"Too bad I can't give it 0 stars." QIF imports have been eliminated. Too bad for you! This is the first program that I have used that removes functionality in higher versions. Stick with Quicken 2004 and you will be fine.
"Quickly Quicken" Upgraded from Quicken 2001. Seamless and painless installation; took all of 3 minutes to install and import my current files. The 2005 version has a sleeker look, more features, yet is, if anything, simpler to use than 2001's version.
"QIF format is NOT supported in Quicken 2005+" I upgraded from Quicken 2002 to 2005 and was shocked to find that QIF was no longer supported for most account types and there is really NO substitute for QIF. QIF support is totally gone in Q-2006. The new OFX format does NOT replace all of the QIF functionality. For example if you had Quicken 2005 you would not be able to merge your wife's and your own financial data into a single Quciken file. If you had an earlier version of Quicken you could use the export/import to QIF to accomplish this.
In addition things have moved around, etc and I find myself having to learn how to use the program all over again. Manual investment account entries are actually harder and more time consuming to enter in Quicken 2005 than in 2002.
I plan to return my 2005 version and keep using the more functional older version. I do not understand why Quicken eliminated the QIF feature. Their website gives a vague reason but I do not believe it. Too bad they didn't do a little research to see what their customers want.
"QIF Data Import disabled beginning this release" From Quicken:
We are implementing the changes to QIF Data Import in three phases.
In phase two, with the release of Quicken 2005 for Windows, QIF Data Import will no longer be available for checking, savings, 401(k) and all other brokerage accounts.
Why: Some of the limitations with QIF include the following:
QIF was never designed to be a transaction download standard, it was designed for technical support purposes. QIF Import can lead to duplicate transactions. QIF Import requires a multiple step process for data import. QIF does not allow Quicken to automatically set up accounts within Quicken. QIF is not supported by Intuit technical support.
Flawed Logic: So forcing the user to enter all of the transaction individually by hand will solve these problems? I don't think so.
Quicken has also the flawed logic that customers will switch from non-cooperating institutions to get OFX support. Not me.
"Too much advertising" It seems with every upgrade Quicken adds more and more advertising for their online products. Their bill-paying "service" charges $9.95 per month for 20 checks. Any bank or credit union worth their salt will do the same thing free! Knock off the ads and I will remain a faithful users.

What our customer's say!
"Quicken Deluxe", I have used Quicken for a long time. It works very well and it can save a lot of time if you set it up correctly. I use it mainly to keep track of bank accounts, credit cards and stocks.
"What a worthless piece of garbage", I could probably crap out a program that works better than this one. Downloading transactions with this is just a migraine and a half since it would not download from my institution. I just kept getting error messages when I knew all my information was correct. I had this thing set up and running fine for about a month and then this starts happening. I've had to reload this program before just because it's been a major pain in my a#@. I whole heartedly agree with a previous reviewer that I would have given this zero stars if at all possible. Amazon people can you make a function so that I can give this zero stars and rest at peace. Find something better to use than this POS. I hope this helps and have a very bad day.

"Functions work but import limitations", The most frustrating aspect of Quicken is that when you upgrade it destroys all your detail. I lost a lot of work because of that. I've never really recovered from having over 1 year worth of detail lost. There was no warning when I upgraded and couldn't get back the detail. The functions are work but my bank offers csv format. It can imported into a worksheet and saved as an excel file. However I couldn't find a way to import that data. I also used Versacheck and couldn't import that data either. These are major problems, even if you are a loyal customer who upgrades regularly.
"Transaction Recognition? I don't think so.", I purchased Quicken based on its claims to have greatly improved auto-recognition of bank transactions.
I can't imagine what it was before, because it rarely recognized any bank transactions into categories, even when it was a recurring charge or bill.
I stopped using it, but afraid to return to MS Money given all of the newly reported bugs in that software.
"Very Poor Performance", I have been a Quicken user for 15 years and recently upgraded from 2004 to 2005 deluxe. To date, this is the slowest performing release yet. After spending many hours with quicken support via e-mail, chat and on the phone, no one could help. I also found may other users in Google groups indicating the same poor performance. Another big drawback is that in 2005, there is only partial support for QIF files. I used these frequently and can not understand Intuit's logic on removing this feature. I plan to request a refund for this product directly from Intuit.

