"Love Sims", I loved the original Sims and had most of the Expansion Packs. I bought Sims 2 from Amazon and to my surprise when it came I realized I had bought the DVD version. This caused a rush trip to Fry's to buy a DVD Rom for my computer. Darn!! :) I love it but to me it's a little more stressful because there is more at stake with your people. They have more desires, fears and dreams that you have to fulfill in order for them to die happy at the end of their life. But it makes it more challenging and I like that. Definately worth playing. And I got the University Expansion Pack for Christmas 2006 so I look forward to playing that soon.

"Amazing", I have always loved all the SIMS!!! I tried playing it at my friend's house i had to get it. EA really has improved it. My brother always hated Sims. he thought it was stupid but even he addmits it is pretty good. SOOOOO many new features. A ROUND OF APPLUSE FOR Maxis and EA!!!!!!!!

"DVD Edition versus CD Edition", I think that everything there is to be said about the Sims 2 has already been said (it's the best game I've ever played), but I'd like to point out the difference between the DVD Edition and the CD (aka normal) edition for those who may be confused.

The CD version contains 4 CDs, and the game's files are spread over these. This Amazon item, the DVD edition, comes with . . . you guessed it, a DVD, including the regular game plus some special features: behind the scenes with the creators, things like that. If your computer has a DVD drive, you should get this version because it has extra features for no extra cost.

"An Awesome Game!", I have always loved the Sims games in the past. I own many Sims games, including The Sims: Deluxe Edition, The Sims: Superstar, The Sims: Hot Date, and The Urbz: Sims In the City (For Nintendo DS), and I loved all of those games!

But when Sims 2 came out, I got somewhat nervous. If you look at the screenshots above, Sims 2 looks like a very complicated game. I was worried that it would be TOO complicated. I had also read some reviews about how building a house is very hard and confusing. But when I decided to buy the game, everything was proven wrong. I loved the full new 3D graphics, and building a house was not hard at all. Grant it, I must say that it took an hour or two to get used to the new location of all of the building buttons, but I had no other problems after that!

I love The Sims 2. It is by far the most played game on my computer! There are tons of new features. I'm not going to go on and on about the new features, since they are most likely listed in the "Editor Review" above. But some notable features that I enjoy are...

- The aging process...your Sims will not stay as a child, or an adult forever. After a certain amount of days, your Sim will grow into either a toddler, a child, a teenager, an adult, or an elder. And yes, sadly, your Sims die. But that is not the end!

- The family tree...after playing for awhile, you may find yourself with two elders, and one young adult. "Now what?" you will say to yourself. Never fear! You can now move your younger Sim out of the house when it is time for him to leave. That young adult can now start his life away from home. He will even take his traits with him, so when he has children, you will see some of grandma and grandpa in him!

- Creating your sim...you have so many options when creating your Sim, almost too many! You will be able to customize any part of body on your sim: the eyes, nose, eyebrows, makeup, bathing suit, fitness...everything!

- Aspiration Points...your sim now knows what they want, and these things they want are in the Aspiration button on the bottom of your screen. If they get what they want, you will receive "Aspiration Points". If the sim has many Aspiration points, he/she's aspiration bar will turn white, and he/she will be very happy! Plus, you can now "buy" special things (not available in buy mode) with your aspiration points.

Now I'm sorry if I went on too long (which I think I did) about the new features. To tell you the truth, just go out and buy the game! You will not be disappointed. But I must warn you that the Sims 2 is a very powerful game. BE 100% SURE THAT SIMS 2 WILL WORK ON YOUR PC. We just got a new Dell PC this February, and the game did not work on the old one, which is only about 3-years old. You will be very angry if you find out that the game doesn't run on your system. Plus, many stores will not take the game back for a refund if it has been open. To check the system requirements, go to www.thesims2.com, and search for "System Requirements".

"You need a top of the line computer!", I am so attached to all of my sim games but sims 2 was choppy on my sister's Dell, so I got my brother to buy a $200 graphic card, hard drive, processor, mother board, case, lcd monitor, etc... if you really want to play this game all out then I would recommend you do the same.

"Great game long loading time", I played the game for hours when I got it. My only complaint was that the game took a really long time to load and usually my computer is fast.

"Limitless and Relatable", I purchased the special DVD edition a week ago and have put in about 20 hours. Aside from playing Sim City 4 on a friend's computer for about 45 minutes, this is my first exposure to the Sim universe.

CUSTOMIZATION

The biggest appeal to the game is that it is limitless. Unlike other computer games with preset plots, where you kill the bad guy or alien, rescue the princess, and then you're done, this game is modifiable. Not only can you customize it, but the game developers, Electronic Arts (EA), also encourage it. Their official website contains links where you can download clothing (skins), decorations, objects, houses, and people. Players have turned themselves into fashion designers, interior decorators, and real estate developers (all in the Sim world, of course). If you don't like the music or movies that come with the game, you can add your own. If you don't like the characters that come with the game, you can create your own. A few websites have even created characters that look like celebrities. With the Sim Body Shop application, you can even create yourself and play yourself in the game. EA even tells you how to cheat the game, such as turning the aging off, so your Sims never grow old.

The game is time-consuming to say the least. Aside from the learning curve, you can manage multiple people, multiple clothes, multiple lots, multiple objects, multiple aspirations, and multiple neighborhoods. Many reviewers complain that the game did not come with many clothing choices, make-up choices, decorating choices, etc. I think EA knew that players would come out with a lot of custom content on their own, which they have. There is much to do and keep track. This game will keep you occupied for weeks on end.

Another appeal of the game is that we can relate to the lifestyles and aspirations of the characters. I don't know about you, but I have never driven any formula one race cars, traveled in space, or slayed any dragons. But, I can relate to the Sims. They eat, bathe, use the toilet, go to work, kiss, fall in love, have babies, shop, cook, clean, get sick, lose their jobs, get jealous, etc. What would happen if I quit my job and decide to throw a house party every other day? Or have five different girlfriends simultaneously? Or woo hoo in public? Or build a bright magenta kitchen that is the largest room in the house? Now I can find out.

PACKAGING & DOCUMENTATION

The special DVD edition comes with two disks: the game disk (which is used to install and play the game) and a DVD bonus disk, which has interviews with the game developers, including the game's creator. At the end of each interview, a game hint displays. The bonus disk also has a goodies section with banners, icons, wallpaper, and desktop backgrounds. The box also includes a user guide, PRIMA® Official Hint Book, and a list of key commands. The 76-page user guide is 4½"x7" and introduces all the features of the game. The PRIMA Official Hint Book is 4½"x6½", only six pages, and really just a teaser to get you to buy their full version 366-page book. The key commands sheet lists keyboard combinations for many of the commonly used commands. (I find this sheet most helpful for using the keyboard as much as possible, because I suffer from repetitive motion injury from using the mouse.)

FINAL NOTE

Please pay attention to the system requirements, because they are quite high. My computer is 15 months old and needed two drivers installed before I could get it to work without crashing/freezing. The game can eat much space on your computer especially if you download custom content.

"YOU ARE NOT WORTHY OF THIS GAME!!", I dont care about all the slams people have dropped on The Sims 2! This game is truely a work of art! The graphics alone make this better than the first game. There is so much more to do and see. The gameplay is fairly similiar to the original but its much more realistic and enjoyable. The only complaint I may have is the camera can be a pain to navigate at times. If this game isnt game of the year material I dont know what is!
