"Works as advertised", I bought an older version (2.1), but customer support was very helpful and upgraded for free to version 4.0, which has nice graphics and more features including matrix and log functions. You can solve or simplify step-by-step. Check the company website for the latest version.

"Expensive and Useless", I bought this program for my daughter to use for assistance in her Algebra 1 and 2 classes in highschool. Not only is the program expensive, but it is very limited in what it can do. It does not come with a users guide, either, leaving you to use the hit and miss method of figuring out how to use it. She was in advanced classes and it was virtually useless for her. Eventually, the program stopped working, as well. I consistently get error messages when trying to load it. This is a real waste of money. I don't recommend it. If I could give it 0 stars, I would.

"Algebrator, if your in high school or reviewing basic algebra...", Algebrator, if you are in high school or reviewing basic algebra this would be great. If I had bought this while I was in "pre-algebra" in college I would have loved it. This software covers combining like terms, basic factoring and lots of stuff that someone in high school or someone reviewing basic algebra concepts would find helpfull.

However, I bought this title for help with my college level algebra course and was very disapointed in the lack of explanations in the simplification of expressions. It was basically useless for anything other than the 5x + 3y = 8 or the 2X^2 + 5x -10 = 0 type of problems. If this is what you need buy it.

If not, try the Standard Deviants videos or DVDs they have every level of math to get started and they are easy to use and entertaining. In fact you could get 3 complete sets of their videos for the price of this software and have a much better understanding of Basic Math, Algebra and beyond.

I give Algebrator 3 stars because although there is much better sofware out there (Texas Instruments Derive is the best, and yes it gives step by step answers from any type of Alg, Trig, Calc homework) this would be great for someone just starting out with math software and algebra. I just wish they did not advertise that it helps with college level algebra, it doesn't!

"Algebrator software", This is a really useful piece of software. Unlike other math programs I have used, you can type in the problem straight from the book - the software gives you all the steps. Unfortunatly it doesn't do functions and logarithms, but other than that it is perfect for pre college and large part of a college algebra course. Definitely helped me pass my algebra!
