"Started well, dies quickly" After not using the unit for quite a bit of time, I plugged them back in and surprise! they no longer eject discs. My discs are trapped in the unit. You have to unscrew and pull it apart to get them out. It appears a cheap little rubber belt gets loose and your SOL. Thanks Imation!
"worked fine until it jammed" nice device, rather noisy but you will probalby get past that. It is now in limbo, jammed and will not eject a disk. Since the warranty is over, I'll have to open it up and see what's up. Suspect I'll wait until a reasonably priced version that reads the CD/DVD rather then using the device in the machine and then replace it.
"Good Idea, if it worked" The first sign there was a problem was the date on the drivers, 2005. There has been no R&D for 3 years, clearly Imation is not interested in solving some glaring problems. First Disk we slid in caused the unit to lock up. After a reboot I was able to remove the disk and continue with a couple more disks, then it ignored the 4th disk meaning we couldn't enter any information and worst of all, no way to eject the disk. After running a utility that comes with the software, it did not find the lost disks and then marked the remaining disks as problem disks, meaning we could not eject any other the other disks. We had to unscrew the top to remove the disks. It went back for a refund. The good news is this happened on early on and not the 100th disk.
"STOP! After several months the CD's do NOT eject reliably, then your CD's are trapped inside!" We bought two of these for the office. They worked great for a few weeks, but then one of them stopped ejecting the CD's reliably. You'd have to tell it to eject about five or six times before the CD would finally come out. It got progressively worse and started requiring ten tries for an ejection. Finally it stopped ejecting no matter how many times you tried. Imagine this true story: "Hey, can I get the Adobe training CD" "No, sorry they're trapped in this broken library" I called support. They gave me a brand new unit. It worked great for a few weeks, and then began having the exact same problem!! ARGH! THEN my SECOND unit started having the same issues. Frustrated, I called support again. It turns out that the problem is with the belts that run the mechanism(s). They stretch out over time, and then they begin slipping. When they slip, they are no longer able to grab the disk to push it through he 'gate'. Because I'm a technician of sorts, I convinced Imation them to send me a handful of replacement belts. That way, I could just replace the belts when the unit stopped working. You too can do this if you're handy, but it honestly takes the better part of an hour. After replacing ALL of the belts in BOTH of my units, it worked GREAT!! ...For about a month before it started having the exact same problem. I have given up!! Today I finally finished moving all of my CD's to a Caftek ddo-50 (the same as the Dacal CD-300). I've been using that unit at home for several years and it's been great! Perfectly reliable! Tonight after work we are all going to have a ceremonial burning of our two Stakka units in the parking lot of our office. You're welcome to come and help, but you must bring your own matches. :-)
"DO NOT BUY Disc eject errors started occuring after a few months of use and have to continously recalibrate the unit." Purchased two of these units which were working as designed but after a few months one unit started having problems ejecting disks then recalibrated it and worked fine for a few days then had issues again and the cycle goes on and on between recalibration and eject errors, my second unit is now having the same issues and Imation support is useles thus they are going to the trash.

