Not up to par with Cameron Crowe's later work, FTaRH features a pastiche of scenes and characters in search of a plot or guiding thread; 80s nostalgia aside, it's not a very special or interesting movie.

"Best High School Comedy I've Ever Seen ", FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH is the best comical high school movie I've ever seen along with the fact that this DVD has some very interesting bonus features on it as well like showing scenes of "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" where they played a popular hit song in the 1980's like "She's Gonna Be Somebody's Baby Tonight" by Jackson Browne, "We Got The Beat" by The Go Go's, etc.

In addition to some of the interesting bonus features on this DVD, it showed the cast & crew of "Fast Times" like Sean Penn(Jeffrey Spiccolli), Judge Reinhold(Brad Hamilton), Phoebe Cates(Linda), Jennifer Jason-Leigh(Stacey), Bobby Romanus(Mike Damone), Brian Backer(Mark Ratner)etc.; talking about their experience with doing the movie and looking back on it when it was released back in the Summer of 1982.

This movie also had Nick Cage, Eric Stoltz, Tony Edwards, Forest Whittaker in it before they all became stars and got bigger roles with their acting careers.

"Fast Times At Ridgemont High" also shows you the typical bad habits, bad inluences, peer pressures, raunchy fantasies, growing pains, teens humpin around, T&A, etc. that most high school students experience at a typical high school in their teen years by showing lots of nudity and sex, especially when Stacey(Jennifer Jason-Leigh)gets laid twice and lies about her age when she does hubba hubba for the first time showing everything, but her coochie.

This movie also takes me all the way back to memory lane when Ronald Reagan was the president and we had all those budget cuts going on from the recession we had back in 1981-1982, especially when Mike Damone(Bobby Romanus) tells his buddy over the phone that he knows "Times Are Tight" right now, which just so happened to be true in real life when this movie was made and when it was released in the theatres, because of the economy being so bad back then at the time in real life.

"the movie about nothing says a lot", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is the quintessential teen/'80s movie. And it's one of those movies that I can watch over and over again and never get tired of because it's so funny.

It's hard to say who my favorite person was in the film because everyone was likeable in their own way. I probably like Jennifer Jason Leigh the best as Stacy because there was a certain charm and innocence to her that none of the other characters really had. Judge Reinhold gave an exceptional performance as Stacy's older brother, Brad. He was just such an '80s type of guy, wouldn't you say? The scene with him in the bathroom when Linda (Phoebe Cates) caught him was just too much. I don't think I ever laughed so hard. Robert Romanus as Mike Damone was so hot. He totally reminded me of Ricky from "Just One of the Guys".

My favorite part was when Stacy went and got the abortion because you just don't see that in movies, especially teen movies. It is very rare to see consequences of irresponsible behavior depicted in a movie of this genre and I do not know of any other teenage movie that actually has a character get an abortion besides this. Sure they always talk about it, but no one ever has the balls to get one. This was certainly unique in that regard.

Sean Penn gave an excellent performance as Mr. Jeff Spicoli, the school's resident loser. Although he's featured on the cover of the DVD the movie is hardly about him and he receives very little screen time, compared to the others. But over time Spicoli has become so identified with this movie since his brief scenes were all very memorable (I especially like the part when he tumbles out of the van).

The movie has some occasional cussing and nudity but if you're not a total prude then you certainly won't be offended. If you enjoyed this movie or think you may like it (chances are you will) then I recommend getting the DVD because the bonuses are excellent and the picture quality is stunning. But if you don't have the money (and heaven knows I'm tightening my pocketbook right now) don't worry because it comes on HBO all the time (usually in the early mornings or late at night).

"Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is totally a movie about nothing. There really isn't a basic plot or story and the movie all-of-a-sudden ends without much excitement or fare. But that's why it's so perfect because it's the type of movie you can watch and not have to worry about thinking because it won't make you think about anything. You will just laugh. There're so many teen movies in the '00s that try to be special and try to send a message but none of them are as clever or as funny as "Fast Times" will always be.


"Good, classic movie!", Fast Times has always been a classic comedy. Who could ever forget the name Jeff Spiccoli?? Good movie to see if you haven't already, but don't watch it with your younger children.

"Not the best teen comedy.", Fast Times at Ridgement High is a bit over-rated probably because of all the nudity and sex but the cast makes up for the rauchiness. Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nicolas Cage, and Forest Whitaker have great roles in this comedy and Amy Heckerling is a fun and modern director but this movie doesn't stay with me for some reason. Ray Walston is hilarious as the teacher, his banter with Sean Penn is my favorite part. This movie is good but not great, just watch it for Sean Penn's airhead loving performance.


"Dated, but Still the Best High School Movie Ever Made", Look past what people were wearing in this movie. There is no better high school comedy out there. The cast is ridiculously stacked with successful actors. Nicholas Cage and Eric Stoltz were basically extras as was Forest Whitaker. Sean Penn was absolutely amazing. I'm surprised he was ever able to do anything that wasn't Jeff Spicoli. He became that character and is lucky he wasn't type cast for the rest of his career.

What makes this movie really work is that it never treated high schoolers like they were idiots. Sure, there was the usual high school stupidity, but it was the stuff we've all seen in real life but presented with a great sense of humor. Cameron Crowe wrote a fantastic story, and Amy Heckerling worked it to perfection. Young people who haven't seen this movie need to check it out. Those of us not so young people need to watch it to remind us what problems face today's young people. Most of all, everyone should watch it for the laughter.

"hd-dvd comedy", Fast Times at Ridgemont High (HD DVD & DVD Combo) as jeff spicoli would say- "far out, man" ! This dual layer hd-dvd and standard dvd combo is the one you should own, though way too short on extras like interviews with cast and crew members like the elusive Sean Penn. The picture is stunning in HD detail, the acne just jumps off the screen and the re-mixed audio, though not true digital, is a little washed out and sounds more like early dolby pro-logic processing. The extras are on the standard dvd , which is a pain to access and should have been placed completey on the HD disc for continuity, but having the standard disc gives the viwer the opportunity to make comparisons between the "old" format and hi-def, and it is a wonder to behold. Colors are bright, blacks good and detail sparkles. Commnetaries feature Cameron Crowe and Amy Heckerling who sound like they are sharing a doobie while editorializing, must have been great fun for them - it was for this viewer! Recommended

"*Great Movie!*", I love this movie.It is great.I cannot believe I did not see this movie when I was younger.I am so glad I finally bought it.A true classic for anyone who grew up in the 80's.Highly recommended.

"this one defines CLASSIC", THIS is a blast from the past. Was funny then and is funny now. Its got a great cast of so many young stars that really would go on to Great hollywood carreers. That made the commentary on the film by the creators a treat to listen too as they reflected back on the cast and the roles etc......i liked that alot. The movie itself holds up well over time. A classic movie has alot of classic scenes and i was a highschooler when this came out so it was GREAT revisit to a classic comedy.
