"DarkestHour Get a Clue!" DarkestHour Get a Clue! He Enough crying April 23, 2005
EQII is not getting bad ratings because people form other games are coming here and bashing it. The reasons why people who played EQII flame the game are numerous. Mostly caused by the imbeciles that took over S.O.E.
This game is like dumb blond you at meet at a bar, when your drunk. Wow she looks great/Best graphics I have seen in any game. That is level 1-10. Getting the feel of her/the game 11-20. enh she a dead fish. Level 21, The next morning your talking to her in the light of day and you realize eewwh I better get my self checked out/ you realize what the game is all about and there are many things wrong.
Lets see 1. To sell stuff you must leave the game running and you must stay in your in game room you can't go out to xp. BIT ME SOE What are your rooms for any way you, can't store gear in them, are they are just doll houses?
2. NERF, NERF, NERF! Every time SOE thinks some one is having fun playing their game not working at, they NERF the fun part!
3. The monthly cost to play the game. If you pay just the base price of $15 a month you will not be able to get in to many of the zones, you will have ½ the player slots and you will get ridiculed by your peers in the game. The real monthly cost of EQII is $27 per/month=$15 base price $7 all accesses pass $3 eqii.com. An $4 when SOE opens a new zone. Lets see guild war is going to have no monthly fees.
4. LAG and zoning. In the to main cites in EQII Qeynos and Freeport on the big servers they lag is so bad you can barely move. Have to spend 3 to 5 minutes every time you leave one zone and go to another gets old fast. Get lock out of full zones you group or raid is in made my nuts!
5. Getting the wrong reward for a class quest made me say ARRRR! I.E. the Bard to Troubadour class quest gave a one hand sword that prevents you form duel wielding. Useless for a damage dealer.
6. After level 10 soloing of any kind is pretty much done. You even need a group to craft after level 10 in crafting! I not much of a solo-er but still there are time when I wish to do a few things alone, but you cant in EQII
7. Not casual friendly at all. I can only play about 30 hours a week and that is not enough to go any where in this game.
8. Greed of S.O.E! S.O.E. has started selling equipment and characters for real money. Its big slap in the face for their players who invest thousand of hours to build a uber character and farm for gear.
9. The main reason not to play this game is it is just not fun. Wait in a spot for more that a day for a mobs to spawn no not fun. Killing the same mob 1000s of times o get one level not fun. Spending most of you gold buying crafting supply only to have the items brake when you try to make something nah not for me.
DarkestHour busting on wow will not prop up EQII. There is lot of content in WOW at 60, but you need to group. You can't solo the high end raid content. But WOW is no for every one. There are lot great mmopgs out there Guild Wars, City of Heros EQlive EQOA SWG. But EQII a ewwwh!
The sad thing is the old SOE made some truly outstanding games. The crew that took them over, is all about monthly fees. They do every thing they can to slowed down your in game progress. One of their games now has a quest mob named Skahyir that has an average spawn time of weeks. That is fun the new S.O.E. style.
"Enough crying...." All it is is WoW fanboys signing this and boosting down the reviews...really i played WoW have a 60hunter on archimonde alliance...1 lvling on that game = a joke can get 60 in about 2weeks if not less NOTHING to do once you hit 60 new honor sytm is a gdamn joke...all you do is join a raid group and zerg eachother and just stand far back enough not to be hit...no skills req'd high level instances are crappy all the same things over and over gameworld feels big but infact its so small..because theres only a few places you would even liek to go...no point in grouping because xp is split between party members..meaning if u solo a mbo for 100 xp u have a person in ur party ur getting 50xp so its all solo play unless you have a group quest that needs to be done...chances are you'll be bored with WoW before you even reach level 55...all the quests are the same EVERYONE from level 1 to 60 same stuff...all they do is change the color of a monster boosts its lvl//hp//atk pwr and call it something else...you repeat the same things from lvl1 to lvl60...so pls do not rate EQII lower because WoW has the most players leaving per month then any other mmorpg in history...now for a GOOD game why dont you try EQII ppl are a lil upset because this game asks you to put in some effort and not expect everything handed to you liek WOW is? lol...really enough stop crying and play a real game thx
"Try the demo, then buy WOW." Well, I was curious how this game would be with all the hype. I almost bought it, but then decided to buy WOW since I'm a big fan of Blizzard. Today I found the EQ2 demo online and gave it a try. First, you will need a powerful computer to play this game with. I could not get any decent game play on my Athlon 64 3000 with 2 gigs of ram and a geforce 5500. To get any decent amount of movement out of the characters required me to dump the quality down to unacceptable levels. So, I decided to move this to my main Machine (Athlon 64 3400 w/geforce 6800 GT) and I was able to up the gfx up to acceptable levels. I still was not able to set the gfx to their highest quality. Second, While I constantly hear people raving about the graphics in this game I have to disagree. Most of the characters... no, all of the characters look like they were dumped out of Poser (a canned 3d model creation program... considered a toy by any real 3d artist) and they all lack any kind of personality. The only place where the graphics look good is in the texturing and the fancy shaders, but this stilldoesn't hide the lousy modeling job. In on of my characters, as he runnes and moves you can see a polygon (a flat triangle) poke out of his rear end. This is inexcuseable. Also, I would have to say that these people have never actually seen a drawing/painting of dwarf or an elf. the lack of atristic talend in the 3d modelers shows the greatest here. All the humanoid characters look the same except for height or pointed ears. While you could say that WOW looks more cartoony, it's obvious that a lot more talent went into the creation of the characters in that game.