"Quicken Licensing fees to Institutions limit ability to DL account information", I have been a loyal Quicken user for years but because of the .qif issue have decided not to go with 2005/2006. Quicken is a good product which has many beneficial features for money management, but when I investigated the .qif issue what I learned made me decide to abandon the program--not an inconsiderable inconvenience. My reasons are set forth below. If there are any errors of fact, I would be glad of correction from Intuit.
Quicken (Intuit) has decided to stop supporting .qif interchange. They have devised a new format. An institution which wishes to offer its customers the opportunity to transfer information to individual users' latest version Quicken programs must now use this format, and to do so the institutions must agree to pay licensing or other fees to Intuit. I do not know the details of the fee structure; they may vary depending upon the institution or particular circumstances. I do know that many institutions (such as I believe our credit union) have found these fees more than they feel they can justify; for some the costs have been reported as high as several dollars per transaction. Thus one can understand why Intuit might wish to disable the .qif format; if users could continue to import via .qif, users and financial institutions might be inclined to forgo any additional benefits of the newer transfer format in exchange for saving on licensing fees. One unfortunate additional consequence of this for the user is that the ability to export and import individual account data within the program (say from one user's quicken file to another) has been affected. There may be some workarounds I have not come up with yet, but they aren't quick and easy!
Information about all this is available on the Intuit website, and there are links to discussion groups where all views on the matter (including those of unhappy customers) are presented, although it is perhaps understandable that Intuit does not emphasize the possible inconvenience and/or expense which this change may entail.
Personally I am a traditionalist, and I deplore all such situations where my business relationship becomes itself a product which is owned and exploited by third parties. Intuit is correct that consumers are free not to buy their product. The alternative is of course Microsoft...and one is always free to procure ink, goosequills, and a ledger book a/la Bob Cratchit.
"5 months and no problems..", I upgraded five months ago from Quicken 2001 Basic to Quicken 2005 Deluxe and have had no problems. Everything converted fine and I gained a lot of functionality. I have no complaints at this point. I do hope however that Intuit takes to heart the flood of criticism from legions of loyal users. I hesitated upgrading due to their reviews. Their opinions do make a difference. I hope that Intuit will seriously address their concerns with next year's offering.
"no problems here", I have been using quicken for my years; like others I was forced to upgrade from 2002, which made me mad, and nervous reading all the negative reviews here. However I really like the appearance of the new quicken; I have been able to download transactions from my credit card, actually I could not get it to work on 2002, but it is almost flawless here (for some reason it did not pick up international transactions). I do bill pay through my online bank, so I have no experience with that. Otherwise all the data (8 years) was converted without a problem. (I did try Msft Money but found all sorts of problems converting data). So I say that probably there are more happy people out there with this product but they are just not leaving reviews. Good luck.
"Buyer beware!", I have used quicken for years, mostly just to manage my bank account and household expenses. In the past I have encouraged others, including my own children, to buy and use Quicken. But no more! They have taken a wonderful, easy to use product and turned it into a nightmare of captive registration, popup advertising and other annoyances. I hope the managers at quicken read the Amazon reviews and get a clue. They certainly don't make it easy to give them feedback on their web site, so I don't really think they care what their customers think. Potential buyers should note carefully the fact that quicken has only a 1-1/2 star rating. There is a reason for this. Buyer beware. I gave them a two-star rating because once you get everything installed and working, the product does it's job nicely. It is the installation, captive registration and advertising that I objected to. Captive registration? I absolutely could not use the product until I had "registered" on their web site. This was really outrageous! I had already paid my money. I didn't want them to have my name and address email and phone number. But I had to give it to them or the product didn't work. This was not a polite rquest for registration. This was an in your face, you can't get out of this screen until you fill it out ... correctly... registration. Then they tried to force me to keep my data on their web site. No way! Ads would pop up during installation; they dropped commercial icons onto my desktop without permission. I had to remove them. Maybe some folks would appreciate these "features" and use the services of lenders, etc whose icons they conveniently dropped on my desktop. But I didn't appreicate it.
"Poor customer service", I have been using Quicken for almost 10 years now and the most recent 2005 really has been a headache although I have used it successfully until today.
The back up system was perfectly fine until this version and now I have my head spinning. Luckily I have managed to wade through that part.
Today I was entering 401k transactions manually as I have done for years and everything was going smoothly until I noticed my balance in the account was double what it should be. I looked over all the transactions and nothing was entered incorrectly. So I deleted them and the balance was still double. HUH!!!???
So I decided to restore from my back up copy and it was back to normal. So I then reentered all my bank transactions and backed it up. :) Then started manually entering each 401k transaction for each of my investment accounts. I got through 6 of the 7 Investments and on the last page I put in the info and everything was accurate and hit enter and bam the balance was double again. I deleted that transaction and it still remained double. ARGH!!!!
I then decide to call Customer Service and chat on line and was informed he was not trained in Investments and I would have to call them for $24.95. I was not happy about having to call for something that was obviously a bug in their own program.
I ended up calling and during the call I explained I didn't want to pay the $25 and she told me I could chat and it wouldn't cost and I informed her that he was unable to help me and told me I would need to call. I decided I was not willing to pay the $25 and now will be looking for other options for my banking.
2005 sucks!!! There is just too much added for someone who wants it for everyday living.