What our customer's say!
"The biggest piece of CRAP! I have ever had.", I would actually give these a negative 5 Stars if I could. I initially thought this was handy. Yet everytime I want to eject a disc it tells me something is blocking the gate, yet nothing is. I have 121 errors on 1, 358 errors on the 2nd, and 478 on the 3rd tird. I have taken them them apart and these things are junk. Cost to produce $[...]. Life of components: Thin flimsy rubber band used to drive the plastic gears should last 6 mos. The motor is about 1". The strongest piece is the springs which keep the gate rollers in place. Its probably too strong which makes the gate too tight and stops the discs from ejecting. No wonder they have a 7 Day Return Policy. The support blows too! Do NOT waste your money. Sincerely, Matthew P.
"Works as promised but only if you are lucky...", I bought 3 stakkas on sale at $39 each (refurbished) a few months ago and so far, they have worked without any major issues. A friend of mine bought one at the same time as me and was not as lucky. As others have experienced, he had problems ejecting stored discs which from what I was told, was caused by misalignment of the motor/drive belt during rough shipment. My friend returned his unit (he did not want to go through the hassle of troubleshooting it). As long as your stakka was not shaked around, it should work as promised. It took a while to enter all of my DVDs into the OpdiTracker software but it was worth the effort. All 200+ of my data DVDs/CDs are now accessible within seconds. The database softare is bare bones but it does the trick of locating and ejecting your discs efficiently. I would pass on purchasing if you have to pay full price ($99) which averages $1 per disc for the convenience. I think this is a little too steep for the average Joe who just want to organize his DVD collection. However, business users might find it worth the price. I noticed a few reviewers mentioned that their Stakkas started to fail after one year. I will post an update a year from now to confirm if this is an inherent issue with the Stakkas.
"Don't buy this", This item is very poorly made and prone to fail. It didn't work out of the box, wouldn't eject any disc. Buyer beware. Don not purchase one of these!!!
"good with pc but doesnt work very well with Mac OS", Works good with PC not too well with Macs OS. Fortunately I have both.
"Disc Stakka", Easy to use with provided software. Somewhat limited as to use with a database such as Collectorz Movie database. Very dependable unit on the whole. Definitely plan on purchasing more units (3 so far) in the very near future.

After having bought 3 of the Disc Stakkas and having major issues with 1 and beginning to have issues with another, I have come to the conclusion of NOT buying any further units. I may just go back to soft sided CD cases and a pen and paper. Totally disappointed with the Stakkas. Royal pain to remove discs from a failed unit. I have to keep one unit with the cover off just to be able to spin the unit for a "reset". First unit I bought is still working fine though. 3rd unit just sits there with the green LED lit. My advice: if you have the time to fiddle with them, get them. If not, run away FAST! Time to try Ziotec again!

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Unhappy with this unit", I purchased this item online and it arrived in a few days. I was planning to purchase 6 for my DVD library but after having problems with this one I changed my mind.
The unit jammed everytime I attempted to eject a disc. I contacted tech support at Imation and after three calls the tech support folks told me to send it back to the dealer. I purchased it from Antonline and they wouldnt take it back. They said Imation would have to supply a replacement since it was under warranty. After another call to imation tech support I was given a replacement. I had to box up the defective unit, pay for shipping and wait for it to arrive a week later.
If you are looking to use this unit for anything other than a paperweight, You should not waste your money.
"Nice Concept, poor design", I have ordered 3 of these, 2 arrived defective. The one that works is great! they apparently have a design flaw which prevents discs from being ejected. Returning/exchanging is a time consuming process. I'd look at alternative vendors.
"Great Normally", I now own 3 of these, and they all act the same. 95% of the time they work as advertised and have absolutely no problems at all. That other 5% is when they just don't eject a disk and you need to try it a second time to get what you want out. I've even had it lose a disk, which takes a 20 minute maintenance cycle to figure out. I have also had very minor software issues (missing disk entry) which were easily figured out. But over all, these have performed quite well.
"It works, "for me"", I am an avid gamer and I have more games than some stores so I was desperate for storage space. I got one of these units and tried it for a few months and was extremely happy. So then I got three more. And then three more. But like any electronics, sooner or later you're bound to get a bad one and I did. My sixth unit is a little "flaky." It has not actually malfunctioned, but it resets itself every 2 or 3 hours which registers on my computer as a device being improperly disconnected, which can be bad depending on what you are doing at the time. I have the units assembled in two stacks of three connected to a powered hub. And another problem, although it does not happen often, is that a unit will jam a disc and you'll have to reset it to get the disc out. If the unit is full, as mine are, that can take up to an hour or more. I've heard horror stories of people actually having to open them up. Also it seems Imation is never going to update their software for Blu-Ray, Xbox360, PS3 or HD-DVD discs. That's why I can not give 5 stars. But for the amount of discs I have, and the amount of money I can afford to spend, "it works for me."
"Doesn't work!", I just got this today. The unit did not work at all. The database back up doesn't work and the restore back up doesn't work. I decided to move it to another computer and all the files were gone? This is a BAD PRODUCT! BAD! buy more storage racks. You will be far happier in the end.. Jim