Next, lets talk about the voice acting. It sucks. End of story.
Ok, now for the game play. Go fetch this. Ok, now go fetch that. Ok, now go fetch that other thing. Ok, now go fetch this other thing. Ok, I know this is the basis of most MMORPGs, but there's not even a story behind the quests in EQ2. You feel like you're some kind of delivery person. WOW has a great story and each character is very unique in it's race and it's background and this really adds to the game play. EQ2 has nothing of interest.
Bottom line: I'm glad there was a demo for EQ2, because it just saved me about $30.00.
"All the best of EQ I, with more" I LOVE THIS GAME.
I dont know what all the fuss is about..EQ always stirs up so many different feelings with people! Let's face it, it is a complicated game & not for those whose only purpose is to "WIN", and surely, if you don't have extra time, you won't get to enjoy the game to its fullest. I played the original EQ from 1999-2003 until I got burned out.. had many high level characters.. got tired of the politics of that world. Now that I am playing EQ II, I find that some of the changes to the character classes are annoying (for example, you can't cast SOW on someone not in your group.. so no more selling SOW on the streetcorner for extra $ :P), but some are a relief (you don't have to have a Wiz or Druid teleport you around, as you can teleport yourself to your home city, and if you are buffing people, you dont have to recast every time someone adds or leaves your group.. as these spells work like bard affects!! yay).
There are many more classes and occupations to choose from, and it is so much easier the way selling is set up... you don't have to stand in NFP or ...(cant remember the name of the city in Luclin where everyone sold things)... in a laggy zone, trying to read the WTS, WTB... blah, blah...Just go to your Inn room (everyone gets one to begin with), make a few adjustments, and your items appear for sale in the local shop.
Selling, crafting, cooking, etc... all much more efficient. You dont have to go gathering food ingredients in some obscure zone if you want to cook. THAT was so annoying in EQ I. Since the world is still fresh, you dont have big high level guilds overpowering the world, yet anyway. Even the zones which came directly from EQ I are different now! And, HOW COOL IS THIS? You can have a companion PET (like a kitty cat or a pig)! hehe... or if you are really into it, you can save money and buy a house of your own and fully furnish it. The graphics are incredible & there are so many cool details in the environment, spell affects, armor, etc.. but make sure you have a highish level system, or forget it... heck, your system probably wont even run it at all.
The only disappointing things for me are: although there were many appearance options to choose from at initial character creation, some parts were limited (much more so than SWG, or even Horizons).. you cant change facial structure, body shape, etc. Also, I'm really disappointed in the emote animations...most other MMORPG these days did a better job with those. Another thing, is it is hard to get used to the changes to each class level, if you've been used to playing a particular type...
But let the old EQ go with all your expectations of it, and you will SO enjoy EQ II!!!! It's better.
"Pricey but quality" I've been playing MMORPGs (beta and released games) for over 5 years now, and I keep coming back to Sony Online Entertainment games. Both EverQuest and it seems now EverQuest II have staying power with me. I am finding the graphics and complexity of the world in EQ2 amazing, sometimes breathtaking. I will definitely find it hard deciding how to divide my game time between the two.
The Collector's Edition adds things that chiefly make you have a nicer "home" in game. The art book is nice to look at, but not full-sized like most collectable art books tend to be. The other items found inside the box also tend to be things you'll look at once or twice and then put away in a drawer. If you can do without owning a baby dragon, which just is something cute inside your house, you can get by with a standard edition (DVD or CD-ROM).

What our customer's say!
"Very slow", The grafics are really good but the game is a little bit slow how the move and how the game goes, I really didn't like the game, you spect more of the game but you get dissapointed when you play it.
"Everquest II", Game rocks and is fun to play I am sort of hooked at playing it now...
