Others say...
"Great I/F for the money..." This card works great with the Netgear gig-e switch I bought at the same time... with the rebate a darned good deal.
"Good product" Installed drivers and it worked ok on win2k and winxp computers. network speed significantly increased.
"Doesn't come with low profile bracket for your Dell Optiplex" Enough said - Netgear can't add 5 cents to the their cost to provide a low profile bracket? Every other major 10/100/1000 brand includes it.
"Bought 3, works in linux" Upgraded my home file/web setup to GigE with three of these and an accompanying Netgear router. Works without any hitches. Linux support is great. Just load r8169.
"Poor Driver Support" I purchased this device for my Windows 2003 Home server in January 2007. I did not notice that the box says supported systems were Win XP, 2000, Me, 98SE, NT4.0. Rarely do consumer level goods list Win Server 2000 or 2003 as options. In all cases, drivers for these other OS can be found on the vendor's web site. Not the case with Netgear.
I installed the card and proceeded to load the drivers (from CD). The CD said it required XP, etc, so I went to the vendor's web site to obtain the most current ones. The most recent driver for WINXP was from 2003! I was not able to use the dreivers form the vendor's web site, but another comment here about Netgear using RealTEK chipsets sent me on the right path. I was able to install the drivers for the RealTEK Gigabit adapter w/o issue.
I've sworn off D-Link due to multiple issues with rebates that they have refused to pay. I'm now adding in Netgear to the list due to poor driver support. For me, it's Linksys only. Why mess with others when you can have Cicso (owner of Linksys) in your corner.

What our customer's say!
"no driver support for Windows Server 2003", I purchased two of these NICs; one for a Windows 2003 Server and the other for a Vista workstation. Although there's support for Vista, there is no driver support for Windows 2003 Server. Sometimes Windows 2000 drivers work on Windows 2003 Server, but I opted not to make a testing activity out of my purchase. I've since checked the Microsoft HCL; returned the Netgear GA311 and purchased a NIC that's on the list from Amazon. RMA process with Amazon was very easy.
"Excellent Product", This was a snap to install and get going. It is lightning fast and was well worth the small investment.
"Perfect match for Linux", I picked this up after having some trouble with a few other network cards, while trying to get both kgdb support in Linux, and gigabit ethernet networking at the same time.
This card works perfectly with Linux, at least for the Redhat-based distros I've been dealing with lately. If you're compiling your network drivers into the kernel (not as kernel modules), for kernel 2.6.18 and later, just choose "Realtek 8169 gigabit ethernet support" in the kernel configuration and it will work.
"very good product", i bought it with the gigait edition router, the setup was pretty painless and it works great.
"Wont get 1000 Mbps with a PCI card", Dont expect to get 1000 Mbps out of any PCI card, unless you have PCI express. But I clocked FTP transfer speeds at 380 Mbps.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Does not work with Windows 2003 Server", This product does not work with Windows 2003 Server, and it doesn't call that out on the box. This is 3 or 4 years after 2003's release and they need to indicate it on the box or customers like me will bring it home and it won't work.
"Supported by Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger & Tiger Server", Besides being available at an excellent price, the Netgear GA311 Gigabit Ethernet card is supported natively by Mac OS X 10.4 and later and by Mac OS X Server 10.4 and later.
Even though the product mentions no support for either OS, the card will work without the need for any third party driver.

"There are other limitations to worry about aside from PCI", I rated it 3 stars because it does what it is supposed to do in windows. Also, Kriston was not entirely correct is his review... a PCI bus at 33MHz can transfer 133MBps (that's megabytes per second), which is yes, best case scenario. To get Mbps (megabits per second) you multiply that by eight... giving you just over 1Gbps (gigabit, not gigabyte). It real life, you won't get that much throughput, but probably not entirely because of shared bus I/O. Most hard disks cannot transfer 1Gbps sustained, which is 125MBps...(megabytes). In my experience with this card running in PCI mode, I can transfer as fast as my disk can output. PCI Xpress is better, but you'll need solid state memory to transfer that fast.
"Low performance on Linux", First I must mention that the package or manual does not say this card supports Linux, but it's using Realtek 8169 chipset which driver 'r8169' is already in kernel 2.4 or 2.6, I downloaded the latest 'r1000' and still couldn't get anything higher than 80Mbps under kernel 2.4.20. Some users reported on newsgroup for this known performance issue on Linux, and one was able to crank it up to 240Mbps running a 3.2GHz AMD system. Since this card is not meant to support Linux and I haven't tried it on Windows I would give it a 2 stars to be fair.
"PCI Gigabit cards aren't going to be Gigabit speed on the PCI bus", The PCI bus does not have the bandwidth to get you Gigabit speed. You will be very lucky if you can get 300 megabit speeds on a PCI gigabit card, even with jumbo frames.
Your motherboard has two PCI busses, and sometimes has three. Depending on the chipset and the manufacturer, the internal devices like the keyboard/mouse/floppy, internal network, USB, Firewire, and more, will be on one bus or the other bus and often both busses. You will have to run SiSoft Sandra or pcitweak to figure out which of the devices are on which bus and experiment with which slot to plug this card into so the card can get all the PCI bandwidth it can get, but that will not be close to gigabit speed, either. Best case on 33 MHz PCI is 300 megabit.
Even if you can find which PCI bus has the fewest bandwidth-consuming devices on it, the 33 MHz PCI busses in all consumer PCs cannot handle the bandwidth of this (or any) gigabit card, anyway. If you want true gigabit speed get a motherboard that has built-in gigabit or get a motherboard with 66 MHz PCI, PCI-X (not PCI Express), 64-bit PCI, or similar, but you're going to pay lots of money for that.
Worse yet that built-in Gigabit interface might still be on a 33 MHz PCI bus and always sharing bandwith, giving you less than 300 megabit speed. It probably shares with other devices so you have to do your homework.
