"Best $100 I've spent in Years - I'm sold on Apple now" I own all vista computers, but my next computer will be an Apple for sure. I bought this for one feature alone, to have wireless itunes in different rooms. I owned a Roku, but I lamented for years that I couldn't wirelessly sync the music to different rooms. Those days are over and my Roku is going on ebay tonight!
I was up and running in SECONDS and perfectly sync'd music between my living room (vista) and bedroom (express). I want to get another one soon! But I found out that there's shareware out there that'll let my use my other pc's (a sage box) as an airport express outlet so I can sync up pcs, macs AND airports!
And if you have an iphone or itouch, you can use it to remotely control all your devices too! To think I was on the brink of buying a sonos, but this solution is so much cheaper, upgradeable and all around wondeful.
Not to mention all the other benefits: --portabe wireless router when I'm traveling --portable usb power for ipod and other devices (blackberry?) --wireless usb printer --802.11 access point (this alone is worth at least a hundred bucks!) --wireless bridge to expand the wireless range in your home
I can't believe I was on the fence for so long, now I can't live without it and I've only had it for a few minutes!
"BUY FOR LESS DIRECTLY FROM apple.com" You can buy a new one for 89 to 99 dollars. I think it is cheaper if your college/institution has an agreement with apple. Also, if you want to just try this thing out without spending that kind of money. There is always refurbished versions that apple sells. They come with a warranty too, and they cost about 30 dollars. To find them go to the apple website, click the store tab then scroll till you see Refurbished Mac, then keep on scrolling till you see the Airport Express part. You save 71% buying a refurbished one.
"BUY FROM APPLE STORE FOR LESS" You can buy this product from the Apple store for $89.00. I don't like to see people trying to charge more than the products worth.
"AirPort Express" Easy to setup, even with a PC setup. Allows remote wireless printing with little trouble.
"$189.99? They're kidding, right?" I just checked the Apple Store online, and this great little router is currently selling for $89. 'Nough said.

What our customer's say!
"AE with ITunes", Got this to stream music from ITunes on Labtop to remote speakers of stereo. Just have to say that set up was easy. Set back was that after it was installed I found out that the connection is skipping since upgrade to ITunes 8. Problem is with ITunes and the company does not provide any support for this issue. With music dropping in and out this set up is not working any longer.
"Wow", For a bit over $100, I extended my wifi coverage and distributed an audio signal substantially better than any sound card I've ever had (lots).
I've had the AX for a year using wifi. My signal was too weak (distance and walls) and I was getting the inevitable dropouts at times.
I just changed it to a wired WDS approach to provide ethernet to the other side of the house and provide a good quality audio signal to our reference system.
The DAC is solid and provides a much higher quality signal than whatever is in my computer and an M-Audio sound card. The improved wifi coverage was substantially better than with a Hawkings amplified antenna could deliver.
Setup was not the simplest. I first attempted it in "Expert mode" (Airport Utility) and, while everything worked I was getting three different error messages. I then reset my AEBS (worked on a DI-624 as well) and AX back to factory defaults and let Apple's auto configuration tool do the work. Everything worked, no error messages. Then I went back in Expert mode and set some static IP's I need.
For the money, a really product and good execution by Apple.
This is a November update (installed in October): After listening to the Airport Express via the analog out and comparing the same radio station streamed from a Squeezebox, we realized although it is better than our soundcard, it leaves room for improvement. We added an outboard DAC. Although at least doubles the price, the addition of a DAC is highly recommended to those who value sound quality.
"Setup obscure but the thing works", The setup directions are almost useless, not unusual for consumer networking devices no matter who makes them. The most important thing to keep in mind is it takes time for the unit to connect to your router, just restarting after being powered off is slow. So don't get impatient. The instructions included in the review by C.P. Cavafy are very helpful and will get the job done just follow them and allow time for the device to connect. I use it to connect a Slingbox as well as the Air Tunes feature. It's perfect for both and is easily the most stable wireless access point I've used.
"Why is amazon recommending and obsolete over priced product", This product is listed by Amazon for over $200 yet the current Apple product is less than $100. It is extremely disappointing that obsolete products such as this are being recommended by Amazon.
