This card worked out of the box on my laptop running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) Ubuntu 7.10 (PC Edition).

It was recognized as:
Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC [168c:001a] (rev 01)
Subsystem: D-Link System Inc AirPlus G DWL-G630 [1186:3b08]

Have not any issues for two weeks (in contrast to the acx100-based card I had before).

"Great for older lap-tops"
I purchased this for my mother's older Dell Latitude laptop (only 8G's on the drive, with less than 1GHz cpu!) I needed these spec's and the 'g' type for her older laptop, newer home network & desktop, and something that she didn't have to configure or worry about, as she's barely computer literate (she's in her 60's.)

This product was a breeze to install, and once you've adjusted your internet connections settings, connecting to any available (free) wireless source can be automatic. Yes, I did have to enter her wireless home network key (luckily, she keeps everything neatly filed away, so have that handy when you are running the initial set-up; otherwise, you'll only be able to connect to unlocked public networks.)

The software is very intuitive and simple to use; just install the software first, turn off the computer, plug the card in, restart, and type in your network key (for secure home networks) and you're done.

I would recommend this card for any similar applications involving older computers using lower processing speeds. If you're running a newer, faster lap-top, then go with a faster card of course.

Also, the card was delivered in an expedient amount of time in perfect condition.

"Good Value"
Recently I installed D Link DWL-G630 54Mbps wireless card in my HP Pavilion Notebook with Windows 2000 Professional. After installing the driver included on the CD supplied, the card worked but upon second bootup the driver failed to initialize and also failed at each bootup thereafter. The problem was easily solved by downloading the latest driver from DLink website. Now it works well and provides reasonably fast wireless internet connection. Best of all, at less than $10 plus shipping, it is a bargain!

"good hardware, crappy software"
Bought this card because the onboard Wireless-B on my old Thinkpad was starting to become unreliable. After reading the numerous warnings about the terrible driver support for this card, I was quite careful when installing it. Some things I did that helped:

(1) Disable the existing wireless card. They both use IRQ 11, so there was a chance they would interfere with each other.

(2) After installing the 3.05 drivers I downloaded from D-Link (the drivers on the provided CD are version 3.01) I immediately uninstalled the D-Link Wireless software (not the actual driver part) and let Windows manage the connections. Vendor written wireless management software almost always conflicts with Windows. I had the same issue with the IBM software that came with the integrated adapter on my laptop.

After a few reboots, my card was up and running smoothly. It's faster, but more importantly, it finds my home network immediately without me having to search for it or repair my connection.

I'm amazed that after 4 years, my old Thinkpad R50 is still usable. At this rate, the LCD is going to have to die before I replace it...
