Others say...
"does the job well" it is a very high quality product both in construction and performance, although it would be better to purchase this on a larger order so as to justify the shipping cost. I think the shipping cost more than the product, but it is a good product.
"Great in Theory" I needed this to connect my Logitech Z-5500 speakers via the Optical output on my Sounblaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card. (Why does Creative skimp and use a 3.5mm "flex plug" for optical out??) The adapter diminishex the light level to the point that the sound quality is effected. I have since gone back to the analog connections.
"works great with Mac Mini" Inexpensive, quick delivery, and can only be found on line. Needed to use optical audio with any Mac
"Works perfectly - amazing price" I needed this item to connect my X-Fi Sound Blaster card to our 7.1 surround sound system. The adapter has good fit with the cable and input device. Quality is excellent and shipping for this particular seller was quick. BTW, you can't get this at Fry's, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, or any other national retailers.
"200% Satisfied !" Used to connect the "mini spdif" plug on my HP Pavillion dv 6400 to the optical Super CD toslink [...] input on my Sony STP-k9900p home theatre system (Dolby 5.1). Mini refers to the speaker jack size (like the green speaker plug for any PC). SPDIF refers to the protocol used over the optical connection. Using Amazon's select similar or related search (or whatever it's called) I also bought two 12 foot cables (cables4less) and a toslink to toslink cable connector. 3 separate suppliers, one purchase from Amazon - how neat. I ended up with a 24 foot connection from laptop to home theatre system that reaches every seat in the living room. AND IT WORKS and SOUNDS GREAT. You should hear how good even Pandora.com sounds! I don't mind paying $5-$6 for parts and $20+ for S&H for something I can't buy locally. I got what I wanted. Also, at many places you'll pay $30+ for just one 12 foot cable. All three packages were shipped promptly and arrived within 1 week. (Good job Amazon). The jack, connector and cablesare all top quality. Cable ends have protective caps attached to the ends to keep the optical end clean. The cap for the laptop end reaches to cover the mini spdif plug when it is not in the laptop.

What our customer's say!
"Inexpensive option for hooking up your Macbook to surround sound", I'm going to keep this simple. With one of these adapters, a toslink cable and a Optical cable switchbox (like 15.00, if that) I can hook up my MacBook to surround sound with ease. Every laptop is different although the late model Mac's have a built in mini-optical out in the headphone jacks so it is literally plug and play. Pair this with the Mini-DVI to HDMI cable and you can hook up your laptop to your television and still have full surround sound. For a 40.00 investment (w/ shipping) , you are literally enhancing your computing experience.
"Great adapter", I use this to play music from iTunes on my iMac through a stereo system. It sounds fantastic through the optical connection. Certainly worth more than the small price tag.
"not working", does not work as advertised. In fact, does not work at all. Tried to connect a creative notebook card to a optical speaker source as well as connecting other audio products and is not able to work. Buy something else.
"It Works", I bought this to use with the optical output on my new laptop, but it broke because of all the moving around that comes naturally with a laptop. The base of the tip broke, so now the whole tip wiggles, but surprisingly it still works fine. I guess the optical fiber inside of the tip is flexible, while the black plastic casing around it is not.
"Does what it says it'll do, and does it very well", For anyone who's happened upon my review of the TOSLink-to-MiniTOSLink cable by Dayton, this review will sound pretty familiar and with good reason. I went two different routes in what I ordered, trying to cover all my angles in case one product turned out to be junk. I'm happy to say, both were great. In this case, here's the situation: I recently bought an Intel Mac Mini and was faced with both a golden opportunity to improve the quality of my sound output, and a dilemma. The Mini can output audio by both an RCA jack and offers optical output as well. The quandry? They're both built into a single outlet, which means that the optical interface isn't your standard TOSLink/SPDIF-sized port. But I couldn't sit by and not take advantage of feeding output directly to my home theater digital decoder.
This TOSLink-to-MiniTOS adapter allowed me to convert one end of an existing Monster cable and hook it up to my Mini. My iTunes library sounded phenomenal on my full 5.1 surround system.
These little guys were also priced just right, so I bought several of them just in case anything ever goes wrong with one. Overall, I'm very pleased I can take the Mini in a solid HTPC direction with this product.

"Provides 5.1 speaker output from PS3 thru soundcard to non-toslink speakers", Thank God I got this thing working. I think mine is a different case from most people. I have this connected to an Optical Toslink cable (obviously). One end of the Optical Toslink cable is plugged directly into my new Playstation 3. The other end of the Optical Toslink cable is connected to this adapter, which then plugs into my Optical S/PDIF Mini Input on my SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook, which is in my laptop. Then the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook has its own output (the Creative non-standard speaker docking cable connector) going to my 5.1 surround computer speakers. That's right - I'm using this to connect my PS3 to my computer speakers, and the computer speakers do not have an Optical Toslink input - I'm using the soundcard as a go-between. I just connected it a couple hours ago and had to do a bit of troubleshooting - apparently the PS3 has to be set to "AAC" only (not Dolby Digital 5.1 nor DTS 5.1) in order to work with my setup. So hopefully it will still continue to work tomorrow and in the future. Feel free to email me at [...] if you want more explanation, but I got it working, so now I can have 5.1 surround from my PS3 without having to by some new equipment - yay!
"Works!", Not much to review, does exactly what it is supposed to do for a lot less than what Apple would charge for it!
"Got the job done", Its the connector I needed, it works fine, no problems. Basically it does what it is suppose to do.
"It works", With a digital connection, the only consideration is whether the bits get to the destination. For me, the adapter has been working flawless for over one month. The build quality of the adapter is high.
"Great Product!", I purchased 4 of these adapters (3 extra) so I could hook up my macbook's digital output for digital surround sound through my Logitech speakers. The product works exactly as I expected... great digital sound from my macbook. Parts Express did an excellent job of getting my order to me sooner than I expected (ordered on a Saturday, and they had the package to the courier by Saturday night.) Very prompt service... I would definitely order from them again. Overall a great product from a prompt company!
