"Router signal improved", At home I placed this HGA7S antenna on my Linksys Wireless-G Broadband WRTP54G router and now both wireless computers get excellent signal level, and a steady 54Mb transfer rate, on both floors of my home.

I also installed a HGA7S antenna on my HP m8120 computer at church. With the supplied antenna from HP I got poor signal level, and a 2Mb transfer rate. After installing the Linksys High Gain Antenna for SMA Connectors on my HP m8120n computer, I get fair signal level and 24Mb transfer rate. That is pretty good for going 75 and feet through 5 walls.


"Linksys Antenna",

I find this unit to be of no advantage what ever. The signal has not improved, a waste of money.

"Double the range of my wireless router", I've screwed this device on to my compact Linksys router, a WRT54GC model. The antenna is huge, about 11" tall, and it dwarfs the little compact router. But its effectively doubled the range of the router, and I now get a good signal in the kitchen 2 rooms away which I didn't before and I do get a weak signal enough to work with, in an upstairs bedroom at the other end of the house. So its been a worthwhile investment. Only thing is, it should have been priced at around $30 or less; the current price isn't exactly fair.

"Worked as advertised", added another bar to signal received - went from poor to fair. Don't expect large improvement in signal strength - get a repeater for best results. Works great for my needs.

"it works", This antenna did exactly what I'd hoped it would do.
Signal went from 'good' to 'excellent' throughout my very small house.

"Easy to use, does what I bought it for", The antenna was extremely simple to set-up with the Linksys router. It pretty much does what I bought it for - extending the range of the router to reach deeper into my house.

"Antenna is worse than the standard antenna", Although this is a Linksys-branded antenna that is certainly much longer than the antenna that comes with Linksys routers, this add-on actually made my in-home signal worse! It is either defective, or this whole product line is simply not worth the money.

"Works as promised", I set up a linksys wireless router at my mother-in-laws house but was disappointed with its range. Her office and cable modem were set up in a corner of the basement and sigal strength was low on other floors. I installed the high gain antenna in a few seconds and it really boosted the signal strength. She can now access her network anywhere on the first two floors. Cheap and easy upgrade.

"works as described", The antenna added enough range to access the wireless router from a floor above, when previously a signal was not available.

"Upgrade antenna vs. Eliminate interference.", Interference is a very significant factor to keep in mind when trying to troubleshoot wireless communication problems. Interference causes the network to lose information and then it has to be retransmitted, sometimes several tries must be made to get successful transmission of the data.

Most wireless systems have the router/access point(s) placed fairly high in a room (i.e. on a desk or shelf) and away from AC power sources such as wall outlets, wall wiring, and power strips.

On the other end, the wireless adapter is placed inside the computer with an antenna hanging out the back of it right where all the aforementioned power sources are often located. In addition, several other cables -keyboard, mouse, power, monitor, sound system, etc. - are also sticking out the back of the computer. All of these wires and power sources can cause so much interference that the wireless antenna cannot do its' job properly.

Adding a higher gain antenna will likely improve the signal but it may not eliminate the interference. The solution is to get the antenna away from the computer and AC power sources. This can be done by adding an antenna extender cable and getting the antenna higher up on the wall(or a ahelf or tabletop) thus allowing the signal to be transmitted cleanly and clearly.

I did so and found that my signal quality and range were greatly improved even with the original +5db antenna that came with my wireless card. Now my internet is reliable, fast and consistent. No more dropped signals, no more fluctuating transmission rates and my internet page wait times have improved noticeably.

Interference is not the only cause of communications problems in wirless systems but it is one very important one to keep in mind.
