"Men of Valor Made My Top 5 Worst Game List", Wow. Paid about $8 for this and even that small amount wasn't worth it. Out of the 80 or so FPS games I've played, Men of Valor is one of the worst. I have to go way back to IGI2 before I find a game this bad.

First the good. The music is fine.

Now the bad.

Graphics: When I first popped this in my rig, I thought I had a defective disc. The graphics were awful. I went to the video options and turned everything up to maximum. No difference. I thought I went back to the late 1990s. It reminded me of the first Turok game. I was stunned that this was a 2004 effort.

Character models are laughably bad and wooden and they GLIDE across the ground as if the whole environment is made out of ice. It reminded me of my little plastic soldiers I used to play with when I was a child. I just pushed them across the ground.

Story and Characters: The Vietnam story is compelling and the various cut scenes with footage which gives a mini-history lesson on the war is okay. But the actual missions in the game are forgetful. The effort to try to connect with Shepherd, the main character, via letters home really doesn't work. In fact, I usually cut those off because they became boring very quickly.

Movement: Moving is really awful. You get stuck on just about everything - rocks, logs, limbs, boxes, bodies. Nothing is moveable. Every level is narrowly encased in an invisible barrier. You think you can take a path to flank hostiles only to bump into an invisible wall which blocks that path. Only one narrow and lineal pre-determined path is allowed and scripted. You can't jump. Even the smallest of logs you're locked behind. This is one of the poorest games I've played for trying to traverse the terrain.

Gameplay: Awful. This is really bad, folks. The whole game is about 12-14 hours. However, at least HALF of that time is replaying the same thing over and over. Save points are far apart and, often, you will tediously and slowly make your way up a path or river, systematically eliminating the hostiles along the way, only to find yourself ambushed (which, by the way, is scripted in there toward the end of every objective) and you die (very quickly). When you respawn, you're ALL THE WAY back at the beginning of the objective -- which sometimes were as far back as 20 minutes of gameplay. If you try to go any faster the second try, you'll die, so you have to go slowly and systematically through the same routine all over again. When you get at the hard section, you at least know what to expect and you can plan for a counter-attack. Sometimes, however, you're not successful on the second try and back you go for another 15 minutes re-do. It became OLD very quickly. I think the worst one took me about six tries to finally make it though at about 10 minutes per try. So, it took over an hour of playing to work my way through a 10 minute section.

Having a challenging objective is one thing. But to have a boring tedious re-doing of 20 minutes of work over and over with objective after objective is absolutely ridiculous. The result was a game that just wasn't fun. In fact it was painfully frustrating and boring. I think the developers wanted to make a game that evoked the "reality" of the Vietnam War. But the result was a game that wasn't fun to play.

Overall: 2 out of 5. Men of Valor makes my top 5 worst FPS games of all time


"Beware, does not work on all systems", I bought this game, only to find out that it would not work on our PC. If you do not have a T&L vidoe card, it will not run. BE SURE YOUR VIDEO CARD IS A T&L BEFORE YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!

"very goofy DUM AI ....makes killing them enjoying ", i really like the yelling in vietcong.....funny stuff gets boring not very hard to beat....i stop playing after i beat 6 levels nothing interesting in this title.

"Men of valor needs more attention", i played the game Men of valor to the end, and since i am a fan of the genre, i have played also vietcong, conflict vietnam, shell shock nam '67, line of sight, and the newest vietcong 2. Yet i must say that though it is not perfect Men of valor got me deep into the vietnam feeling whereas the others failed to do so. Why? because of the historic accuracy and atmosphere. The very first level puts you right there on top of a M113 apc in a authentic environment. You get your first contact and then you are chasing vc for the very first time. Exiting start. With an M14 which makes a good sound but a little weak. Like a rifle on a fancy fair. The M16 and CAR15 sound good, the SKS also sounds too weak. I would like to change these sounds if i knew how. The pistols when fired have a heavy recoil, they move as a whole backwards i would rather like to see the slide moving. Furthermore, i got irritated by the clumsy teammates whom you cannot shoot; when you try a red cross appears on them. No friendly fire possible. I would have liked to see the characters of the white soldiers be more authentic too, especially the guy with the M60 looks like a bodybuilder from a comic strip. They also move in a strange way. I especially liked the different scenery and landscapes. And the destroyed city of Hue is magnificent with beautiful colors. This level "recapturing the citadel" with Captain van Bao represents the right vietnam-urban-fights-atmosphere unmatched by any of the vietnam shooters so far. Top-art. Vietcong 2 has tried to picture these historic themes of Hue and Saigon too but failed to create any real vietnam feeling, it just looks too artifical. Men of valor did succeed in this because they where careful to pay attention to the things that makes a war look authentic. The smoke, the dried grass, the junk, the demolished buildings, the bricks, the burning cars, it is a real city at war. In Men of valor, when you approach the Administration building behind your tank in the dust you can almost smell the diesel smoke, the dried grass, and the car wrecks. Every shot you fire is a real one, doing damage somewhere.The explosions are very realistic and make your vision "tremble" in a way i never saw in any other game. If i could get the right mods and tools for Men of valor i would appreciate it as the very best Vietnam shooter so far.