"Incredible Improvement", I love playing mmorpg games. For awhile I played the first everquest. Eventhough the graphics weren't great the game was well done. However, everquest II has taken care of that problem very well. The new graphics and characters along with new quests and enemies has made for a great new game. I recommend this game to all those who love RPGs.
"A very experienced gamers review", First, my credentials: I am a level 51 Necromancer and I also have several alts in the 30s. I have played this game as a soloist and a group player and I can tell you the real story on experience. First, solo play is the fastest way to level period. The assertion that group play gets more experience is flat out wrong. The game divides all divideable loot and experience, items that cant be divided are given to group members on a lottery system. Anyone that tells you otherwise is a debutante or they just never figured out the whole up and down arrow system. I see a lot of really impatient people with the wrong ideas on what makes the game work. This game is all about investment-time and thought. If you choose a group player class charachter, you won't be able to solo well. There is a class guide that tells you what players can solo and what can't at SOE, the game publisher. You have to choose what you want to be with a lot of thought. If you are a loner or you can't get along well in a group, don't choose to be a group dependent player. Necromancers, Conjurers, Shadow Knights and Palladins are the kings of the solo world. This game is very entertaining, but don't think that it is like a first person shooter game that you can just start playing and figure it out as you go along. If you choose the wrong class for your personality or you invest your time or gold in a spell or item that is not the best choice for your class, you can really handicap your player for a long time. This game is for the serious on line gamer. If you like flame wars in chat, you won't do well in EQ2, best to stick with Battlefield2 and the like. The best players are mostly older, and surprisingly, there is a huge percentage of women playing. Though the women tend to stick together or play only with their own guilds. Occasionaly, if you are a smart player (Translation is you bring overwhelming force to the group), the women will invite you to group play on quests. One final note, you can't do class quests in group. You have to solo them in instanced zones. Whoever said it is otherwise has obviously not leveled through class specialization. Only the player needing the specialization can make it through the door.
"Game lags like hell - but I'm STILL playing...", Okay, I can almost hear all of you asking me: "WHY? are you NUTS?"
Firstly, my computer is just under the minimum recommended spec required for this game: AMD Duron 950 (100MHz FSB), 1GB 133MHz SDRAM (yes the old stuff), Radeon 9800Pro 128MB (Running at 4X AGP) - You get the idea. I have the game on low settings, except for the main texture quality, that is set to HIGH. This game is *just* about playable for me (although some of you may disagree) I get anywhere between 5 - 10 FPS in the cities, and higher indoors. But it lags, and quite serious lag sometimes.
But I'm still playing. And I'm not planning on quitting. And SOE are welcome to the monthly fee that I will pay - gladly.
What's in.... THE BOX!?
The collector's edition of this game comes beautifully presented in a shiny metal box. Opening the box you find: a velvet pouch with collectors coin, a cloth map of the world, a glossy poster map of the main cities, a glossy poster of Antonia Bayle - signed by Heather Graham - and a pic of Lucan D'Lere - signed by none other than Christopher Lee (otherwise known as Saruman in LoTR), a thick glossy book full of game artwork, a glossy manual and a hardback gatefold CD case containing both game DVD's, a music CD and a Bonus DVD (4 discs in all).
It's quite a package, and strangely, I found myself cackling with glee as I was rummaging through its contents. After installing (4.5GB!) and getting into the game, I typed in /claim, and found to my surprise that the collector's edition of this game also includes in-game items as follows: A choice of paintings (to be put in your Inn room after leaving the Isle of Refuge), A statue of Lucan or Antonia to put in your Inn room(and they talk when you click on them), and a baby dragon pet in your choice of colours (it also does tricks). What can I say? Pretty cool stuff - but you're paying for it, don't forget!
The Game
Now, I want you to ask yourself if you like clear purpose in an RPG. Think about all those great single player RPG's of the past that included great storylines and quests. Let me tell you that if you like quests, then you will love Everquest 2's excellent quest system. The game designers have put a lot of thought, effort and time into the stories, quests and reward system, and it's all brought to life by the outstanding voice-overs of the NPC's. It didn't take long for the LAG I was telling you about before, to become... how shall I say? ... more unnoticed. In fact, I was already planning my next PC upgrade.
The game really comes to life when you leave the Isle of Refuge and partake in the well thought-out initial quests to get you used to the city, your Inn room and the places to hunt. The NPC's chatter away as you go about your business - e.g. I saw one of the Ratonga rat men weilding a hatchet and chasing a cat through the streets of Freeport with a comical voice over of "Here kitty kitty!". Moments later the cat was chasing him instead, hissing and yowling, while the Ratonga was shouting "Helllp!.. I'm being chased by dinner!"
