Others say...
"2004 is better" I would give Madden 2004 5/5 while this got 4/5.
Thoughts: This game gives me the impression of not being as "in-control" as the other game. But because 2004 is "out-dates" I am glad I got this instead still, so I would still buy this over Madden 2004.
Pros (over 2004): Hit Stick (easier to use than previously thought, and fun) Graphics (Better details on non-important things - like sidelines and sky-line)
Cons: Menu (hard to navigate - I use gamepad in-game, but have to use mouse in menu... what the Heck?!?!?) Control (example: although you can assign an individual player what to do, it is harder to control team as a whole [harder but not impossible]) Minor Bugs (just various small bugs)
"It's not in the game" So, how come in Madden 2004 you can create a team and insert it into a season, but in Madden 2005, you can not? That was the one thing I liked about Madden 2004. They are suppose to progress with these games, not go backwards. Maybe the later updates will have a fix. I suggest buying Madden 2004 and bypassing this loser.
"No Force Feedback Support" Again just like in past years, Madden does not support force feedback or rumblepads. Now of all the games EA Sports makes that have these effects, wouldn't you think football would be on of them? Other than that, a great game but very similar to last year.
"A solid football game" This is a solid football game... Don't get discouraged by the negative reviews.
Game play is enjoyable. My only other experience has been with MAdden 2003 and I find this one much easier to play (I can actually win a game or two). The running game is tough, but manageable. Passing plays are straight foward with quite a bit of variety.
The fancy control pad is not necessary. I almost bought a pad with the "hit stick", as I thought it was essential after reading the package and the information on amazon. My friend has the pad and finds it adds little. I am well into the franchise mode and haven't missed it yet..
Various game types... Multiplayer, franchise mode and select matchups... The multiplayer can be played directly over the internet or through the ea sports website. Franchise mode is very cool with the ability to draft players, manage to organization, control advertising, prices etc...
If you are interested in football and have enjoyed the previous madden games, give this a try...
"Madden 2005" How do these guys do it? Every year, they come out with the new game and we all think to ourselves "How can this series become any better?" They somehow manage to come up with outstandingly realistic features and incredible graphics. I can still vividly recall when Madden 2001 came out, and that was my favorite game. Now, I can look back at it and say to myself "Wow. That game stunk." I salute you EASports and Tiburon!

What our customer's say!
"fun fun fun", I love this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went over to my friends house to play it and loved the grphics. I am not a vidoe gamer but yet I can play this and actually love it. I can't wait to get it.
"Where is the version for MAC'S?", Where is the version for MAC'S? I have a MAC not Windows PC. When are they gonna make another MAC friendly version. The last time they TRIED to was "Madden 2000 (MAC)" and that was fun - though it had tons of glitches - but they have not come out with a new MAC frindly version and that sucks!
"Good on game consol, mediocre on PC", Madden is still the best football game out there. In my opinion Madden 2005 was no improvement over Madden 2004. One of the biggest annoyances is that you cannot create a team and then play with it in Franchise mode. What fun! You create players, then they sit on your hard drive doing nothing. A major disadvantage versus the 2004 version.
Another thing, this game is only designed for game consols. When you try to use it on a PC it is half as good. Most of the new controls that would make the game interesting require some sort of game pad that the average person doesn't have. They brag about great new features, but you can't use them unless you spend another twenty bucks on a special controler.
Not a bad game, but save youre money and buy the 2004 version. You'll miss nothing
"Good, But Serious Fixable Flaws.", Ok this is the best NFL football game you can buy at this point. But EA has not shown any good inovation other then in graphics. What do they need to do to make Madden 2006 a 5 out of 5? Glad you asked.
Get a real create a playbook mode!
This is the main reason I bought this game. I love football and pro-football is nice but I also like to use classic run heavy offenses, like single wing, double wing, wing T. You simply can't make those offenses in the pathetic playbook maker that EA has created. What is a real slap in the face is that the built in playbooks have plays you can NOT create with the playbook maker. Come on, at least give us the same playbook maker that the EA staff is using!