"I can't play it.", If this is a good game I'll never know.

I bought it, installed it, clicked 'New game' and kicked me to the desktop.

I tried a dozen times before giving up. To heck with this.

"This game had promise", The only games I play are historical type games... and this game is pretty historical, its just not to much fun to play. It's like something I would expect from an old play station game.

They really tried to make you feel like you were in Vietnam, so they kept making the enemy respawn I guess to simulate endless waves... but that to me should be in a Korean War game instead of a Vietnam game (maybe on missions like Tet and Kahe Sahn), and they would always come from the same spot in certain areas. All you have to do is clear the initial area and just wait for the respawned man to show up in the same spot over and over again.

The AI is retarded, they just jump out into the open and just move around a bit, but their is no real strategy. The game is heavily scripted and your teammates won't die until they get to certain areas where they are scripted to die. I once had a guy get hit by a few hundred machine gun rounds and an RPG... he sat on the ground asking for a medevac... then 10 seconds later he got up and said he was ok like nothing happened. Speaking of teammates, they are also retarded. They jump into your way and they get caught between trees and can't move. I had to restart a level when I reached the end because one of my men got caught between two rocks.

I also played the demo before getting this game, and I thought it looked great, but what you see in the demo is pretty much what you get. There is nothing else that is special about this game as far as the demo goes.

However, if you are like me and you love the stories that come out of games pick this game up anyway. Just buy it used, because the storyline is the only thing worth playing this game for. Some missions are ridiculously hard because your teammates can't hit anything, but the missions aren't unbeatable.

If you are looking for a great shooter, this isn't it. If you love history or are a Vietnam War buff, then this game might be for you. Most of the games out there on Vietnam suck, but the story line in this game seems to make up for its other shortcomings. To really like this game you have to not care about graphics and stuff like that. The AI is stupid, your teammates are stupid, the fact that no strategy is involved (other then fire and move) is stupid. Just appreciate this game for what it is... A nice story.

And on another note... if you are a parent you need to understand that a lot of the games out there are not for children. Computer games may have started out for children but they have evolved. A game like this is for adults or mature teenagers if there are any. So if your going to bash a game bash it for its shortcomings not its language or violence. You can't watch, or play, or read anything on Vietnam and expect it to be 100% clean.


"A realistic -- but fun -- shooter", While I was never in Vietnam, I was in the military in 1976; and this has the feeling of one of the more realistic Vietnam War era games out there. But there is also a large fun factor in this shooter too (along with being able to use some interesting weapons taken off dead enemies).


"good animation", I will say this game is more of an animated vietnam movie,its heavily scripted.at certain points yo lose control and the little scenes play out and you cant shoot or move, very iritating.For some reason some of the trees and bots will turn totaly white like a siloette.that could be a video card issue but I understand other people have had this problem.The voilence is good,I realy enjoyed the viet cong women.very intense battle situations but unfortunately this actualy gets old after awhile.I also noticed right off as a military buff and historian,a few mistakes.These guys are marines right ?well they are wearing Army issue flack vests instead of the marine ones and the snipers have M-21's with the ART scope,well thats an Army weopon.Marines usualy used a Bolt action 30.06 REM or something similiar in those days.This is not acurate at all sorry.The playability is decent but not up to par with MEDAL OF HONOR ALLIED ASSAULT.
