What our customer's say!
"Oldie but Goodie", Call of Duty has venerable history. I would consider United Offensive as the best addition to the series because it continues the excellent action of the original in single player while adding one of the best gametypes to multiplayer: Base Assault.
Base Assault pits one of the Allied factions (Russians, Brits, Americans) versus the German army and the goal is to use tanks and bazookas to take down enemy bunkers, then plant and hold a bomb in each bunker to blow them up. Blow all three bunkers: you win. It's amazing that Call of Duty 2 stripped this gametype out and CoD4 doesn't even attempt to have something similar.
In terms of multiplayer, United Offensive still holds weight, even when compared to Unreal Tournament 3, any of the Battlefield games, or any of the other rail shooters that consider DM, TDM, and CTF to be 'extensive'. The graphics are still great, sound quality is excellent, and there remains a hearty multiplayer community. I've been playing it for years, and haven't found as good a game yet.
"Great Expansion", A very worthy expansion to a superb game. It not only continues the game, it has enhancements like the ability to Sprint and to "cook off" grenades before throwing.
Multiplayer is likewise awesome, now with the addition of drivable vehicles. The maps are spectacular and absolutely gigantic, some to the point that you simply can't cross them in any reasonable time without doing it in a jeep.
It's a very, very worthy addition for little cost.
"Great game... especially the online multiplayer.", I know this game is getting old, but that doesn't mean that people are moving on to the latest and greatest version. Even Call of Duty 2 was released a while back, but United Offensive the what people are sticking to... at least until COD 4 is released.
"Too frustrating to be fun", Some levels are far too difficult to be fun even on the 'easy' setting--the Foy church tower comes to mind, among several others. It's a thin line between challenge and frustration. It's no fun to do the same levels over and over without result, and it should not be necessary to constantly use cheats to get through the levels.
"Good if you love being the Russians", If you're into being the technology challenged Russian army, this is for you. If you like to actually have a weapon to fire, maybe not so much. I exaggerate. This is a good game with a few more hiccups than the original COD, but there are parts that are just plain awful to try to get through, and I personally got sick of constantly being part of the Russian army. Those parts seemed to drag whereas the rest was fun.

"Boring", I became familiar with Call of Duty by buying Call of Duty 2 first. I then got Call of Duty and finally the expansion pack. Overall I found United Offensive too easy and less than exciting. The graphics are OK but not nearly as good as COD2. Any encounters involving smoke slow the game down considerably, even though I have a powerful video card. I breezed through the game in less than eight hours, something I have never managed before with a first person shooter game. Even the level involving the B-17 was easy and I expected it to be much more difficult.
Overall it was OK but not what I had hoped, given the quality of COD and COD2. I look forward to an expansion pack for COD2, but if they don't make it more difficult or more interesting, then there is no need to bother.
"YAY! LET'S KILL NAZIS! . . . AGAIN!", First of all, I want to say that I was not that impressed by the original Call of Duty. Sure, the gameplay and interface was solid, the Russian campaign was a nice escape from the norm, but overall, Call of Duty just didn't do anything revolutionary in the FPS genre. Just about everything in COD was done before by games like Medal of Honor and Battlefield 1942. Admittedly, COD did some of those things better.
As for this new expansion pack, it really is not that good. For one, the original COD could be beaten in about 10 hours. Not a very long game, by any current standards. And it's safe to say that expansion packs often (if not always) offer less gameplay time. So how did they remedy this? Easy. They cranked up the difficulty by having scripted bombs kill you if you stand in the wrong place for too long, or the wrong place at the wrong time. And worst of all, I literally saw Nazis SPAWN in front of me due some invisible spawn point. I kill one wave of Nazis and then "Poof!" Hitler magically warped some Nazi stormtroopers onto the battlefield, or something. Shortly after this feeble attempt to defend the chateau, I died.
I also want to point out that the COD games are trying to emphasis the fact that "You are part of a Team", like when you follow SGT Moody around. But the AI for my teammates is INSANE! My fellow soldiers walk right by Nazis and don't even realize what they've done! As a result, "I", me, personally, have to kill these Nazis that they've conveniently overlooked. Very very rarely has a fellow soldier taken out a Nazi troop for me when I'm reloading.
I tried to be patient with this game, but in the end I just couldn't deal with it. Maybe I could put up with the game, if it had some redeeming replay value (I didn't buy it for multiplayer, only singleplayer). But this game has little or none. You won't find secret areas, you won't find secret maps, you won't find secret weapons, and, let's face it, any of those elements would be a little out of place in a trying-to-be-historical WWII game anyway. This isn't Doom or Half-Life.
It's much worse.
If you like linear games, then you'll love this. If you like more freedom, you'll probably hate it.
"multiplayer", first and last of all artillery support make this game behind the original cod, very bad for noobs also, with the artillery support it make this game boring after i play for a while, stick to the original cod noobs untill u think u are good enough to play, u had to get to a higher rank to use the artillery thats all i will tell u. PS. cod is better than the expansive pack buy it anyway for the singleplayer.
"best game ever made", this expansion pack is amazing and provides great improvements to the regular call of duty game. don't buy it for the single player - buy it for the amazing multiplayer. the graphics and movement have improved greatly. you can now run instead of just walk, and use smoke bombs, a great improvement. the weapons feel better - the action is fast-paced and more realistic.
however, it's not perfect. many of the maps are so-called "tank maps" because they revolve around the use of tanks and jeeps. the jeeps are pretty cool, but these are a detriment to the game. you're better off not playing any tank maps at all. tanks are useless in that if you get in one, you'll almost instantly be blown to smithereens. in addition, the tanks keep spawning so this lame idea of "fun" is repeated ad nauseum. also the maps are much bigger and you spawn far away from the action, so there's too much walking or driving in UO.
other negatives - sniper rifles are much much less useful than in regular COD. why? well, people can sprint and the faster people move, the harder they are to hit. also, smoke bombs cloud the sniper's vision. (still, the smoke is simply amazing).
one more negative - artillery. artillery is a feature where when you reach a certain rank, you point with your binoculars and planes drop huge bombs on the enemy. for the most part it's cool, except there's simply too much artillery and when one team uses it on the other team's spawn point, the game is virtually over, because you can't stop from being killed by it. this is a stupid oversight on the part of the makers of UO.
other positives - new types of games, especially capture the flag, my personal favorite, greatly add to the fun, instead of playing old boring team deathmatch. also, make sure you turn your search filter on to search for "mods" so you can play new modifications and maps that people created. this adds to the freshness and excitement of the game. also turn "auto-downloads" on so you can download these new maps when you click on the server.
despite the negatives, i still play this game almost every day. even though i've played it for countless hours, it's still sooo fun. i think this qualifies as the best video game created to date.
"CoD UO = 1337", This game has the best graphics out and it probably the best you'll play if you love online multiplayers. even if you do the singleplayer its still awesome! best game I have and I am a total gamer. the custom maps are incredible too. make sure you turn on "allot auto downloading" in the multiplayer options!
buy this game if you're not a noob and have a love for gaming. peace_ chris
