"Don't waste your money" This game is a waste of money ... it won't run on quite a few CD-RW and DVD+/-R/W drives. BOTH Ubisoft and Starforce said the problem is with my computer. Avoid products from both companies in the future.
"This game killed my computer" This game killed both my cd-rom drives. It Cost me $142 to fix my computer after this
"Fun game, not worth the trouble" You will probably be lucky in getting this game to run. I have tried it on two computers; in one case it wouldn't run without a particular type of 3D accelerator, and in the other case it wouldn't run at all (the latter was a high-performance machine with the necessary video hardware and everything.) So I have this game that doesn't run on either of the two machines that I own personally, and Ubisoft technical support doesn't do anything. I have sent them three messages and none have rendered a response from these people. I'm not saying that this is a bad game or anything. I'm saying that you'll need just the right system to make it run, and if it doesn't run then you've wasted your money, because you will not get technical support.
"As good as it gets for stealth fans . . ." The good . . . Chaos Theory is by far my favorite stealth action game out right now. First off, it features completely believable elements. The story is conceptually possible and historically accurate where it needs to be and all of the technology that graces Sam is rooted in current technology development of the U.S. Military. Why is this so impressive? Look at the Metal Gear series. They are undeniably great games, but the plot is always so incomprehensably strange that it's almost a turn-off.
The graphics here are drop-dead gorgeous. The shadow modeling is incredibly impressive - and rightfully so, as shadows play a very integral role in the whole game. The lighting effects are equally impressive and the game features a great reflection engine. Also worth mentioning here is the dynamic weather system in the game, which can really play into the whole stealth expereince. Lightening can ruin your shadowy cover, but can also provide background noise to dampen you actions. Rain is also an enemy, as Sam's wet footprints can give him away.
The sound design is also really great,as it plays a very important role in keeping Sam's cover. The sound track is interactive and delivered in Dolby.
Game play is fun, as well. The single player is nothing new, per se - much of the same as Pandora, with a couple new moves. That siad, there are still some really great moments and the player can approach a mission any way that the wish to - guns blazing or in the shadows. Where the game really shines is in co-op and multiplayer. Co-op is undeniably fun and proves to be unintentionally hilarious at times. The multiplayer is really great, though. It's like nothing else that is out today. One side plays the spies and the other the mercs, who are trying to protect data disks. Sounds like capture the flag, right? Close enough, but it's the little touches that make it so fun.
And the bad . . . My biggest complaint is that the game suffers from Doom3-itis. That is, it's so freaking dark that most of the amazing textures and mapping goes unnoticed. Sam can also get lost in the shadows, appearing only as a set of disembodied green orbs (night vision gogs). There's also that little program that some other people have brought up. It definitely a nasty little thing and crippled the lesser of my 2 computers, but left the better untouched. Dunno why it only causes problems some times, but it is slightly annoying. The other really big problem is that it takes one heck of a system to run this thing at full detail. I'm perplexed as to how it can run so smoothly on an Xbox, which a basically a P.C. platform, but it struggles to deliver the same quality on a high-spec gaming rig. I CAN break 60 FPS with full detail with one system (high spec machine), but the other struggles to stay above 10 FPS (medium/low spec).
But, great game. If you own an Xbox, I'd suggest buying it for that before trying to run the P.C. version.
"Starforce this starforce that, most people do not have problems" As stated in the title, most people do not have problems with the starforce protection. If you do, update your cd\dvd drivers, thats the case with most of the problems with it.
If you want to remove Starforce (you cant play starforce enabled games), go here: http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55

Other then that, this game is awesome. Looks much better then the xbox countpart, plays well with KB+Mouse, and great online play!

What our customer's say!
"Couldn't use on Vista", I couldn't find any specs on this product about if it would run on Vista before purchasing it, but for the price, it was worth a try. After installing, my pc crashed. I had to do a restore to get everything back to normal. I'll be willing to bet it's the protection software that caused the problem. Some PC's w/Vista will take it, some won't. I might have been able to eventually make it work but didn't want to mess with it. Gave it to my friend who uses XP, it worked perfect. I couldn't give it a rating only because I couldn't run it. Not upset tho.
"gives you repair experience", i read the reviews and installed it anyway, ignoring the reviews i always read. the game itself was great. lot's of fun. after you enjoy the game you get to experience computer repair.if you enjoy computer repair, that is an added bonus.
