sells for them at $20. Not to mention the fact that Battlefront 2 is coming out for PC soon. Ouch.