The game is full of these comical moments, and it draws you in, gives the world life. This game is very immersive - even more so than the original Everquest. Dangerously immersive. Hmmm... this game could be a real life stealer - but I'm not sure yet if this is a Pro or a Con.
Everquest2 is all about adventure - more so than any other MMORPG that I have played to date (and I've been playing them since the early MUD's). It has the same fun level that I experienced with single-player games like Baldurs Gate and BGII. And even though I have played the original Everquest, EQ2 is completely new to me, has that element of exploration and adventure... and good clear sense of progress right from the start.
But this game requires a COMMITTMENT.
If committment scares you, or if you don't have the time to truely sink yourself into this game - then I wouldn't recommend it for you! I'm going to take time off from real life, and become what I call "a computer hermit" for a month or so. I won't shave or wash much, I won't see the light of day for a while. Grocery shopping will be done online, or from a phone.
You get the idea. If you want a "casual" gaming experience, try WoW out for style. But if you're hardcore, like me. You know what to do..... (bwhahahahaahahaaaaa!)
Pros: Graphics, Sound, Quests, Animation, Community, Can Solo (all the way with the new solo monsters that SOE have added), Player Housing, Guild system, Group System, Combat, Item system, Voice Acting, The way that swarms of bats fly in caves, The way that flocks of birds realistically fly outdoors, Fish (and fishing), Tradeskills, Mining, Gathering/Harvesting and the whole lack of... boredom.
Cons: Price, Monthly fee, REQUIRES High-End system (works good after messing with the game settings on my friend's 3200 AMD barton, 1GB DDR RAM, Radeon 9800Pro), REQUIRES time to play - but if you're patient I suppose you could "casual" this for a time, It's by Sony - so cust support might be sketchy, Expansions to the game are PAY, Game special features are PAY, Overall the game is EXPENSIVE, your real life sanity (and/or relationship with girlfriend/boyfriend) may be at RISK.
And that's all I can think of. Hope you find the info above ^^ useful.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Great Game!!!!!", Okay im a 13 year old and have played the first Eq for 4 years. I was a beta tester for EQ 2. It has stunning graphics and its cool how the NPC's talk now. It is the only Online Game i know of where walking to NPC's is interesting. It has a better system of fighting than the first EQ as it looks like the people are really fighting. I am disturbed by reviews that say that there will be no PVP, please reread the EQ2 or EQ2 Realms website it clearly states that there will be PVP will be possable in a diffrent way. [...] For those who say there are only 2 cities there are only 2 starting cities and there are other ones. This game is one of the best! My personal favorite It is the best. This is on my top 10 list of games to buy. Give it a try! You will like it.
"SoE's BIG mistake", First, the game is beautiful and loads of fun to play but SOE has let alot of their loyal eq customers down by limiting you to 4 Characters per Account! We(the beta testers)for weeks gave feedback and constructive reason for allowing more than 4 per account. They ignored us. So, if you are one of the people who likes to try all the class/race combos but hates deleting a character that you might like to come back to; it seems SOE for whatever reasom doesnt care. For me EQ's replayability and the number of characters I could have and play were what kept me hanging around for 5 years.
"Quite a bit of mis-information in some of these reviews", To those out there who are afraid this game will only only have 2 cities, I think that has been a misunderstanding. Although the main EQ2 page mentions only 2 STARTING cities that are at war, they seem to quite clear that they want the rest of the world to be somewhat of a mystery. ...in it you see a halfling city looking extremely like the Shire in the LOTR, wooden lifts into a city that looks alot like an updated version of Felwithe in EQ1, and a few other locations that seemed like they were new cities. In all honesty, I think we're going to be in for a bit of a suprise in terms of what is hiding in this game. Whether SOE keeping things a secret other than Qeynos and Freeport will be helpful or harmful - Im not sure - but my personal belief is that we are going to see quite a bit from the original game.
"Amazing", Been in Beta from Day one. This game is amazing. I dont see how anyone could not like it. It does require a decent system but not overboard. 5 stars and if I could give it more I would. Buy the game you will love it. Also ... EVERQUEST 2 5 stars ++++++
"Great MMO Game if you have the setup", This game is better than the first, I've been in the beta for just under a week now and love the game a lot. It's really easy to get into and the graphics look amazing even on balanced settings.
I look forward to this game should be great. Don't listen to the WoW fanboys this game is going to be just as good as the last. Don't get me wrong WoW is a good game too, I was in the stress test for that. Sadly I won't be picking it up because I already have a subscription to SWG and I just couldn't get into WoW until the very end of the stress test