"meh.......decent game ", Having played the other games in the series I have to say these games are getting better, but at the same time getting worse. The first thing I really hated about this game and probably would have given it 4 stars without it, is Starforce. Starforce is really just a pain, and although others have had more problems with it than I did, I still had to write few emails to get the game to even start up. Enough about that, I have to say first, I really liked the variety of ways to take out your enemies in CT. More ways to kill=more fun, such as the sneak and slash method. Graphics are pretty, sounds good, and the story is average. I think the two worst things about this game is the fairly linear level design, and the unrealistic dark environments. The level design is not really a design that has replay in mind, and the constant dark is just aggrevating because you have to use NVG's practically the whole game. The enemy AI is alot better than in previous titles though, and really respond well to your actions and sounds. Other than those few gripes about the game, it is enjoyable and a must have if you enjoyed the previous titles because it is better in many ways.
"Starforce protection drivers and too much night vision.", This game is protected by Starforce protection drivers. Many people have experienced problems with these drivers and even Ubisoft has recently dropped Starforce on all their upcoming games.
I am a huge fan of the Splinter Cell series and I loved the original Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow. Despite the starforce drivers, I was disappointed with the actual gameplay in Chaos Theory. Mainly because you HAVE to use night vision just about all the way through this game. The original Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow each had a perfect balance of using night vision. Chaos theory makes you use it constantly. This game is practically pitch black everywhere. The levels are also not as fun as in the Splinter 1 and 2.
The graphics are a bit better here with better textures and antialising, but to me it's not worth the Starforce drivers and just not as fun as the original two Splinter Cell games.
"It is a shame...", I would love to purchase this game, but I have decided to nolonger purchase games with Starforce protection.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Good game, but some serious issues", This game is fun to play. It builds on the basic premise of the previous splinter cell games, but I think that overall, it is better than the other two. You have a few more moves, and some extra gadgets, and the interface has been streamlined. There is a map, but it takes a bit of practice to use effectively. Still no compass, although you do finally have a knife. Level design and artwork are good although I don't find them to be that much different from earlier games. You now have a gizmo that temporarly knocks out most electronics, including lights and security cameras, which sometimes makes it a bit too easy. So, for overall fun of playing, 4 stars.
There are some serious problems, though, that really ruin it. I have a pretty "vanilla" computer set-up: a dell 8300, with enough memory and a radeon 9800 xt graphics card; I don't overclock or have any weird hardware or software. I have the most up to date patched version of the game, and the latest video drivers. And still, this game crashes a lot. I mean, every few minutes on some levels. I get numerous messages that the graphic card has had to reset itself [something that I never knew it could do, before I owned this game], and I have even had 1 "blue screen of death," something that I have literally never seen with any other program in several years of using windows xp. I don't know whether the problem is the "security" software that comes with it, or what... but in the case of the blue screen crash, my entire saved game was lost (I was about 2/3 of the way through) and I had to start all over.
Also, I have to say that I am really not happy about the advertising in this game. You sneak onto a Peruvian cargo ship in the middle of the night, and plastered all over the ship are big ads for Intel. There are numerous smaller ads scattered throughout the game, notably for Nokia. It really pisses me off to pay this kind of money for a buggy game and then have to put up with advertisements, and ads that are so poorly incorporated into the game. It also takes forever to load, and to exit when you're done playing. So, as a piece of software, I give this 1 star overall.
"not very fun", This game is based on skulking around in the shadows. shadows, shadows, and more shadows. After a couple of levels the game gets really redundant. Its all the same thing level after level. Too bad, this game had so much promise
"!!!! Good Game !!!!!", Good: - History, - Graphics, - Sound atmosphere, - News movements.
Cons: - Need good PC to play it with a good graphics quality. - StarForce protection. - Too short. :(
Bye :)
"Why Ubisoft? Why?", Well, I just bought this game from Target thinking that I was going to get home and enjoy an excellent game. Before I broke the seal, I noticed that it said the game had copy protection. Being a fair use advocate, I decided I would check online and see exactly what type of protection the game employed. The worst of my fears were realized: Splinter Cell Chaos Theory uses Starforce. Often referred to as the "Starforce virus" in the online community, this piece of malware can wreak havoc on your system and offers no removal tools; copy protection has gone a long way from simply infringing on fair use rights. Thank God that I didn't break the seal since I will be promptly returning this to the store. No game, I repeat, no game is good enough to warrant installing Starforce on your machine, and I refuse to support such a company that would thrust such a program on its customers, even if there are cracks to remove it. Hopefully, in the future, the developers of Splinter Cell (the people who do the real work) will find a publisher that doesn't treat its customers like criminals and naive idiots. Until then, I want my refund.
"How to remove all StarForce components from your PC", - Go to www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55 - Download the StarForce Removal Tool as a ZIP archive - Extract and store sfdrvrem.exe anywhere on your hard disk - Run sfdrvrem.exe
Done. It's gone. The info is all detailed on the website. Good luck!
