What our customer's say!
"This game is Ok", This game is OK, like if I did live back in the 80s I might of given this game a better review since when I play games I like them to be realy special. There were some flaws in this game like you can only buy one potion at once and to save you have to kill yourself like when I have to do something else I have to like get some enimies to kill me. But there were some good things about this game, like for its time and now the world map was big with alot to explore and dungens to explore. I think Ganon was way to easy though but hey this was an 80s game so it was about what you could expect. I would recomend renting this game.
"Great game, but too expensive (Stick with you NES games)!", Before anyone suspects that I am picking on Zelda, note that I am not! After looking at Evil Lincoln's review, I do agree that charging over 20 bucks for a retro game with same graphics and gameplay is wrong. Unlike Mario Allstars for SNES, Zelda never remade any games from the NES/SNES vaults until about a few years ago, and what pissed me off is that they did it, one at a time with sky-high prices. I also heard that this and Zelda II remakes did'nt do any improvments with the graphics or effects like Link To The Past did (Four Swords) or the re-retroed NES/SNES Mario Games (e.g. All Stars, Mario Advance Series)!
I grew up on this game and its one of the best NES games ever and I can write a three page review on why. Nintendo decided to re-retro this game to give a younger target market a history lesson on how it was started (back to the old school), because they know little to nothing about the NES, meaning that they don't know how they were getting ripped off. Gamers aged 21 to about 40 who actually owned the NES in the past refused to get suckered in. Many of us still have our NES (if we don't anymore, then we can get the complete system off eBay or amazon for as low as $25). Nintendo was'nt thinking when they released this for GBA with the same graphics and gameplay as NES version. If you still have your NES, do not waste $23 on this game when you can get the original NES version for 1/3 of that on eBay and here. I know this is a Gameboy game that you can take anywhere, but wait for the price to go down to less than $10, if you want it for the GBA that bad.
"Classic game... but get it on your smartphone instead", First of all, I truly love this game! Obssessed about this game since the previews came out on the Nintendo Entertainment Club magazine (pre-nintendo power). Loved this game so much, and still rank it as one of my top games of all time. Having said all that, there is no reason to spend $30 on this game for the DS when you can download a NES emulator (smart nes is the one I use) and play it on your windows mobile 5 or 6 smartphone. Those old NES games are such tiny programs, that you can fit every NES game every released on your phone's storage card and it only takes some 50Mb maybe, if that. Works perfectly on my Samsung Blackjack, and if every bored, I can whip it out and play any of the 1,000+ NES games on my phone (and I can play for hours without significantly draining the battery life)!
"Cool game", I bought this for my nephew so am sure he loved it. He has one for the Sega system.
"bluepencils", One of my favorite NES games of all time. From the time it was originally released, it spent several years on the top 10 and top 100 favorite games. It remained on the list long after the snes was released.

"Life summed up in four words: The Legend of Zelda", For almost twenty years, The Legend of Zelda has been the world's favorite game series. No matter how many times the original title is ported to a new system, it will sell as many copies as an original game on that system.
The Classic NES Series started out in June 2004, and a second wave in February 2005. Out of that collection, there were really only two games that justified the $19.99 original price- both being Zelda games.
Nintendo changed the game a small bit, but only for the better. To prevent a few GANNON-BANs, the opening text was changed (from Engrish to English), so we now must fight Ganon, Prince of Darkness, rather than Gannon, Prince Darkness, as we did in 1987.
You can now save without dying, unlike the original game, which is a plus. The only fault I can find with the game, isn't with the game itself, but what was included with it. Originally, a map of the Hyrule overworld was included. That map isn't included with the Classic NES Series version, which makes it a bit more challenging (than it already is) to people who've never played it before.
But in the end, you have the same great game from 1987.
If you have The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition for Nintendo GameCube, this game is identical to what that disc holds.
"Nostalgia", I have loved this game since it was first released in the mid-80's. The problem, of course, is that I didn't want to have an old NES system sitting around all the time. (Not to mention all the problems which arise from using the old hardware.) Regardless, I think this re-release of the classic Zelda (as well as some of the other games in the 'Classic NES Series') is a god-send.
Overall, nothing has changed, except for some of the game's text, and a feature which allows you to save without first killing yourself. The only disappointment was the box, manual and cartridge art / design, which should have been gold, like the orignal NES version. Actually, the Japanese release featured a gold design. I don't know why Nintendo decided to change it with the US release. In the US release, the cartridge is gray, like a generic NES cartridge would be. The manual is mostly black and white, with some shades of green. (Not actually in any of the images, though.) The manual is somewhat generic, and I feel that it also lacks in detail. I suppose this is due to the release being so underpriced...
Still, it is an overall great game, which has obviously managed to live way beyond its time.
"Awesome re-release of a classic.", The Zelda series is arguably the greatest series of games of all time. Recent releases like Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past are some of the most polished and well made games in history. And it all started with this game...
The original Legend of Zelda still is a blast to play to this day. The graphics are decent, the sounds and music rock, and the gameplay and fun factor are through the roof. This game is still extremely tough and this is what gives it half of its fun. You cant just breeze through this game without some reflexes or care. Just see what happens when you try and rush through a room full of blue Darknuts. ;)
This game has spawned countless other titles over the years and was the first game that actually allowed you to save and continue your game at a later time. This game was absolutely GINORMOUS back when it came out, even though it can easily be beaten in about 3-5 hours today. Plus, picking up the Red Ring, and changing Links color, still puts a smile on my face today.
For this price, it is a crime not to pick this title up for the GBA or DS. The gameplay, fun, and challenge of one of the greatest games of all time should not be passed on by anyone.
"Lovely", The way new games are, they are so easy. You really had to have a talent to master these games. No strategy guides or crap like that. Play and learn. I know kids will not understand what I am saying, but that is alright. This is still a beautiful game that started the Zelda series. I know most people over 30 will agree with me.
"An "Old Friend" is Brought Back to Life", I can remember when I had my original Nintendo system. This was one of the first games I purchased, and I quickly became addicted to it. I managed to make it through every level except 1, and now with the Gameboy version, I will finally be able to continue my quest for that last level.
The moment I turned the game on, I could remember those times playing it on my Nintendo system. Nothing has changed from the Nintendo version to the Gameboy version. Unfortunately, I've forgotten where most everything is over the years, but I'm looking forward to playing this great game again and reliving some old memories.
The graphics on the Gameboy version are identical to the old Nintendo version. Although the graphics are not nearly as impressive as some other games, it is still a lot of fun to play the game and try to pick your way through all of the different levels and encounters.
I give this game my highest recommendation. I was glad to see that one of my "old friends" was given another chance. I know I will play this game with the same level of fun and enthusiasm that I did all those years ago on my Nintendo system. Pick up this game and feel the power of Zelda. I know you will be drawn in just as I was.
