"Perfect in every regard! 3rd Netgear Gigabit for ME!", HI.
I already have 2 of these switches and needed a third one. Granted the first two were bought elsewhere but the 3rd was bought on Amazon and now I can give it a glowing review.

The switches look great.....they stack perfectly. They do not run hot when being used in a semi-closed closet type situation and the LED's make it very easy to tell if you are getting full gigabit or 100bt. (GREEN GIGABIT, Yellow - 100base-t).

Simplistic design, great styling, and perfect compatibility.

"Does what it's supposed to..", Great switch. Took it out the box, plugged it in.. plugged in my ethernet cables and it works!! No issues and it looks great on my desktop :)

"Works as advertised", The switch is truly plug-and-play. No drivers to mess with. Currently using 6 of the 8 ports for my home office with very little heat coming off the switch. Would recommend it to others.

"Netgear 8 Port Gigabit Switch", Easy to setup, works well. It does get a little warm so make sure you have it in a well ventilated area and don't stack it.



"8 port gigabit switch", NETGEAR GS608 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch Plugged in the Ethernet cables, plugged in the power and the unit was up and running. Like plugging in a toaster.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Works good.", Well built, clean. All products like this should be built this well. Looks a little like it was designed by Apple.

"Works Great - no noise, not much heat", It just works, sits there and has been working for over a year now. There hasn't been any noise or heat problems, reliability has been great. I will get another one when I need to.

"Great Switch", I purchased two of these switches 30 days ago and have had zero problems with them. Their performance is as advertised. Setup was a breeze. Highly Recommended.

"AVOID THIS MODEL!", Netgear tends to make a fairly decent product for the price, but the GS608v2 is flawed.

Random ports on the switch will infrequently negotiate 1000Mbit speed and will fall back to 100 after about 3 min without a link. Other ports work just fine at 1000Mbit, but you will have to experiement to find the ones that do work. On top of that, some network devices will not negotiate at all including two 100Mbit laptop network cards, one 3com and one xircom which are very solid, reliable devices in any other situation, but do not work with this switch.

Other users complain of overheating issues or freezing issues that require a power cycle, or even complete failure after about a month, but I have only had mine a few days so those problems havent come up yet.

Go with any other 8 port gigabit model. This one is not worth the hassle. I can only hope netgear will allow me to RMA this item for some other model.

"Will do Jumbo frames BUT...", According to the Netgear site, for jumbo frames to work, you need to have a serial number starting with 1DR or 127x5B or 127x5C. I would suggest you get the latest firmware also.

The switch will need to be configured correctly before jumbo frames are supported. You must also have an ethernet adapter capable and configured to support jumbo frames.

For the price it's a good deal; especially if you do backups from PC to PC, or PC to NAS.
