"Don't buy it"
If you can get it for free then ok BUT do not pay for it. Updates are terrible, are there map updates at all? It's handy for locating ATMs, that's about it.

"Pocket Streets"
Excellent product for major cities. It will be better once I find out where to find the cities I want. I don't think EVERY city is available. Otherwise it's pretty good

"Good"
This always was a Microsoft good program, who needs know how be and for where, this is a good choice

"Horrible!"
Doesn't tell you how to get anywhere when used with a GPS...simply shows you where you are. Nothing more than a glorified paper map. A complete embarassment!

"Poor selection of maps"
I purchased this program recently, and was very disappointed. The maps are very limited...for example, most of the major tourist areas (beaches, Newport, ect.) in Rhode Island are cut out of the RI map. I recommend buying MS Streets and Trips 2005 (which includes Pocket Streets 2005 in the box) instead:

With this program, you have the entire USA at your disposal, and you can select which maps to send to your pocket pc or smartphone.

Fortunatly, the store that sold me Pocket Streets allowed me to exchange it for Streets and Trips (after paying the difference). The prices are very close.

What our customer's say!

"Can't view the maps", I originally purchased Streets and Trips 2008, hoping for pocket pc availability, but there was none. So I purchased Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005, thinking I could use it as a base from which to download newer maps. However, on downloading to my Dell Axim 30, a message appeared that because the software was created for an older version of Windows Mobile it may not display correctly. Understatement! I can't view any maps, which makes this product of no value for my purposes. I was not aware of a Windows version requirement from the product info provided!

"pretty ok", I think it is better to by the Streets & Trips 2005 because you get a gps device and when you install the software you get pocket streets too so thats more worth it. I think the product is pretty good due to the fact that i use it on my smart phone, its like a map in the palm of my hand. Now my smartphone is my phone, mp3 player, digital camera, oraganizer, hand held map. Also the good thing about streets & trips is that you can save any map to your smartphone from your pc using the software, you are not just limited to the major metro cities on microsoft's dowload site. just make sure you have a large storage card and you can pretty much save a whole state map, just save a new state map whenever you are going to go out of state. i like it because i dont have to subscribe to a data plan or internet service with my phone provider to use the maps. I you do then this is not that good, might as well do mapquest or something but if you don't pay extra for a data plan, this software is perfect.

"The best for Downtown", I have had this product for a while, and it helps me in the downtown, its not much usefull for driving directions. But when you visit a bigcity for the firsttime and planing on walking a bit, and finding the place on ur self then this would help you a lot.

"Pocket Streets great help to Fire/EMS personnel!", We use Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005 in our duties as fire & EMS workers.
Although we know our districts pretty well, due to recent growth and expansion resulting in more and more streets to keep up with, it's nice to have Pocket Streets on our pocket PC's so we can quickly look up an address. Pocket Streets works great on my Ipaq.

"DON'T BUY! WASTE OF MONEY!", This is a complete joke. The only cities that are in the program for U.S. states are major metro areas. If you have a handheld (either regular or mobile phone) you more than likely also have WiFi or GPRS internet connection. And if you are in a major metro area, with a WiFi connection, why would you need a program for maps? Just go to Yahoo Maps or Mapquest. If you don't have a WiFi, then just buy a paper map...it will do the same thing (maybe even more!) than this program.

The only possible way this program could be useful is if you already have a handheld GPS receiver AND you never find yourself outside major metropolitan cities. I have a GPS receiver for my laptop (USB) which I though could connect to my handheld and it won't...so my advice is to buy an entire package (software and handheld-specific GPS receiver).

Can't believe Microsoft put its name on this junk.

"Should be zero stars", This product is nothing like the desktop version of the software. So limited in functions, you might as well have a paper map.

"An utter embarrassment.", This app is just horrendous. It is literally NOTHING more than a moving map; I'm serious. There are NO features at all. To make things worse, when zoomed out, the display is littered with the names of every little village and hamlet you've never heard of, leaving the names of recognizable towns a cities nowhere to be found. Also, at these zoom levels, most roads, streets and highways are not visible, making navigation impossible. This app does not even come close to qualifying as a GPS nav system. Even as a 'moving map' it's pretty well useless unless you're zoomed into about 300 yards. Even though this app was a freebie included with Trips and Streets 2005 (which is a VERY nice, capable app.), it's still maddening that Microsoft would allow such a eggregiously lame program to be released. If it were possible to give this program negative stars AND charge Microsoft with a crime, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

"May Be Better Off With FULL Version of Streets and Trips ", Overall, an okay product. Many people complain their street isn't shown or recent construction isn't shown, but it takes about 3 years for new mapping data to make it all the way from satellite imagery, to purchasable data for companies like Microsoft to obtain, and then into their finalized product. So, if that new road, neighborhood, etc. has been there less than 3 years, then you really cannot expect it to be in Pocket Streets.

If you purchase the full desktop version of Microsoft Streets and Trips then you're given the option to install the Microsoft Pocket Streets 2005 during installation of the full version. So, unless you ONLY want Pocket Streets, you're better off buying the full desktop version and installing it on your Pocket PC that way. Then you'll have a PC and a Pocket PC version of it and also have the ability to export maps from the full version to your Pocket version.

If you don't live in a major metropolitan area then the map of where you live will not be on the CD-ROM. You'll have to use the full desktop version of Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 and export the map(s) you need.

The only change I would make to how the software works (other than the adding additional maps for those of us who don't live in major cities) is voice prompts. What's the point of having a PDA with GPS and Pocket Streets if I can't have it prompt me when to make a turn.

"Simply Awful!", This is simply awful! I would expect this type of performance from some no-name brand software purchased at a flea market - not from Microsoft! I think they must of contracted this off to some really low bidder. I had more satisfaction tossing the software into the trash than trying to auction it off on some internet site. I think I'll go with the TomTom Navigator software instead.

"Useless or plain bad?", I had thought that Microsoft might have been the creme of the crop, but it seems that it's just that: a myth. This software feels very empty, counterintuitive, and hard to use. The "points of interest" lack plenty of places that I needed to find during my travels. The address search is pitiful, and I just could not think of a good reason of why I bought this. I'm guessing that getting a high class compilation of maps and GPS is better than just a maps. Please save yourself some money, and invest it in something like a TomTom GPS + maps.
