"Beware, it crashed my Hard disk!" I downloaded EZ Antivirus trial version from CA and Installed it on my laptop (XP Professional SP1). After installation the software started scanning automatically, which I allowed it to do and left my laptop alone. The laptop caught my attention when it started rebooting again and again. I realized my hard disk was also making a lot of noise. I went to CA's website and couldn't find any number to call. So I started web chat with their support. The support said that I might have installed the software with another anti-virus already working on my laptop. As per him, now only Microsoft can fix my problem. He said he would escalate the issue and copy me the email, which I'm still awaiting. To fix my hard disk I tried XP setup, Restore disks, and even reformatting the hard disk. Nothing works. I had to throw the hard disk. So just a friendly warning... stay away!!!
" CA Marketing and Sales: too many liberties " I switched to CA Antivirus from Norton which was slowing down my 3.2 gig XP system. I had no problems with it and was content until it was time to renew my license. One month before renewal time the program's renewal module kicked in. after EVERY boot up the module would sit in memory until I connected to the internet. at which time it would automatically ask me to renew and opened up my default web browser to the renewal site. After 4 days of this I felt my back was against the wall and renewed my license,(I did like the program). Unfortunately that was not the end of it. I received no confirmation of purchase from the company until 15 DAYS AFTER RENEWAL PURCHASE. Yes my order was listed in the website, and yes the automatic reminder continued every single boot up and connection. after a week of calling Customer service (4x) and getting the runaround I found turning on my computer so unpleasant that I searched around and found another program which was less intrusive and Just as effective if not more so. I managed to still maintain an acceptable level of computer footprint so that my resorces are not taxed as with Norton or Mcafee as well. It was a shame because I liked the product but the Greed Module kicked in and ruined the program for me. - Switched to Kaspersky. There are many other very good antivirus programs out there, you just have to do a little digging.
"Tried it and then bought it." Simple to install and easy to use the software does not eat much memory and works without much intrusion in your daily life and fore that I give it 5 stars.
Updates are done often or as often as you wish and take only a very short time to download...try that with other programs of this nature.
I would buy again.
"ezAntivirus: Does the job" I have installed all popular AntiVirus programs on various machines and all have their weaknesses. I got fed up with Norton when multiple problems led to "uninstall and reinstall" which still didn't solve problems.
ezAntivirus works fine and the subscriptionss are the most reasonable around. It updates incredibly fast; others don't. CA even allows subscription transfer to another machine!
Reviewers with lockup problems (BSODs) with 2000/XP should update their Nero InCD program; this is a known bug.
"completely useless - garbage" at first this seems like the perfect antirvirus program... cheap, uses up very minimal resources, simple to use.. lifetime subscription for free.. what could be wrong?
EVERYTHING. see, the problem isn't that this program can't find viruses.. the problem is IT FINDS THEM AND DOESN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THEM. that's right, it leaves the viruses right there!! how is that useful in any way? i looked in options to make sure it cleaned or deleted viruses, but still the log report would announce to me "(this many) viruses could not be deleted or cleaned." well, thanks for nothing. i'm going to return this and get a real antivirus program.

What our customer's say!
"Only works with Microsoft e-mail clients", If you are security minded and choose to use an e-mail client like Thunderbird or the bundled Opera e-mail client this program will NOT protect you! Not only that, but the fact that CA Anti-virus will ONLY work with MS Outlook or Outlook Express is not revealed in any documentation. I found this out the hard way when a manual scan found a virus in my Opera mail folder and couldn't clean or quarantine it! The CA tech confirmed that the AV program only works with MS e-mail clients. To me this is false advertising!!!
"EZ Trust... well, it's half right.", Yes, it's easy to install, configure and use. The footprint is small and it doesn't hog resources. That's the good news. The bad news is that this software's virus detection rate is abysmal and the company's tech support is worse. So, in short, don't *trust* it.
Two examples, starting with tech support. After building a new computer, I had several blue screens (stop errors, BSODs) and my analysis seemed to indicate that EZ Antivirus was at least partially responsible. I emailed support with all the relevant info. Their (paraphrased) reply: "We understand that you are having Faults in Windows. This is because you have Windows installed. If you did not have Windows you would not have Faults. Thank you for contacting E-Trust." I should have that engraved on a plaque.
Example 2, AV detection: When my subscription ran out, I uninstalled EZ and tried a demo of Kaspersky. It found 5 viruses on my computer that EZ never told me about. In this case, it's 2 strikes and you're out. Goodby, Computer Associates.
"WoW!", I just finished writing a review for eTrust's Internet Security package after I saw the unbelievable amount of negative responses. I will not go back to Norton or Mcafee unless the mimic CA's design and usefullness. I am on my second year with this program and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. It is does not bog my system down like the "other" two nor did it take a lot of space (space was not a issue for me but it helps keep the system running smoothly). Again, this program is great and I definitly recommmend it!