Here are the problems with the playbook maker:
The playbook maker has a limit on the formations which are contrary to the rules. On offense they won't allow you to put more then 7 men on the LOS. The Rule is you must have at least 7 men, other then that you can put all 11 up there if you wanted too, the snap would be a problem though.
They won't let you set up with an unbalanced line or move the center position on the line, which is flat out needed for some offense.
There is no option plays in madden, even the college football game has this feature, I don't think any pro offense run the classic triple option, but i bet they run some type of option! I bet some of those play action passes you see the pros run have a run option. Can not do this in madden!
You are limited on the line to run block, pass block, pull left and right and screen left and right. You should be able to tell your linemen to down block or bypass the guy in front and pick a linebacker for trap plays, speaking of traps you cannot have your lineman trap block, they are after all in the free blocking zone, so why limit their options!
You cannot put running backs in motion, which is just stupid.
A big problem is you can not line up a back outside the tackles and have him get the ball (hand off or pitch). Never mind that reverses count on this, and wings get the ball all the time in some offenses! You can select a preexisting reverse or end around and edit it, but you still can not send your guy in motion.
You can not have a direct snap to a running back, which is also lame and prevents you from making single wing type plays, unless you happen to have Vick as your QB.
You can not make Play action passes with the editor you have to use one from a playbook then modify it which is a pain.
EA how about giving us a decent play editor, if your looking for new things to do with this football game. I would much rather have create any play you can immagine then the lame, create a fan feature.
Ok, that is problem number 1.
There are other problems.
IF you create your own team, you cannot run them in franchise mode! What a rip off, you could do this in Madden 2004. A step backward.
You should beable to change the positions of your guys anyway you like, If i want to put vick on defense I should beable to do that, If i want to put brady on the O-line I should be able to do that, If want to make a DT a FB I should be able to do that! Why limit us!
The commintary gets old quick and is sometimes just flat wrong! Like if you run off tackle and do not even get touched by a defender madden will say something like, "He got in behind those big offensive lineman and put his shoulder down for the extra yardage." Which really doesn't describe what happened. I expected bad commentary because all sports games have repetitive commentary, so that is not a big knock against this game. You can turn commentary off, but you should also be able to set it to minimum commentary where they comment every once and a while but are usually silent. I would be happier with a sports radio type commentary, "Dillon with the carry, 4 yard gain on the play" or "Ball caught by number 33 faulk, for an 11 yard gain" That type of stuff.
A good football game, but I have the feeling that EA is holding back on obvious things so they can add improvements slowly and milk us for more money Year after Year.
Do I have to wait until madden 2009 before I get the awesome new create a playbook freature that actually lets you create a good playbook! EA wake up, people will buy the new game because of the upadated rosters and stats. Do not let another company come in and steal your thunder with a really good leap forward football game!
"This is a great game", Madden NFL has bested all previous games the graphics are so increadible you can see the glint of stadium lights on the players helmets. The franchise element of the game has been brought to a whole new level with the new NFL draft is the best I've ever seen. This the BEST NFL game I have ever played.

"WHY NOT FOR MAC!", this game is okay, but I mean instead of playing it at my friends house, I mean can`t I play it at mine, anyway I dont think its even close to being as good as madden 2004. Dont get this game!
"Still an awesome game", Madden 2005 continues to be the best Football game around (albeit the only one for PC). The game is very similar to the last year's...the rosters are updated and there are a few new features and tweaks to the A.I. If you don't care about these, you could always get 2004 for 10 bucks. Either way, this game rocks on the PC. It is MUCH better on the PC than any of the consoles. If you play the PC version and then play on PlayStation, you will think the PS2 is stuck in slow motion or something. And of course the graphics are tons better on the PC. I run with 4x AA w/ my Radeon 9800 and it looks awesome.
People reviewing the PC version seem WAY more critical than the typical console reviewer. I don't understand why people complain about this game so much. The fact is that Madden 2004/2005 is the best football game for ANY platform. Just read the Net reviews for PS2 or XBOX...everybody loves it. And I am here to tell you that the game is even BETTER on the PC.