"Dont buy this 4yr old version", Be an informed buyer. Note that M9470LL was first available June 14, 2004!!.
Be sure to get the newest version (Apple part number MB321LL/A) which has 802.11n and NOT this item (Apple part number M9470LL/A) which is 802.11a/b only.

"Awesome product but... NOT FOR TWICE WHAT APPLE SELLS IT", This product is incredible. Especially for a dorm room, the airtunes function my roommate and I use all the time as well as the central printer. Its really easy to set up, basically plug it in and do a little formatting for it and you're good to go. But on the negative side, Amazon.com is gouging the crap out of this item. You can get it @ apple.com for pretty much half the price. Please tell me why amazon can have an almost 200% mark-up. This is the last time I ever buy anything from amazon. GREAT PRODUCT, BUY IT FROM APPLE!!
"Product from AOnSale did not work", I ordered an Airport Express from AOnSale through Amazon and received a product with the information on the box as well as the information inside printed in Mandarin, this in itself obviously isn't a bad thing but it just seemed weird and was my first sign that something wasn't going to go quite right. From there on I spent approximately 10 hours trying to get the Airport to work, both by myself as well as on the phone with Apple Care experts, to absolutely no avail and quite a bit of frustration. In the end it simply did not work so I ordered one directly through Apple. I got that one 3 days later and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. The wireless signal is excellent and the AirTunes feature is outstanding. Connecting from the Airport to my receiver with an optical to mini plug (not the $40 Apple Monster cable set but one for half the price purchased at an Apple store) gives excellent sound quality. Once you get one that works this is an excellent product.
"Mine just died", Had one of these for about 3 years. During that time I was mostly pleased with it. Generally it would stream my music without problems, although sometimes it would lose the stream intermittently. This was enough of a problem sometimes that I would move the computer to the stereo and bypass the Airport Express altogether.
But my biggest complaint is that it died a few days ago. The light will not turn on, can't get it to respond. I'm starting to doubt the staying power of Mac accessories - I would think something like this would last until it's obsolete.
I am also not sure why the price is so high now, when I bought mine several years ago it was about 40% cheaper than the price I'm seeing now, with apparently the same functionality.
Can't really recommend this product. It would be great if it worked better and lasted longer. As it is, I'd call it overpriced and undermanufactured.
"Awesome router", Sure, it's a bit expensive, but this is seriously the best router I've ever used. I've never had a connection problem like I have with Linksys, or any problem for that matter. The AirTunes feature is awesome - something I use every day because I am always moving my laptop around and otherwise I would have to leave my computer next to my speakers every time I want to listen to music. I'm really surprised more routers don't support this feature. The range is sufficient because I live in a small apartment (700 square feet). No coverage problems here but I can't comment on how it would be in a large house. Another nice thing is the fact that this router only draws 2 Watts of power. I don't know how that compares to other from direct experience, but I read 10-20 watts on average, so the Airport Express is incredibly energy efficient. Sure it would be nice to have a newer faster router, but realistically I can't afford an internet connection that is faster than this router's maximum capability, so it's not much of an issue. The wireless printing ability is another feature I use every day and I could no longer live without.
Some routers have more ports, bigger antennas, etc, but in reality, I don't need any of that, and this router does everything I could ever want. After using this for 3 years I could never live with a router that didn't have USB printing and AirTunes capabilities.
I think I'm going to get a second one so I can put it in my other room and then I will be able to play music wirelessly in either room in my apartment.
"Works with Vista.", I bought Airport Express to have a wireless network along with a way to stream my music from laptop to stereo system. What is well known is audiophile quality of sound from it using the TOSLINK output but vista compatibility was unknown to me. It took me 8 frustrating hours during which time the Airport utility did not recognize my base station. Finally I slept over the problem left the airport connected to the Ethernet cable and reset the system the next day. (This is a small button near the audio jack- press this button down using a pin for at least 30 seconds and try not to be dainty about it). The vista system recognized the base station and connected to it automatically. My itunes also recognized the new set of speakers. I have been playing my audio and surfing the net without a problem for past 4-5 hours. It is good quality audio without skipping or distortion. Maybe some day I will run the airport utility program to set up the base station but for now I am leaving it unsecured.