"Ex-Norton User", I have installed ver. 7 of this software on four computers, two running XP Pro and two with Win98SE. Absolutely no problems with installation on any computers, no software broke, the updates work fine, the automatic scans work fine, and several viruses have been intercepted in email. (Yes, of course the program scans email.)
Zone Labs of ZoneAlarm fame uses CA Antivirus in their Security Suite, and THAT works fine in a couple of other computers that I manage.
The program uses resources sparingly. It won't slow down your system nearly as much as Norton Anti-Virus.
On one of my computers, with an Athlon XP 1800 running XP Pro and 512 mb RAM, the program scans about 260,000 files per hour. The manufacturer offers a free trial download, if you want to test it out. Obviously some others here have had problems with the program, but so far I am very happy with it.
"breaks other programs, can't uninstall", DONT BUY OR EVEN INSTALL A TRIAL OF THIS SOFTWARE UNTIL YOU READ THIS!!! I tried this program on a recommendation from the Microsoft web site, that should have been a warning right there. On install the etrust antivirus software (nothing else just antivirus) broke my Zone Alarm firewall, interrupted internet browsing and caused the system to hang up. I uninstalled it and have tried installing other antivirus programs since then but none of them will install; they keep popping up with guess what error message? That's right, please uninstall Etrust antivirus software, it is incompatible with our software. I've emailed Etrust and tried thier 'live' online chat and get no response. The software is evil, it looks like I will have to format my hard drive to get rid of it. I can find no related keys in the registry to clean by hand. Don't repeat my mistake!!!
Read this reviews before You buy...
"Worse Than a Virus", I purchased CA's antivirus software because I had read some good reviews. After purchasing I downloaded the most current version. I installed it on one of three PCs in the house. All reasonably new and powerful Dells: 2 running McAfee and 1 running Norton. The first PC is XP Pro. The installation went smoothly, with only one "program must terminate" error that did not seem to affect the installation. I noted that the program was smaller in disk space and in memory footprint. I tested this for a week with only one occurrence of needing to reboot due to some obscure failure (red X over the icon in my system tray).
I decided it was good to use and purchased two more licenses to install on the two XP Home machines in the house. This did not go well. Now, I have two machines that are requiring me to completely reinstall Windows. After removing both McAfee and Norton from these two respective PCs, they booted up fine. Then I installed CA eTrust Antivirus version 7.0.6.7 and the problems started. The PCs both would boot to the Welcome screen and then freeze. About 20% of the time when booting in Safe Mode they would finally get all the way to the desktop (after 30 minutes of chunking) only to get a message "Windows must now restart because the remote procedure call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly". Then a 50 second timer starts and Windows and the PC reboots. The taskbar is unresponsive while Windows is up and the CPU is pegged. For this 50 seconds there is no way to interrupt the automatic shutdown. Basically, the installation of this software made the PC behave as if it was infected by a very bad computer virus.
I spent 45 minutes chatting over the Internet with friendly Sameet. The final outcome of that painful communication was that Sameet types something like: "I must inform you that I am not authorized to work on this problem because it is your problem and I am not authorized."
So, now I am reinstalling Windows XP Home on two machines and returning CA eTrust EZ Antivirus for a full refund. Looks like I will be sticking with Norton from now on. I think CA is rushing this product to market without doing enough testing. Don't buy it unless you like reinstalling Windows.
"Unable to uninstall", Once my year-long subscription expired, I have been unable to uninstall CA ETrust. It now pops up a nag window about every 20 minutes, and when you click exit, it pops up a browser window and takes you to CA's web page. I have tried uninstalling many different ways to no avail. This has been going on for months and makes my computer painful to use.
My attempts to reach support are futile. Their support page doesn't work in my browser (IE 6.0) and the phone line is pay (which I will probably end up paying).
This is much worse than a virus. At least with a virus I can go buy Norton and clean things up.

"Subscription Flawed?", Bought the 2005 program in the spring. I've been using this program for about 4 months, now the program prompts me to renew my subcription. I can't manually run a virus scan because the program requests that I renew my subcription. Other programs give you one year of use before renewing. I'm not certain if this product is working correctly. I'm going to use a different product instead.
"Very Disappointed", I got this product in April and exactly two months later it said my subscription had expired and I needed to renew in order to keep receiving updates for antivirus protection.I wrote to the company and a week later they sent me a reply. The reply was to go to their update center and to renew. I sure wasn't going to pay again for something I only had for two months and its suppose to last for a year. I'll be going back to my trusted Norton Antivirus, it may be slow but at least I only have to buy it once a year.
