"Great 23" Display"
I read endless reviews before deciding on which display to pair with my new Mac Pro. I looked at monitors from Dell, NEC, Ezio and Samsung. I even visited a few stores for that "see it for you self" experience. For color critical work Ezio and NEC have some amazing products, but expensive. Dell and Samsung have some great value monitors but not great for creative design work. The Apple Cinema 23 fell somewhere in between in terms of color accuracy and price.

The choice was clear for me and I have no regrets. It even looks better at home on my desk than it did at the Apple Store.

"So nice you forget it's there"
What's not to love? This monitor has a great picture, beautiful design, outstanding build quality. I wouldn't have anything else. From a practical standpoint I could probably get by with the 20-inch version, or even a Samsung or Viewsonic display. I got this one because I was already used to working with a 21-inch CRT and wanted something with a slightly larger screen that took up less space. If you have the budget for it, buy it.

"Love it"
I researched this monitor extensively before buying it, considered the positives and many negative--for the early incarnation of this monitor--reviews, and decided to buy it. I've only had it for a few weeks, but I am absolutely thrilled so far: no stuck or dead pixels, vibrant and accurate color (I do a lot of Photoshop), consistent color across the screen, beautiful to look at... I would definitely recommend this monitor.

"Love my dual 23" monitors!"
Hi,

I just bought two of these monitors and they are absolutely beautiful. I love how clear they are. I thought my old displays were clear but these are amazing. Thank you again Apple for making a top quality product. Are ascetically pleasing AND they have the best picture I have ever seen.

Thanks!

"Monitor Problems???"
If you EVER pay big $$ on a display monitor (or TV for that matter), by all means, plug it into a TOP QUALITY surge protector (ie APC Back-UPS)!!! Plan on spending AT LEAST $80.

The electricity coming out of your outlet has numerous daily spikes that eventually will fry the internal components. A cheap surge protector w/ either not work AT ALL w/ this, or, stop working after the first big spike.

What our customer's say!

"amazing...but get the extended warranty", my 23" cinema display worked beautifully right up until 3 weeks after the 1 year warranty was up and then it just went black. I was forced to have Apple send it to there repair people for a flat fee of $450. I do find it rediculous that a high end product like this lasted just 13 months till it died. I guess I got the short end of the stick on this one. I really should have gotten the extended warranty which would have covered it for 3 years. But I figured I have had TV's last forever.

As a monitor, it is one of the best. We use it as a our color corrected monitor for high end photography for major ad agencies and magazines worldwide.

I just wish it did not suddenly go black, apparently due to some kind of inner power circuit. And then had no choice but to use there "flat" $450 repair. Which by the way, has only a 90 day warranty from the new repair.

So get the extended warranty and enjoy it.

"Was a great monitor, but now outdated and soon to be replaced.", This monitor lacks a lot of features, and it makes sense because it was released in mid 2004. Apple has also officially DISCONTINUED it if you look on their web site. I'd encourage people to wait until Macworld '09 in SF this January, where they will likely introtuce new models with more competitive features (wide gamut, better viewing angles, contrast ratio, etc). If you need a monitor right now I'd look into NEC's high end 24" and 26" monitors.

"Overpriced", Apple monitors are seriously overpriced. It is a decent monitor, just much too expensive. For your money there are better alternatives.

If you want a good photo editing 24in LCD look at the NEC 2490WUXi. It is about 200 more but the screen is much better. It has an A-TW polarizer which increases the viewing angle and comes with an internal LUT for better calibration. Colorcomp help insure even colors across the the screen. Check out Reviews and you will find it is a pro quality monitor that matches monitors 2-3x the price. There is also a 26in version (2690WUXi) that is Wide Gamut, for those than need it. It is about 100$ more for that version. There are "spectraview" packages that include a one eye calibrator and NEC's software. Check out Hardforum.com for LOTS of good info on the subject.

"Great Monitor", I have one at work (I'm a graphic and web designer for an Ad agency) and now one at home and love them both. Both were purchased here at Amazon in August '08. The one at work was purchased to replace a 2004 model 23" Cinema HD (same model, just older) one that was stolen. That one had an obvious pink cast to it that was hard to correct even with calibration, but both of the new ones are beautiful and quite color "neutral." The 1920x1200 feels like a lot of room to work but not "too much" ...if that's even possible. If you can afford it, go for it.

"Apple 23" Cinema Display - WOW!", I originally bought this for my PC-based NLE workstation. It's not 100% PC compatible, as my system refused to boot with only this display connected to an ATI 3850 video card. It would boot OK with 2 displays connected, so I used it for a few weeks. A utility called "WinACD" helps enormously when using it with a Windows PC.

The monitor is well made with a solid aluminum frame and stand. It's got great details like a single cable connecting the monitor to a breakout box at the computer end, Firewire 400 and USB ports and unobtrusive touch switches for power and brightness. The power indicator thoughtfully goes dark during use to reduce distraction.

It so impressed me, I bought a Mac Pro to go with it!

I seem to have gotten one of the perfect ones with even backlighting and color and no dead or stuck pixels.
Details are sharp and clear and video plays well with no noticeable ghosting or jaggies. Fine details can be seen that aren't noticeable on other nearly as expensive monitors.
It's by far the best monitor of any kind that I've seen yet.

Have Fun,
Keri

Update: I confirmed that the incompatibility with my PC was a fault of the Video Card, not this monitor. A BIOS update of the Video Card resolved the issue with this and certain other DVI monitors.

"Apple 23" LCD display", Outstanding choice. purchased as a 2nd screen for another 23" Apple display. Color and brightness match perfectly between the screens.

"18 months death", My husband bought this monitor in September of 2006. Now it is dead. If you don't have money to burn, don't buy this monitor.--Rene

"Nice monitor need replacing every two years", I had a 22 inch cinema display. After a year and a half it would not start and gave me an intermittent black screen when I started up my G5. I decided to get a newer 23 inch display thinking nothing of it. After another year and a half, the same problem happened. I must say that this is an overpriced piece of hardware and I will never buy another one again. I have a viewsonic monitor that cost me almost nothing in comparison to the cinema display and it is still going strong after 3 years.
I would advise do not get one unless you don't mind wasting money, or want to use it as a TV tray when it breaks down, which is usually after the warranty.

"Much improved from first generations of these.", First versions had some burn in issues. Seems to have been resolved. Great monitors.

"Incredibly bright displays", I'm running two of these beautifully designed displays and must agree with others, these things are bright. I usually run these with the brightness turned up no higher than 50%. Although I admit that I do not do any print related work, these displays are exceptional for web design work.