If you are not sure, buy 2004 for 10 bucks. But then you will be hooked and want 2005...
"Isn't the next installment supposed to be an IMPROVEMENT? ", What a HUGE disappointment this game has turned out to be, mainly for the absolutely INSANE decision to no longer allow players to play a custom team in franchise mode. Absolutely pathetic.
What's worse is that there was absolutely no mention of this feature being dropped anywhere. I spent HOURS creating a homemade team, coming up with logos, etc., looking forward to playing it through many franchise years. Suddenly, I can't figure out how to import it into the game. After tons of searching through EA's inept site, I find out....surprise....they CUT that feature this year!!!
THis was by far my favorite feature. You also can no longer hurdle, a move that truly helped the running game. I haven't even bothered to play in franchise mode at this point, as I'm so peeved that I can't play my own team. The new "Hit stick" thing is good, and there are some nice additions to defensive adjustments if you have the right controller.
But the EA site, their total silence on this matter of lack of custom team in Franchise mode and the way they obviously view the PC audience as an afterthought make me ready for something else, and I don't know if I'll ever give EA my money again. They seem to have zero consideration for the people who've been loyal to them and supported them in the past. As usual, it's all about the money, nothing more.
This version of Madden, overall, is a step backwards.
"Meh", Keep in mind if you want to use the new "hit stick" and several other new features you need to drop another $20 on a game controller, since these options aren't available on the keyboard.
Otherwise, the game is pretty much the same, even missing a couple features -- You can no longer play as a created team in Franchise mode.
You also receive messages when playing in franchise mode telling you to select team captains from the Team Roster screen. Unfortunantly if you hunt around on the EA support website, you will discover that there is in fact no way to access the Team Roster screen or appoint team captains.
"A big dissapointment!", I was really dissapointed with Madden 2005. I am still playing the 2003 version which was one of the best. 2004 was good too, but it had major bugs which I wont get into here that made me stop playing it. Anyway 2005 has MANY issues, first off are the annoying radio station you are forced to here when you enter Francise mode. It's fine if you like it, but there is no off button. I am forced to hear it everytime weather I like it or not. #2 how tacky are the injuries still? Everytime a player is injured he gets up wither limping or holding his arm, etc. it doesnt matter how serious the injury is, in every case the guy gets up and walks off. What about realism? And these new fan created animations. How stupid looking are those? And again, it's fine if you like them but you are forced to see them everytime the home team scores or the opponent scores on the road. A row of 4 stupid looking fans, with the same shirts and props, and rediclous hats. It annoys me to death and you cant turn it off. Also when an apponent team scores a touchdown, the player falls straight back on his back (and this is repeated again and again). How unrealistic again, or he throws the ball down. There are limited realistic reactions when a player scores. These same two are repeated over and over. And when your quarterback scrambles in the rush, no longer can he scrable or run out of pressure. He is sacked everytime. Also Maddens commentaries in regard to turnovers, they say again and again when you commit a turnover what a bad way to start your game with a turnover, even if it's the 3rd or 4th quarter. And what the other reviewer said about maddens same generic comments, I go along with completley. If Madden isnt going to take the time to match his partner with fresh comments, why not just take ALL the madden comments from every Madden game and roll them all into one. Then you would have a much greater variety then saying the same ones over and over. i thought how embarrased would Madden feel if they ever played a joke on him and used his computer commentary in a real NFL game and fans heard the same comments again and again and again. That gives you the idea of how far off Madden is from realism. Not just mentioning the commentary this year, but all the other things put together. For the good points, the gameplay is still excellent. Wish i could play it without all the other bugs. The defensive play is awesome, with the bigger hits, etc. But they did a very poor job of putting together a whole Sim with true realism. When you play a game like this, your supposed to be able to use your imagination and get lost for a while (and seem like it's all the real thing). For me with 2005, thats impossible. Better luck next year?
